Well, there was certainly no bursting dam... And a few days prior (about a week before, I think), Toowoomba, a town well north of Brisbane, was hit by what's been called an inland tidal wave (which is made worse by the fact Toowoomba is at the top of a mountain and probably shouldn't have flooded in the first place - no dams I'm aware of above it).
It was raining here in Brisbane for 2 months with barely a break. In the end, the ground was so saturated it didn't soak in,>
Oh, whoops, forgot to mention. Part of Brisbane's issues was in fact the dam. More water was coming in than it could cope with (so it was said), and so more water was released in the days leading up to Brisbane flooding and during the flood. That is currently the topic of an inquiry into the disaster, along with dam management (bloody politicians - need someone to pin the blame on. I think they did as well as they could).
If the truth of what happened is any different from what we saw, we sit and wait for the answers. As simple as that. I *do* believe the dam might have been managed better, I believe more water could have been released much sooner, and less later. Hell, I saw Brisbane flooding when Toowoomba did - all that water had to go somewhere.
But for a conspiracy? Naw. I don't even see the potential for one here. I personally think they handled>
it pretty well. Had the dam not been there, like it wasn't during the 1974 floods, it might have been very different. But it was, and some of the water was mitigated.
(For the record, I live about 10 mins. by car from the CBD, I was high and dry - I had to go for a walk to see the flood! :D)
this cant be all natural! could it??

An amazing series of events.
An even more amazing human response.
May the victims who left us forever rest in peace, and may the survivors who bore so much loss forever live strong.
May we always be there for one another, as we were during this event.
Lots of love to all.
- Rachael.
