Egypt is not this perfect lovely place full of romantic open people where everyone gets along with eachother like this movie portrays. There is alot of poverty, violence and religious tension. I have been there 4 times for work.
Egyptians can barely tollerate their 9 million Christians, let alone western tourists

Its soo annoying that this image has got stuck in the western minds and covered the real picture, now alot of them don't know that Downtown in cairo actually has neighborhoods that look like ones in France and london, or that Heliopolis is a place of luxury or that Shobra has become so classy. Sexual harassment is a huge problem in Egypt that a lot of people are in DENIAL about. It doesn't matter what you wear (hijab or not) and many men seem to think women bring it upon themselves. and yeah, some older western women do come to tourist areas in Egypt to get their groove back believing some 20something is dying of love for them...until they get the visa and money. :) There are lots of respectable Egyptians but they get overshadowed by the oversexed trashy guys that harass.

I studied abroad in Cairo in 2009 and yes I saw guys staring at foreign women all the time, to the point that some of my fellow female students explained that they were glad that their semester abroad was coming to a close and they were going back to America, because they were getting tired of the harassment.

Finally a movie that doesn't portray egypt as a place where all ppl live in tents and ride camels. Its soo annoying that this image has got stuck in the western minds and covered the real picture, now alot of them don't know that Downtown in cairo actually has neighborhoods that look like ones in France and london, or that Heliopolis is a place of luxury or that Shobra has become so classy. Yes we do have poor ppl, but not all of us wear galabeya's and live in deserts!!!

I must say that I haven't seen this kind of movie for a long time. It was great filmed and this great acting insures the quality of the movie and makes the movie more colorful. I watched this film on kookicá. I really enjoyed watching, it is a powerful and very moving storyline, it looks real, so spontaneous and funny. For me, it is based on the great plot I think it truly deserves Oscar and it caught me in it at the begining, I cried. See this without waiting any more.

Sexual harassment is a huge problem in Egypt that a lot of people are in DENIAL about. It doesn't matter what you wear (hijab or not) and many men seem to think women bring it upon themselves. and yeah, some older western women do come to tourist areas in Egypt to get their groove back believing some 20something is dying of love for them...until they get the visa and money. :) There are lots of respectable Egyptians but they get overshadowed by the oversexed trashy guys that harass.

@IslamicState3 this is the problem with masr: ppl who say they are good muslims, but then when they see a girl they harass her n shit. in egypt, its like you have to pretend ur muslim, even if you dont believe, because of assholes like you who want an islamic state. if egypt EVER became an islamic state, it would be 10000x worse than it is now. i love islam, and i respect it, but Egypt is not the place for a religious government. Egyptians just like to do whatever they want, it would never work!

@IslamicState3 i think we can all agree that egypt kicks ass, it hasnt changed in 5000 years and it wont change in the next 1000. the good parts will always be there (inshallah) and the shitty parts will always be there. but for anyone who knows egypt, they know that unfortunately, you see many, many more of the bad parts than the good, these days.

I studied abroad in Cairo in 2009 and yes I saw guys staring at foreign women all the time, to the point that some of my fellow female students explained that they were glad that their semester abroad was coming to a close and they were going back to America, because they were getting tired of the harassment.
Ignore the mushkela and it won't go away.
Egypt is VERY safe and it's just gawking and calling out to women across the street, nothing physical, but it's still unacceptable behavior.
