Hi, thanks for the video - really answered a lot of my questions. I also need to figure out how to chain the patterns together, and have them run at the same tempo. I just got my 808, and it seems that every beat has it's own different tempo. Any ideas how to fix this?
While you in First Part / Pattern Write mode you can switch between 4 time-modes / pre-scales. press the small red button while setting the vertical pre-scale switch. This will change the tempo
if i gave you a song with the 808 could you possibly tell me which numbers the congas were on? duo had an 808 drum machine with these congas beat but i could never figur out were the placed them in the song
@nvanzoeren Dat noemt men spreektaal.
En goed naar me channel gekeken man. Maar volgens mij hadden we het over jou.
I think a better question would be, how to raise money for a roland tr-808 :p 2nd hand price on ebay are stupid right now! no wonder people go for software/hardware emulations
what is the correct way to eq 808 drums? just cut highs on the bd and cut lows on everything else? or is there another secret? I want the snap i hear on records but the 808 sounds very raw and dull on its own

Gotta be kidding right?????? Everyone can easily program a beat, some of my friends are not even musicians at all and they were able to program something dynamic its just a logical question, if you cant program this, it means you cant even do 2 + 2 = 4, dammit
You are the king man, i mean, seriously, you are so damn smart. I guess your brain is going to leave our orbit any minute. So please let me say thank you before i cant reach you anymore.
Very nice. Your English is fine, by the way. I can learn from this type of video- it's very straight forward, enough information to play with and figure it out on my own. Awesome.
DINSYNC and MIDI are 2 different things. Both of them can send a CLOCK signal. If you want to sync the 808 to a MIDI-CLOCK you will need a MIDI-to-DINSYNC-converter. But the DJM800 doesnt has MIDI nor DINSYNC :D But you can use the MIX-out of the 808 and route it to a audio-input on the DJM800 However, the 808 is MONO, so maybe its a good idea to route it through the microfoon-input on the DJM800. You have to sync them by the ear, which shouldnt be a problem for a DJ, which i'm not :)
Dude...awesome fuckin movie...SUPER helpful.....one curious thing is why u chose a 64 step beat over a 16 step beat? by the way...i know a guy here in nyc who is an expert at repairing old roland vintage equipment..it's what he does for a living. I had the same issue with a sticky start/stop button..he fixed it and also cleaned the pots and changed the batteries. If you want to make more 808 vidoes i will watch them!!!! I love the 808!
Its not that i prefer a 64step beat above a 16step. Some times i like to make a 35 step beat :D
I just try to show the way how to gett longer patterns then 32 steps. Which i thought was the lmit for a while. Until i figured out 2nd Part and that is what im demostrating :)
U have some problem with start/stop button dont Ya? or its typical? besides 808 its a rare equipment :> ... and trust me your english its more enough than U think :> im polish trust me :D
you English is fucking shite, as is the sound quality

awesome tutorial!!! well explained and straight to the point..thank you!!!
.. just to note that the feel of the sequence is totally different when in INT or EXT sync.. EXT is just mechanical.. you loose the feel

If your start/stop button or tap button is playing up you can connect switches to the jacks at the back.

To think that when I bought my TR-707, I had the choice of a TR-808 and a TR-909!
I went with the TR-707 because it had all digital sounds, a groovy LCD display and MIDI. How I regret not getting the 909 or the 808!!!

yeahhhhh, but a 64 beat is way more challenging.
and you also seem to be missing the whole point of this drum machine. Its simple in comparison to a real drum kit.Its not trying to be a real drummer.

Can you use that in a software? I mean, use the content on cubase sx for exemple playing all with a midi keyboard? But link that directly to the pc?

CHECK OUT: Nepheton
it's a virtual software TR-808, looks like the real thing and has all the knobs and step sequencer. It's a VST plugin also has individual outs.
