I think singing this song in TTBB gives it a quality that just blows the SATB arrangement out of the water. But I do like them both, just prefer the TTBB arrangement.
This is just okay in my opinion. Their blend could use some work, their vowels could use a LOT of work, their dynamics, INFINITE work. Chimataki: Those lines are supposed to be sung pianissimo, it's the choir not the song. Then again, they're a glee club, not a chamber choir. That said, they did faithfully sing the notes without pitch problems.
I sang this at the Kennedy Center with 400 other voices it was amazing! This song gives me chills everytime I hear it. My favorite phrase is "Homeland the country that I love hold out your arms to me" ugh bring tears to my eyes!!!!
The lines 'Though the road has bends and turns, and my spirit suffers. Humans fail, systems fail, shadows fall.' are the most pessimistic lines in the song... One would think that they should be quieter with a darker sound.
Ok, we are singing this song for my choir and I wanted to know if anyone elts thinks that it sounds like a comunist song. True, it is good, but all "The love that never questions" stuff and "Forever rain supreme". It just kinda sounds like that to me... what do you think?
No I disagree. The phrase "the love that asks no questions" means that the love for the country is so strong and you feel so loyal that you never ask a question and never doubt that devotion. "Forever rain supreme" may mean that our country, or the love for the country, will always remain best and most cherished. I think there's no need to turn it into something negative...
I did that piece three hours before I posted my last comment. Yes, I did sing that, and I'd admit that the middle section ("thought he roads have bands and trun/ and my spirit suffers/ Humans fail, system fail, shadow fall..." etc) is not the most ordinary stuff one would expect. But compare to most other stuff one would see, that is a very straightforward piece.
@cooldude2648 Agreed. It may be 'simple' if you want the song to sound okay. If you want it to be beautiful, moving, and almost haunting it is very difficult. Easy lyrics/notes to learn, but it's usually the technical stuff that makes or breaks a song. Non-Musicians just have trouble seeing the small stuff sometimes.
I just did this with the Indiana State University Concert choir and several other choirs this past Summer in Lucerne, Switzerland. It was SO gorgeous singing the text with several hundred other people that I didn't know. What a moving peice!
Our choir is doing this SATB this year..and its BEAUTIFUL. The only thing I saw wrong with this one is that their vowels weren't so great. They said "thuh" alot instead of "the"..like..lol..its hard to explain in text haha. Choir people will get it. But it was pretty good :) Alot better than our men's chorus :)
WOW. that was really... REALLY good. goosebumps. but the only thing i have to say (and it's only cause i'm a perfectionist) is the one red tie in the front row while all the other one's are black. but other than that, amazing
I remember when I performed this at Mansfield University with their mens choir. Although along with the piano we had a full brass ensemble and percussian. Not what you would expect from a 14 year old.
I just had one problem at the begining, the choir kept moving. As in shuffling, hand fixing hair. Also it could be a bit more legato at the part where they sing, "though the road has bends and turns..." and the vowels could be a bit more pure. Loved the final chord. =]
I wanted to like it, I really did. And for the most part it was nice. But the vowels ruin it. Open up, men!

I absolutely disagree that the parts in this are 'easy'. The harmonies and partwork is simply stunning, but quite hardwork to get perfect.

this song is most definitely definitely not simple. Its beautiful, but definitely not simple.
escapingthemadness17 3 years ago
It is actually a fairly simple peice but you have to have the right voices. I don't think the music is too difficult at all really...
