@Agent1W In answer to this, many of my Pagan ancestors rejected Christianity and were slaughtered and tortured for it. There are Norse sagas that tell of people, even children, who were tortured to death for refusing to become Christian.

And Jesus most certainly was not killed for his religious beliefs. Crucifixion was the most brutal punishment the Romans had, and was reserved for slaves, pirates and rebels. Logically, the historical Jesus (not your myth) was probably executed for rebelling against Rome.
@rigstula you blame us when it was the Romans who raped and desecrated everyone. They instituted a religion of their own and continued on, a religion not associated with us: the Roman Catholic Church. Indeed, all those acts were done by the Catholics of old.
The Jews strong-armed the Roman procurator into taking action dealing with Jesus. Pilate didn't find Jesus guilty of anything, but naturally he was afraid of the risk of open revolt. Released a different prisoner on Passover instead.

It would now probably be a mere historic curiosity. All Christianity today is the legacy of this, like it or not.
Concerning Jesus, considering his harsh, very Roman punishment and the fact that the Jews did not execute him under their own laws, I think it's far more likely he did something to anger Rome.

@rigstula the early Church grew and expanded from Jerusalem to Rome, but that was pretty much snuffed out by the rise of the Catholics and Orthodoxes. Protestants were still in error of the Scriptures, despite their reformation attempts.
The early Church was not without internal problems; Gnosticism being the first major one. There were still Christians out there who faithfully obeyed the Scriptures in spirit and truth. Regretfully, things got out of hand. :(

Indeed, Nero's persecution of them was despicabe, especially considering how Rome at this time had a history of being relatively tolerant of foreign religions. Romans actually did persecute Christains, whom they saw as a sect from Judiasm, a religion that revolted against them before. In fact, the Emperor Dometian persecuted the most Christains. Everyone remembers Nero because he makes a very good villain.

Uhm...I cannot do anything if that's your decision but i would like to give you this Verse in the Bible. I say about how God love you so much that his willing to sacrifice everything just to save you. @rigstula Uhm...Mr. Brain hasn't departed yet...hehehe. That's why I'm doing this knowing that this could somehow bring salvation to people who doesn't know the love of Christ for them. I want them to know Christ also and receive the gift of salvation but if they don't want to accept the gift then it's their choice but somehow when it seems that life get's harder they know already where to go to, that is to Christ. :D

And Jesus most certainly was not killed for his religious beliefs. Crucifixion was the most brutal punishment the Romans had, and was reserved for slaves, pirates and rebels. Logically, the historical Jesus (not your myth) was probably executed for rebelling against Rome.

@rigstula you blame us when it was the Romans who raped and desecrated everyone. They instituted a religion of their own and continued on, a religion not associated with us: the Roman Catholic Church. Indeed, all those acts were done by the Catholics of old.
The Jews strong-armed the Roman procurator into taking action dealing with Jesus. Pilate didn't find Jesus guilty of anything, but naturally he was afraid of the risk of open revolt. Released a different prisoner on Passover instead.

@Agent1W You can blame the Catholics all you want, but the truth is that if it hadn't been for the brutality of the Catholic church, Christianity would never have become a dominant religion. It would now probably be a mere historic curiosity. All Christianity today is the legacy of this, like it or not.
Concerning Jesus, considering his harsh, very Roman punishment and the fact that the Jews did not execute him under their own laws, I think it's far more likely he did something to anger Rome.

@Agent1W And no, it's not just the Catholic church. Protestant missionaries have for centuries, through the imperialism era, spat on native traditions and forced people to convert.
Christianity has a violent and bloody history that is as well documented as the Holocaust. One cannot explain that away, I'm afraid.

@rigstula the early Church grew and expanded from Jerusalem to Rome, but that was pretty much snuffed out by the rise of the Catholics and Orthodoxes. Protestants were still in error of the Scriptures, despite their reformation attempts.
The early Church was not without internal problems; Gnosticism being the first major one. There were still Christians out there who faithfully obeyed the Scriptures in spirit and truth. Regretfully, things got out of hand. :(

@Agent1W It is true that Christianity in its earliest incarnations was not part of this tyranny. Indeed, Nero's persecution of them was despicabe, especially considering how Rome at this time had a history of being relatively tolerant of foreign religions. Yet many Christians always whine about how they were persecuted by the 'evil' Pagans, yet are not even aware how Catholic Rome desecrated sacred Pagan temples to build their churches.

Romans actually did persecute Christains, whom they saw as a sect from Judiasm, a religion that revolted against them before. In fact, the Emperor Dometian persecuted the most Christains. Everyone remembers Nero because he makes a very good villain.
