He also told me that night that in the liner notes of the Frames' album, Dance the Devil, it says, "for jb"...and sure enough, it does. Alain, outstanding job on the cover, and I sure wish I'd been there to hear it live!
Side note: according to Glen (as told many years later), the buddy who had flown him in to play at his wedding, ended up bailing on his bride on their wedding day. Egads...poor girl! But it brought us Glen on that magical night, so I ver selfishly can't be too sad!
Glen Hansard himself told this same story in this same venue (Uncommon Ground in Chicago) on November 17, 2000. He showed up as a surprise last minute guest, after all the scheduled musicians were done and most people had left, long after the coffee shop should have closed. They stayed open late because he had called and was on his way from the airport, having come to town for a buddy's wedding. He played for may 20 of us, unmic'd, for over an hour, and I cried my eyes out the whole time.
my favorite musician, Jimmy Gnecco was Jeffs friend and he also wrote a tribute song to him. Its called i heard you snging. If you like Jeff Id be surprised if you dont like him or this song. It just so happens that both Glen and Alain are also 2 of my favorites so this is of course amazing. thanks
damn. that was absolutely incredible... i don't know why i'm just not finding out you're from Chicago. wish I could have made it out to the show.
you have a way of interpreting music in the most exquisite way and I want to thank you for that. music that I can listen to and just close my eyes and fully indulge myself into is the most perfect kind, and whenever I hear your voice, I am capable of doing so. so thank you. keep up all the wonderful work. you truly are a great talent :)
