I'm trying to develop a own podcasting system because everyone uses WordPress to publish his oodcast. The oroblem is, that you have to install many plugins which may not work in newer WordPress updates. I just want a system, that gives you the basic functionality that you need for your podcast. Hope, that this project will ever create a working system ;-)

I have a Wordpress and a Blogger. Wordpress arbitrarily rejects Basic HTML that Blogger freely accepts and posts correctly. However, I love the Wordpress iPhone App, and am surprised Blogger doesn't have an OFFICIAL iPhone App.

Tumblr is no way near as good as Wordpress as it's a micro-blogging platform. It's only purpose is to publish update feeds. If all you want to post is regular updates with content such as video and photos then itt makes sense, but Wordpress is for serious "bloggers" intended for publishing media rich blog posts. Wordpress 3.0 kills any other platform available.

Drupal performs a lot better, but wordpress is easy to use. Just have to not use a million crappy plugins and use a good cache plugin. If you have heavy traffic anyway. For light usage it doesn't matter so much.

Tumblr strikes a fine line between the likes of Twitter and Wordpress/Blogger because while it offers less than the average blogging platform, it offers way more than micro-blogging platforms. I use Tumblr very rarely for things that are less important than the content of my main website which are also far too large-scale for Twitter or won't be supported by Twitter. I agree with @fintanob's comment below.

Wordpress is good because if you have a good niche like a movie site, game site, family guy, the simpsons series sites, then you can create lot's of money with it using cpalead. You do this by adding a gateway and plugin on your wordpress blogs , download links etc and the user has to complete a survey. Once they have done it your content get's unlocked.

I disagree that Tumblr doesn't offer anything to the user, in my opinion it fills nicely a space between micro-blogging (Twitter) and serious full scale blogging (WP). All three are awsome services that simply provide alternatives depending on the sort of content you want to publish

I love Tumblr for the community and for the reblogging feature. I feel pretty isolated over in no man's land aka my website. ;) I think community-driven blog services might be a good way to get started or to establish an audience which you can then direct over to your regular website/blog.

For overall blogging.. can't beat Wordpress.
