so argue whether its the VH 60, VH 3, the VH 35D all you want, in the end its whichever is carrying the president. even if its a small Bell Ranger from the PD, if the presidents it, its Marine One.

Why don't they put the President in much smaller helicopter, but have several of them all unmarked, that way no terrorist will know which one he is in. The more the better. This also provides better protection as each one will have counter-missile defenses so can have a better chance to protect against multiple attacks and cost less. Also if they used a hybrid system with a battery, each one would be mechanically safer and could be more agile, and not produce heat signature under emergency.

The S-60 Backhawk has several compturized systems and pilots who have done exchanges from the Canadian Air Force with experience in the Sea King find that the Blackhawk is a great aircraft to fly, but have trouble with how light it feels.
@hewittdj1 The military modifies all the presidential aircrafts, they may be designed a certain way, but it is outfitted with the latest hardware and technology and defense system so that it's like a flying fortress. They don't fall out of skies randomly, not the Marine One helicopters.
To supplement my response to kintatzu333 below, I think that since 5 AugustaWestland VH-71 Increment One airframes are built-superior to the H-3s, they might go with that, just not so gold-plated. A good balance would be 15 or so VH-71s or VH-92s, then put the VH-60Ns through a Service Life Extension Program since these Hawks are preferred for overseas travel anyway. For now, the 30-year old H-3s will have to go through the SLEP program and will be good as new. But we don't need 50-year old M1s!

Well...the POTUS does have 8 BlackHawks classified as "VH-60Ns" (foldout doors instead of the sliding doors of the UH-60 utility transport) to supplement the 11 VH-3D SeaKings...all Sikorsky products. The Sikorsky S-92 SuperHawk would have made a nice replacement for the 11 SeaKings, being larger, faster, better. But the VH-71 Kestrels are yet better and a bit bigger but they overloaded them with bells/whistles, making each one of the proposed 23 cost MORE than each AF1 747. The H-60s are OK.

@musicman216 In the Sea King, no. Nothing is computerized at all: So the pilots believe they are truly flying it. The S-60 Backhawk has several compturized systems and pilots who have done exchanges from the Canadian Air Force with experience in the Sea King find that the Blackhawk is a great aircraft to fly, but have trouble with how light it feels.

@hewittdj1 The military modifies all the presidential aircrafts, they may be designed a certain way, but it is outfitted with the latest hardware and technology and defense system so that it's like a flying fortress. They don't fall out of skies randomly, not the Marine One helicopters.

To supplement my response to kintatzu333 below, I think that since 5 AugustaWestland VH-71 Increment One airframes are built-superior to the H-3s, they might go with that, just not so gold-plated. A good balance would be 15 or so VH-71s or VH-92s, then put the VH-60Ns through a Service Life Extension Program since these Hawks are preferred for overseas travel anyway. For now, the 30-year old H-3s will have to go through the SLEP program and will be good as new. But we don't need 50-year old M1s!

"They" wanted to replace both the big VH-3D and the air-transportable VH-60N with a single VXX model...plus have the capacity for tv transmissions in flight, on top of all the safety and security specs needed for POTUS use. Even with the VH-71, it just couldn't be don't without billions of dollars and years of development. Of course, those 1970s VH-3Ds aren't getting any younger....

Well...the POTUS does have 8 BlackHawks classified as "VH-60Ns" (foldout doors instead of the sliding doors of the UH-60 utility transport) to supplement the 11 VH-3D SeaKings...all Sikorsky products. The Sikorsky S-92 SuperHawk would have made a nice replacement for the 11 SeaKings, being larger, faster, better. But the VH-71 Kestrels are yet better and a bit bigger but they overloaded them with bells/whistles, making each one of the proposed 23 cost MORE than each AF1 747. The H-60s are OK.

Where are you even getting this information from? The US did not supply the chemicals Saddam used on the Kurds. Iraq had the capability to make their own chemicals then you know. At least 98% of those civilians died because of sectarian violence and not by US soldiers. Although the US did kill some civilians, it is nowhere near hundreds of thousands. Get the facts straight.
