@boazrg I think it is mostly like damages from WWI. Please remember, there was Bruсsilov Line (Бруссиловский прорыв), the building probably has endured a lot shelling. The picture could be taken not long after the war. People could be poor after the war, but with every year the quality of life was improving. Jewish community was more prosperous then peasants. It is pity and shame that Soviet demolished this beautiful structure. I've been in this historical town a lot of times.

@beepeelow Well, the people were very poor in Poland before WWII, and they could not afford to maintain the building properly.
