  • if you think blacks are bad, get a load of the jews who cheerlead for them! (the woman who made this documentary about racist white Christians, for example) no wonder jews have been expelled hundreds of times... let's make it one more!

  • The Machine isn't all white you know.

  • Energizer205, apparently you do not know the history of The Machine or you are just comfortable with how it works. The Machine PICKS winners based on racism and privilege not because they are the best choice. You really need to learn how to comprehend before you try to defend something.

  • As other comments say, it's true that no one outside of the Greek System cares about homecoming elections at all at the University of Alabama. But I did want to point out that The Machine is a real problem, affecting many in one way or another. Even me and my isolated, nothing-at-all-to-do-with-sorostitutes life. I don't agree that a popularity contest should be the vehicle used to stick it to them, but I feel the film's purpose was noble. As a real UA student, The Machine needs to go away.

  • Interesting trailor...where can I watch this film online?

  • This was an excellent documentary. Very interesting film, especially the ending.

  • I would not waste my time watching this obvious integration brainwashing tripe!! Nice try, rgoslins, you can fool most of us but certainly not all of us!!

  • @Gman6755

Had you actually bothered to watch the film, you would know that it's a documentary about one young woman's journey to be the homecoming queen and what she had to deal with during the process and her perspective. That's it. And yes, I do own the film.

  • @ninjapoodle22 Why would I want to watch such a "film" as you call it? I would break down your own film for you but I am certain you yourself are so brainwashed on racial matters that it would be a waste of my time. Enjoy your life and keep making more worthless films to fool the sheeple.

  • @Gman6755

Why would you want to watch it? Just to see a different perspective other than your own. Get out of your bubble an experience the rest of the world. No one says you have to agree with it.

  • People need to stop this talk about qualifications. Most of the time If the majority is of a certain race, a candidate of that race will win. When people win any contest it's normally because of their race, their looks, or because they knew the right people. I think any University with a large majority of one race should make a minorities vote worth more so they could have a chance at winning. This sucks, but we wouldn't have to do this if it was really about qualifications.

  • WELCOME MY SON WELCOME TO THE MACHINE

  • There could be racism on the "white side" but this chick wants to win to directly to change the race of the winner rather than win it fairly through it's real purpose.

  • Holy shit, racism!

  • Yeah. I don't think that Homecoming is that big of deal, but I do understand what this film is talking about. Someone should do a documentary on SGA elections at UA. Now that would be awesome. and whoever said that the uniforms isn't during homecoming is right. This year there was some controversy about that and we're still waiting to see the University's respond.

  • this so stupid and blown out of proportion...the fraternity dressed as soldiers does not even occur during homecoming week...and nobody even cares about homecoming queen

  • This was an excellent film. I hope the school and it's community can move forward and actually judge candidates based on their quality, character, and what they have to contribute to the campus community. And for you naysayers, if there was no problem from the get go, this documentary would not exist.

  • Why do you think that this particular black female wasn't judged on her quality and character. Why is it that minorities think that if they do not win that it has to be evil in origin?

Black culture is often contray to Southern culture. Does that make it wrong, no, but if White southerners choose to promote their own over another, why do you think you have a right to complain? Minorities do not have a right to be put over their white counterparts just for the sake of claiming equality.

  • i saw this, ....not surprised a white bitch won

  • Why do you call her a bitch. How many white bitches have one the black miss america contest?

How many times has there been a black miss america?

There are plenty of black univeristies that have white students that attend and never win the homecoming queen title.

  • but that still doesn't excuse the fact that there is prejudice, and it needs to be stopped. The only reason ppl do this is out of disgust that there is racism even in home coming queen elections

  • my school uab is about to play this film in a week or si,ive already seen it and can see the racism behind the machine regardless of who denies it, but i also see the point made of people complaining about the machine and not voting. i have plenty of white and black friends thay go there and almost all of them understand the agenda behind the machine and also see no one trying to stop it...everyone should watch the film all they way through.

  • Gwaltney won, the machine's canidate, fraternity's run this campus and GDI's like this black bitch will work for us one day

  • ironmiketodd DID you talk to every African American? Did you poll every African American. If you did not please shut up with your generalizations. Trust me they certainly can go both ways.

  • The point of the film is to state that their is an organization continously picking queens instead of going based on votes. The fact that all of the queens are whites is just another issue. An idiot can understand this movie. Stop trying to make it complicated.

  • Loved this movie.

  • I didn't see the end

    So, who won?

  • Excellent film! Keep them coming!

  • While the UA Greek system is obviously racist, I disagreed with how the movie portrayed the university. I was there for three degrees, and the movie was not an accurate portrayal of campus life for the majority of students.

  • I saw this documentary today and I have to say that the blacks are trying to create division. I realize there are some white retards in your school (The Machine) But to want to win homecoming queen just because there hasn't been a black queen for a long time is stupid. Most blacks voted for Barack Obama and didn't even know his qualifications or his agenda. When will the blacks view themselves as Americans and get over this African American issue, IT'S OLD ALREADY.

  • thanks for responding to my commnents. I will definitely watch the film now.

  • And which school has a much higher percentage of African Americas in its student body? UA, or more "progressive" institutions such as USC, UCLA, Harvard, UC Berkely, Ohio State, etc. UA is the correct answer. UA has its troubles for sure, and I too hate the Machine, but I am so sick of Northerners looking down their nose at Alabama and projecting their prejudices onto us.

  • Sorry - I didn't remove your comments. I had to take down and repost the video for tech reasons. I understand where you're both coming from, and I encourage you to see the film (buy it at the website - see summary - or watch it on IFC during November). The film takes a pretty balanced view, doesn't paint everyone as racist, and makes a lot of the points that you raise in your comments. It also explains that there have been previous black homecoming queens (and what's changed since then).

  • So feel free to criticize the film, but at least watch it first!

  • Why did you remove my comments? As I said, when I attended UA, we elected an African American for Homecoming Queen. She was my Chemistry teacher's daughter. Why are you portraying this as something that had not ever been done before? And yes, the Machine is a bad group. But if they go after blacks, it isnt because they are black, but because they are not Machine supported candidates. I too ran against the Machine, am white, and lost.

  • Get over yourself... Its only a machine if you make it out to be one. Win be because your better... not because your basing it on who won in the past. What a joke

  • IF you know anything about the history or have seen the film, you can't deny that it has been very effective at getting its candidates into office - through both legitimate and illegitimate means. But the film ultimately makes the point that the real problem is all the people who sit around and whine about the Machine and then DON'T VOTE. Watch the film before you criticize it.
