  • The player never selected weapon #6, what is it?

Fast action, not widely scene on Amiga shooters like this one.

  • holy crap my last name is ZIRIAX. How the hell did I never hear about this game?

  • Nice work guys!

I´m now 31 and remember this game a lot from my childhood. Loved the intro music.

Are you still working in videogames?

    Regards from a spanish Fan.

  • this game had a disk mastering error, making the extro impossible to load :(

And the game was finally published by Software Business. The worse is that EVEN the game poster where the credits are, original Ziriax creators are not credited, it's italian guys that are thanks for this game :'(

  • Nowadays we don't make games no more (sadly enough) after another few years of hard work on Zarathrusta and another 'failure'.

You can visit my website erroba(dot)be or my stream on flickr (also under erroba), yes it's really me although I luckily don't look like that photo anymore :D

Most credits must go to Peter for programming this in assembler, I 'just' put the pixels in the right spot :D

  • Rataplan is crazy, we share all credits of course :)

These long play recordings of old Amiga games are a real tribute to all artists, immortalizing their work. The games can be downloaded, but a full video showing all the (h)artwork is even better.

Completing Zarathrusta (our second game which never got published due to bankruptcy of Hewson just before it got released) would be a whole other story, I guess that would be many hours of video...

Many many thanks and keep up the hard work

  • Do you guys still have a working copy of the game? I would love to give it a try :)

  • I still got the original box + diskette, but I will have to try to boot my old amiga 1200 and see if it still works, it's been collecting dust for years...

  • Nevermind i already found a working version - you sure it was never released - because it says it was in the Hall of Light on abime

  • Well as far as we know Hewson went bankrupt and it never appeared on the shelves, it was very close though, since everything was ready, box, manual, reviews appeared in magazines etc, very frustrating (it still hurts after more than 2O years).

You will really needs some patience with this game, 53 levels, 26 made by me and 27 by Peter (he always needs the last word ;), hence he's called chatterbox), Peter made a level designer so I could design and test levels immediately...

  • I never actually got a chance to play this one and i thought i had played them all!!.. I remember the name though, but if going by what you are saying is true, then its no wonder why i never saw it :( It looks like a great shootem-up and i would be absolutely GUTTED if i was you as well. But if it means anything to you mate, its an absolute honour to be able to post to you after seeing the quality of your work, work done on the legendary AMIGA !!

  • Thanks a lot ;)

Always does me (or better us) good that people still like it.

  • Anytime Mate, Anytime! :)

  • ooow :( sorry for you guys

  • If you're gonna make one longplay of Zarathrusta, I wonder how long that's gonna take and how many people would sit through that :D

  • ... haven't got a screen to hook it up to anymore, gave that away, wonder if that still works, have to check with Mr.Walrus ;)

  • Nevertheless, I am in deep respect of you both guys!

  • Hey thanks man! That's very nice of you. I surely miss the old days, when creating these games was still a form of individual art.

  • 'Rataplan is crazy'

    Thanks Peter ;)

  • SPS-Version of Zarathrusta exits. Time will tell :-)

  • Can't believe how difficult that looks after all those years!

It really feels good to see that at least some folks must have really enjoyed our creation(s), the way this guy plays is awesome, never even lost a single life.

The amount of work we put into that, the gfx are pixel gfx, only 16 colors for each level, painted pixel by pixel, hours and hours on end, had to redo a school year 'cause of that ;)

Thanks for posting that on Peter's birthday !!! Yes we're still the best friends.

  • To be fair 95% of our longplays are done with the help of savestates - thats why they appear so flawless - the players are not really THAT good in most cases :)

However you still have to have basic skills, know the game/genre and have patience in order to finish those :)

  • Well I could have guessed ;D

I never finished it, always stranded on the last level, which was much more up tempo than the previous ones. The first level graphics were done last, that level was actually added afterwards, that's why the second level looks less attractive, I was still learning how to make pixel graphics, it's an art in it's own right certainly with the few colours we had at the time.

    Thanks again for posting this.

  • Ha, but still, you proved it is possible to complete it :) It is strange that you don't use the weapons as they were supposed to be used. To idea was that you got really good at aiming the rotating rockets, which are really powerful. When you keep the fire button pressed, they keep rotating, acting as a weak shield. If you depress the fire button, the rockets escape, keeping their current direction. Most reviewers did not get that, and hence this was regarded as a useless shield ;)

  • This is *amazing*. Together with "Rataplan", I created this videogame in the late eighties and I was only able to finish my own game once. The game never got published because I lost all source code (3 years of hard work...) after a full harddisk crash. Furthermore all floppy disk backups were damaged too. I guess we shouldn't have joked with the GODS in the end ;-) (Although personally I blame static electricity due to new carpet and no grounding and living underneath a high voltage cable...).

  • But a rather great R-Type clone actually. I like the music and the graphics. Dunno how it plays, though. Never played it back then.

  • How many r-type clones are there? :P
