  • eww that looks bad and worst of all it runs bad........man linux is kinda good.....but wine sucks ballzzz

  • the reason its running at like 10fps is because of the sea of debug messages you're seeing in the console. Disable the debugging in wine (I don't know how to do it off the top of my head) and you'll get 2-3x more performance.

  • Crysis isn't best known for it's great graphics. Turn the graphics to max and try again.

  • wow.. running at 10fps with lowest graphics config.. good work :S but I prefer buy a windows license and a original crysis.. to obtain the maximum performance..

  • I'll keep on dual booting.

  • Crysis is shit and a system hog. It fails. Nothing wrong on your part though and hooray for Ubuntu!

  • I have a PC with Linux Ubuntu 10.10, Intel Core2Duo 1.6 GHz, 1 GB ram and 256mb intel gma!

GTA 3 is very slow on my PC, will I did something wrong in configuration? I need to install DirectX 9 on Wine?

  • @renatoprofilebrazil ok i learned the hard way installing direct x on wine, it already has something like direct x.

also do u happen to have the acer aspire one? because when i tried to get gta 3 to work it either gave me a black screen or didnt load...

and for the game being slow, its most likely wines fault because it is pretty resource hungry and 1.6 ghz processor and 1 gb ram will not get you very far...

  • Does the game run as fast as it would in windows ?

  • woah kewl :D

  • i dont get y ppl use virtual os

  • @karamara

Here's a nickel, kid. Get yourself a real computer.

    @others

I'd give up buggy shit winblows in a heart beat if they would make opengl/al games for linux.

  • @Logan9773 Linux is buggier than Windows.

  • @Logan9773 that is the problem right there... the opengl games for linux are..... crap....... if it was fun to play games like those we'd all still be playing nintendo 64 or playstation (1)... but big game studios don't want to make a game that can only be used by about 3% of the market instead of a game that can be played by about 90%... the only good game i've seen that's made to be compatible with linux is world of goo (awesome fun, but really..... it gets old).

  • damn how can you play like this?? windows is way better for playing man its a reallity, if you want to buy windows you can download it from the internet

  • people are giving up on windows because windows pisses them off. Little by little Linux users make Windows programs more and more compatible with Linux. There are people out there that can run just about any windows program on Linux through Wine

  • lets be honest for just a moment o.k. windows won't be going anywere for quite a while and that's if at all!!!! I am a windows user and i hate it... the only thing that i use windows for is games. I have been considering moving to mac or linux and using windows as a side dish for games... problem is i know nothing about mac or Linux... I've read a bit about how they work but that's it. Anyway what i was saying is that Microsoft should die! there original xbox was pretty nice though wasn't it?

  • @Brolly39 the xbox had a lot of flaws also, mine's dvd drive is failing, hasn't worked right since about '05. and the games were kinda... slow, even compared to older systems... the racing games seemed like you're walking down the road, may as well have the graphic be of someone pushing a car... anyway, unfortunetly most consumer software is designed for Windows. i'd love for that to change but Mac is more likely than Linux to gain ground because of inconsistencies in Linux.

  • @hegone93 Windows is not pissing them off, its PEBKAC.

  • You're missing the point. He has a low spec anyway, so even in windows he will struggle. Just appreciate what he's done to get it working.

The only thing stopping me from making Ubuntu my primary OS is gaming and CS4.

  • i only said that for gaming windows is better. Is spite of he has low spec in windows i may will play without bug and more smooth, im not saying that ubuntu is a bad OS, i only said that you have to do a lot of things for play a game on it

  • You're probably right about game stability.

I still prefer Ubuntu over everything though ;P

  • save some cpu by suppressing the error messages flood in console by setting ENV var WINEDEBUG=-all

  • is it messed up because your pc can't quite handle it or because its on wine?

  • @diOneManArmy there is a large cpu overhead under wine. i can't even run half life on mine. but with an i7 or another high end cpu you could probably run some very recent games.

i know half life 2 and others run pretty well on 775 sockets.

  • PC can;t handle it, 8400GS and AThlon64 are quite slow by todays standards. (And the 8400GS was never fast...)

  • LOOKS LIKE SHIT

  • Great job, now all we need is FULL compatibility to make the games run as if it were windows. (dx11 and shit). Then, Linux>>Windows>Mac OS

  • i wish...

i wish all games worked on everything (even mac), but unfortunately i don't think this will happen anywhere in the near future.

  • That doomguy cpu monitor is the most awesome thing I've ever seen.

  • cedega IS wine

  • Linux=windows>Mac os

  • Linux is way more customizable than Windows, and thanks to wine, a lot of games for windows actually work quite well.

    Why pay for an OS!?

  • @nelizmastr no need download from a torrent then its free.

  • @nelizmastr i wouldn't define this as working quite well. THIS is working quite well

    /watch?v=c0ema518xuo&feature=fvst

  • @Roflofl129 I stick to windows for now. All the compiling makes my head spin XD

  • @nelizmastr yeah i know but can it run battlefield 3

  • @Mr123whatevah nope. it sure cant. Limited to dx9 rendering through OpenGL.

I havent touched linux since typing the comment lulz.

  • @nelizmastr oh maybe they're gonna update this to direct x 11 version

and do u like gaming on windows?

  • @Mr123whatevah linux can't do advanced graphics like dx11, and won't in the next 5 years probably. Windows is, and will be the best gaming platform.

  • ROX A LOT!

    Linux DETONA!

  • I do like how linux is becoming a competitor for windows. Unfortunately, I still believe windows wins the fight when it comes to gaming. Other than that, Linux is more efficient, more customizable, and reliable. When linux becomes the primary OS for gaming, I won't wait so much as a second to switch to it.

  • it's just the customizing part, and less resources but alot of times it's still not going to be very efficient,it's just that most pple don't multitask alot, and i mean alot and if you guys haven't run in some problems while multitasking in linux well.. ur not multitasking enough lolz :))

  • I don't have trouble multi-tasking(many tabs in Chromium browser, listening to music, maybe playing a game, flash running in pages)... of course, I have a dual-core processor. ;)

The biggest problem is I run out of memory, but that's because Flash starts eating a hole in it after a while and I only have 1.5GB.

  • Windows sucks, expensive and clunky. The only reason windows is so popular with gamers is because that's all game developers make games for is windows. Think of it this way- Linux can play Windows games but Windows could never play a Linux game (atleast as well as markus here has gotten crysis to work)! Linux ownz =P and its free; however i'm not saying windows is useless and every body should switch over im just saying dont diss Linux for not being able to play windows games =P

  • I know, this isn't exactly Linux I'm thinking of, but advances like these in successfully running games like Crysis on anything besides vista will be perfect for when Reactos is finished.

Though I truly love the fact you've gotten crysis to work nearly perfect on Linux. Don't listen to them, Linux is a great OS.

  • What the-- Why does it show the screen again in the corner?

  • It's an old rendering bug that was fixed with a recent Nvidia driver update (I haven't seen it back on my rig since then).

  • that is the point you have to doe many things before you can play the damn game. + the games are buggy

when windows is installed you install the game and your ready to play.

  • This game is buggy/bloated/unoptimized to begin with.

Hmmm, a game designed for Windows is running with less hassle within Windows... This is awesome news to Windows users everywhere. Again, Windows XP/Vista/7 users, you may find it shocking that your apps and games that you bought for your OS may actually work as intended.

I, on the other hand, will stick with Linux + Wine and enjoy my 112k - 2d in CS:S and 74k - 5d in CoD4 using this combination. And piss on the iPhone, Android rocks.

  • what do those numbers mean?

    112k - 2d and 74k - 5d?

  • Average kills to deaths in online play in each game.

  • Showing off is not very cool you know?

  • So i take it that Crysis runs slower in Linus than it does in windows, and Vista... ?

  • wow looks like a slideshow. That´s a shame linux can´t run any games like win, couse would be nice to have performance and security in the same OS.

  • You have both in Linux - while you have neither in Win.

  • Look at his GPU. 8400GS. take a hint. it could run faster with a better gpu.

  • if you noticed, he's running it on an 8400gs

  • direct3d sucks, cause you have to emulate it on linux. There aren't so many native games for linux this is why linux users have to emulate them. The game developers making games for windows because it has more money. Everything is around money in the world unfortunately (except for open source and free software). The other thing: you can't play native console games on PC. Does PC suck? No, cause you have the opportunity to calibrate everything that you can with your hardware.

  • Translate, not emulate.

  • if you want to game in linux it would probably be better to run XP in a VM and the game within that VM, much easier to setup

  • A VM can not do very well with 3D Aceleration... in my case, I can not play Quake3 in a VM, and Q3 is a very low resources game, so crysis is not going to work .

  • wine is better for most things

  • @rmmarkus: not quite true...

in case of VirtualBox, it do support 2D & 3D acceleration. 3D acceleration works only for OpenGL and even DirectX8 (not 7, not 9, no 10..etc).

Give VirtualBox a try, and u will never go back to a crappy VMWare where even menu-windows get somehow stuck bcz there is no 2D acceleration.

  • I got it running like that on my computer too, except it would occasionally close randomly which does get annoying and I can play the game maxed out settings on WIn7, Linux even though I love it, can't nearly compete for Crysis. It does however play some games, like Half Life 2 just as well as it does in Windows :D though some games like Crysis doesn't work that well, some work very well. I heard someone got FarCry to work just as good on Linux as it does on Windows, but I never tried.

  • Lol, if linux "sucks", why all normal company use linux for server. PHP, Apache, TCP. before all protocol added in win, they first add in unix.

  • 1 the grafic card

2 that game is FOR WIN2s and IS RUNing on Linux

    3 DX10 was made FOR WIN2

if u dn´t now wht am tkn so fuk u

  • N64 graphics.

  • omg that you call run`???????????

  • omg, I wish it ran that good on Ubuntu 9.04 with WIne, on a Pentium 4 @ 3.15Ghz , 9500GT 512Mb, 2GB ram...

  • your graffics card is probily not helping in preformance!

  • What is that applet you're running on the right side of the screen? I liked the doom guy thing =)

  • Lol the graphics look like crap but still pretty good.

  • hey, "windows liker", try run Crysis with Aero, & not fullscreen mode. if crysis maker, cr. they on non win api! this game fly on Linux gentoo.

while u buying more & more better computer, on gentoo people run new game on old machine.. ;) Gentoo 4 times faster then any Windows.

    Don't belive me? Belive Google..

  • i run crysis with aero everytime.

no problems at all. and i sometimes run it windowed.

what are you trying to prove?

  • This dickhead can't even speak English, so what makes you think he isn't talking out of his ass?

  • Linux has other advantages, it's more secure and it's a lot more stable if ran right. For gaming, probably not the BEST OS for it but I love Linux regardless because it's GREAT for other things. However a lot of games I can get to run in Linux just as well as Windows, just not Crysis sadly since I love that game lol

  • linux is for servers... i couldn't say it's much more secure than Windows (when it is in right hands lol) thou. And it's definetly poor in other ways...

"lot more stable if ran right" yea, "ran right" are the most important words... but that is a huge problem to make it run right, esp. the BSD ones imho.

BUT IT IS NOT FOR MEDIA OF ANY SORT

  • it can't be more secure than a perfect little Windows 7 with Norton 360 with everything bought, installed, up-to-date, and with Anonimyzer, MalwareBytes and other stuff....

    (overprotecting... :-)

  • Norton? Come on...

  • i know, i know, i heard it sucks nuts...

  • I've had alot of experience with Windows, and I'd advise NOD32. It comes with a firewall, and has alot of good shizz. Scans files as you download.

  • BSD ≠ Linux

  • laggy

  • Yeah!

  • Try actually taking the time to learn a distro you like and start using it side by side with Windows. If you do that you won't want Windows. I think the only reason you say Windows is better is that because most retail software is written (entirely different APIs and binaries) for it, it would have to be put through a compatibility layer or emulator to run properly on Linux. Imagine if it were the other way around and software was only written for Linux.

  • you got it working better then I ever did, good work

  • OMG, how many fps?

  • Very bad, in Windows is better. :D

  • what? no you can achieve the same FPS in windows as you can with linux.

  • linux: very big zer0 for games

  • how did you get it to run hit me back asap

  • dude run better in windows XP

  • ohh MFG!! XDD

With my 4870... Thanks for this =)

  • Lol, do you fail here often?

  • its on a 8400

  • @top-guy

Oh please, disconnect before we all die of retardaids.

  • So you can run DX games on linux? Then I see no reason for me to remain with this sluggish OS (windows). But how much will the performance suffer?

  • This depends largely upon the game, some older games may even run faster.

  • hey guys, can u tell me any help in that i want to run Tomb Raider: Underworld under Linux, but i can't because it's too slow and the game screen is dirty brown.. i can't see anything during the game, only the menu what i can see!

    helpme pls!

  • thank you.

you video are good and of crisis what is a the best game

  • thank you.

you video are good and of crisis what is a the best game

  • ok, I understand now,

Punisherx64 is a troll a noob troll to be exactly, don't pay attention They are fed with attention...

  • hahaha fuckin moron, Linux is the shit!! And yes, it run crysis, CoD 4, Prince of Persia 4 (The new one), gta 4, and more, more, more games.. Not false.

Windows is for losers, fuckin embarrassing O.S.

  • actually Wine doesn't run GTA IV yet

  • "actually Wine doesn't run GTA IV yet"

Neither does most releases of Windows XD. GTA IV requires XP SP3 or Vista SP1 to run.

  • but you get kicked on punkbuster servers!

  • nah , you can download punkbuster and patch your games...

  • You sound like the biggest moron on earth. Specifical? Not even a word! Even funnier how you believe this is Vista. You obviously do not know about computers. Please, do the world a favour and sell your computer. Right now.

  • id like to see linux handle this in mass physics calculation situation and then compare to windows

  • Nice frame rate and textural artifacts.

    /sarcasm

  • Can you explain in more detail how you did this? I'm running gentoo as well.

  • how does the graphics and frame rate compare to windows?

  • Wow I didn't know their was ANY PC that can run that game. I bet you have an entire building full of hardware powering that game. lol

  • Actually, people define running the game as running it on full spec.

most computers (prebuilt) built within the last year or two can run it, and any custom built system for around $600 can run it on medium to high, if not very high.

  • Yep... I can run crysis very high 1280x1024 30fps ;)

  • 50 here ;]

  • sweet.

  • 1280x1024, around 35 avg fps for me (except in the freaking ice levels... It goes as low as 15 there :P)

  • Rofl :P nice But it looks like the card in this video is seriously artifacting XD (i know its not though :P)

  • Just realized you posted a response. Awesome job, I didn't think the game could run that well in Wine. How's Gentoo? I've been using Slackware lately and I'm thinking about checking it out.

  • I see your console outputing lots of data, have you used "WINEDEBUG=-all" without commas before the wine command? it could increase your framerate.

Windowed mode is probably cutting back some more fps's.

    Nice vid :)

  • rmmarkus, what is the name of your Doom system monitor?

I can't seem to find it anywhere.

  • its GKrellm and the plugin is Flynn

    I hope that helps

  • Meant windows; ...it is much more stable than linux... should read ...it is much more stable than windows...

  • lunching games with the console is a bad idea because you do a lot of input/output acces. So it lags the CPU. You should lunch it from the wine menu, from ALT+F2 or from a script wich you don't lunch in a console ;)

  • Hey, here's an idea, let's install Windows and then we can play the game without effort.

    Seriously, Linux isn't for gaming.

  • Sure, give me 100 bucks and I'll think about it.

  • dude any1 hacks windows....hell I had professional,98 and now vista ultimate all cracked(in ur terms, free as linux)

  • goodluck with windows vista genuine

  • hey why you dont invest the U$S300 to buy a better hardware, and use linux that will fly in that hardware.

I can play crysis prity well with a patch for the mouse, and I have U$S300 in my pocket.

  • u call that preety well?I mean seriously....look at all the glitches

  • that video is old, there is apatch now, that fix the mouse problem, and I can play ok in linux right now, the little windows of the top left have disapeared in resent wine, and in linux I get 15-20fps and a friend with similar hardware get 14-18fps, so, its better play it in linux.

  • that's bcuz this vid likes high quality....and shadows set to high?wtf?there is no shadow rendering system in ur vid!not even low

  • But now Linux CAN be for gaming, which is why it's becoming more and more apparent that Linux is the way to go.

  • Yes for the advance user mind you..

  • Yes, for the advanced user, or the user who has friends who knows and is WILLING to learn =P Everybody started from zero.

  • Most newer distros like Ubuntu are pretty easy to use, and they get better features much faster than Windows.

If only they could ditch that accursed FHS. It's ruining everything, srsly.

  • Yeah I got Ubuntu, I can get some games to go, but others can be a lot more tricky.. I made an old windows app (WinMX p2p with chat) work under wine just for a laugh...

  • Thanks, I was just wondering because to get Crysis to run at all on Linux is almost unheard of. That's why I wondered if this was better for gaming. Have you tried any other games, like Half-Life 2?

  • I played at 15FPS but with a lot of artifacts, you can see light artifacts and a quarter of the screen duplicated.

In that definition 800x600 all things look crashed..

And the worst is that the mouse scape the windows

  • Is Gentoo better to game on than Ubuntu?

  • No, all are linux, all have the same software, gentoo is a little faster, because it compile every aplication for that hardware... but with current hardware it improved performance is depreceated.
