  • Blackie did play on this video.. He joined the band on live tour in 1975 to replace the guitar player Johny Thunders when left them.. It was olny for the tour.. Blackie is the one on the left of the singer.. You can recognize Blakies moves as he is playing the guitar :)

  • mclaren was possibly from the days of the Kray's people mention him like he was somesort of "TV personality".......gangster......he was

  • could anyone please post the lyrics of the first song red patent leather, can´t find it anywhere on the internet and there are no lyrics on the back of the vinylcover.

i´m not a native speaker and i´m having problems with getting all the words by listening, so please someone help me

  • Love that last tune.

A Stray Cats cover tune from their early early days that is classic.

  • three people know this story,David, Cristigau, and Tommy.....this is the the first "cut"..that brings the dolls down....Cristgau puts ONE mention of this "The Lipstick Killers" moment in the Village Voice;its a matchbook sized photo with 2 sentences. "The Lipstick Killers" was to have ; "John Lennon " & Yoko, Steve Marriott, as guest stars....instead the album is dismantled....about four months later Johnny Thunders (1st CBGB Show) traipses in to cbgb with Jerry Nolan and the tarts

  • E so this time the fit Cristigau thows is worse than the first....Davids face works into a slight scowl...finally he stands and says AHM TRYIN TO DO MY THING UP THERE AHM TRYIN TA BE ARTISTICK YOU KNOW WHAT AH MEAN?

  • D Davids manner is still as stone....Cristigau scrunches up his face and begins this rant..i guess it was a moment to Norman Mailer ..hes giving David like "a managing editors flip out" DAVID WHT THE FUCK U WANT METO WRITEE ABOUT THAT FUCKINCOMMIE FLAG...thats just the first line this 'fit goes on for minutes...David waits till he stops and says : AHN TRYIN TO DO MY THING UP THEIR, AHM TRYIN TO BE ARTITSTICK.........beats pass..Cristgau starts flippping his hair and starts again..

  • C the flag succesfully is co-opted ..brought down to "art essence" and the little nancy spungen stripped tarts are dancing befor the stage its so fukkkn loud its deafening, like tnt in a belfry.....its a dolls party ....though....afterwards when they are all out of the dressing roomand many have left...david is summoned to sit at a table with "the Press" VVoice..Robert Cristigau.....David is the picture of health ..he sits down at the table with Robert and his face mugs Edward G Robinson.

  • B ......the music is simalar to 'personality crisis' " WRECKLESS CRAZAY!! " david stands almost still as he delivers the lyriics, onehand holds the mike the other hangs limp..each member has their name somewhere on their red outfit, johnnys it on the back of a plastic jacket "johnny thunders" its from shoulder to shoulder. Peter Jordan is subbing for Arthur Kane....they play three songs back to back before david says anything........no one thinks too much about the chinese communist flag...

  • A.....the first night/ wayne county is DJ,he's playing elvis, roxy music,ny dolls...it gets late..3/4 of the place is drag queens..."sitting" 'hey siitt dowwnnn!!!' the stage was for a show girl reveiw , it has this weird paper and black little wait high 'gate that has to section-slide .....so finally the stage goes black ,an announcer yells "ladies and gentlemen.. the new york dolls!" and they're on like a shot each ;syl, david, and johnnny poised in an aggressive foward stance... loud loud

  • I would love to have gay sex with David Johanson

  • I have this album on vinyl. Who cares if they were past their prime on these songs? I appreciate the record of it.

  • the mistery of the dolls

they were supposed to make it and then....... too much too soon was a total flop and malcom with the communist thing made them ridicolous

where did they wrong? the first album sold less than they've expected?

  • what are the songs in this?

  • he played 3 shows in florida

  • so its true then!As you guys say below, Blackie did replace Johnny for a period of time right?

  • for a very short time frame, might have only been a month

  • Blackie also played with Arthur Kane in Corpse Grinder and turned Mr Kool into a Wasp song and changed the name to Cries In The Night

  • @markwasthere Not even, only like 6 shows.

  • @mariosthunders blackie did replace(or filled in for) johnny for a few gigs after johnny and jerry split the dolls. recommend the book of new york dolls by nina antonia. there are a lot of facts of new york dolls`' career in seventies

  • Still a bit of life in 'em here! Thanks for posting this. What's Syl wearing??

  • Check out myspace/ragdollpa

    AMAZING BAND!!!

  • I just wanted to add

    to my last comment,

    I am grateful also to

    Steve Conte and the

    rest of the crew

for making the current Doll's happen.

  • Long live the Doll's!

Syl and Johnny r the perfect pair,

    I didn't know they had a replacement

    for JT in 1975, interesting.

No one could truly replace him tho.

  • No clue where he played. Nothing I have in my collection mentions him on anything.

  • Blackie replaced Johnny in the Dolls for a very short time in 1975. If he played any gigs with the Dolls at all it would have been very few in Florida '75. I have never seen a photo let alone any video of Blackie with the Dolls.

  • i had that vinilo .now is in pawn shop i tink

  • can anyone tell me if blackie lawless played with them in those last shows???if not in which shows did he play???is there any footage here in youtube??

  • I blieve Blackie played with DJ & Syl Dolls at the bitter end. Blackie I think was in Arthurs band Corpse grinders or Idols then WASP

  • Ok thanks for the info but would you know whether there is any video footage of Blackie performing with them and where it can be found???

  • stones impersonators,good

  • Oh i'd never seen any footage of them playing Eddie Cochran's Something Else. fucking cool.

RIP Thunders, it's been 18 years now

  • pehaps this is the last show in new york of the originals dolls ???

  • i dont know how many shows they did at this place but its sure damn close to the end of a real NYC dolls show

  • Johnny Thunders RIP

  • that ain't steve jones guitar....his doesnt have a whammie bar!!!!!....all lies...i tell you, where do you come up with this shit

  • personally, i like the Red Patent Leather Album. It's hard, gritty, and very New York ala the times.

  • leave Johansen alone. Saw him at the defunct blues club down in the Meat packing district. It was a great show and he signed my album with a crappy magic marker. guess he thought i was nut. this was before the Dolls reunion. Saw you again at the Seaport. Hope you lost those guitar players cause they just didn't get it. Saw Sylvain in Williamsburg & CBGBs. Not everbody is a fan my friends so if you like this stuf consider yourself among the cogniscenti.

  • i meant the backup band. not Sylvain in any way.

  • mclaren was an idiot for doing this. the fact that he tried to dress them like communists just ruined what little was left of there career by the time this footage was shot

  • Thanks for posting this. This live album, released in 1982, it's pretty much the third album by this great band, since most songs (Red Patent Leather, On Fire & Eddie Cochran's Something Else in this clip) are not on their 2 studio albums. It also happens to be my favourite of all their albums. The opening act for this show was Television, with Richard Hell still on bass. Regarding the comments: 1) Steve Jones' Les Paul was nicked from Bowie's Spiders 2) Footage from this gig is in All Dolled Up

  • History has written that jone's amp was stolen from Bowie, but Jones aquired his LP from Malcom via Sylvain.

  • was it any good?

  • ...this isn't from All Dolled Up. never seen it before.

  • Does anyone know what all this dolls footage is from? is it form All Dolled up?

  • i heard a rumour that the guitar sylvian is using in this clip is the same one used by steve jones when the pistols formed, given to him by maclaren?

  • I believe thats true

  • Whoever said the New York Dolls can't play suck!

  • I know! Jerry Nolan was a phenomenal drummer! Anyone who says differently has one chromosome too many!

  • This isn't freakin blues!! This is rock! They are the best rock band ever!

  • f yes

  • Harmonicas rule!

  • I LOVE RLP

  • is that the les paul steve jones ended up with?

  • That is the legend.

  • Thanks for posting this. Been my favourite Live Record for years.

  • fantastici..

  • I still have the recording of that show. I loved it then, I love it now.

  • I have had the cd for over 10 years. Never knew there was video of the same performance. The opening song rocks hard. Thanks for posting!

  • It just never meant to be perfect...but you had to be THERE!!!!!

I have never experienced the same thrill with any other concert after I saw them in 74!!...They were exactly as I thought they would be!!!! A BLAST with ATTITUDE!!!!!..DAMN FUCKING GREAT!!!!!!

  • The last shows where in FLA. They looked burned the fuck out.. Still cool to see.. and still a thousand times better than the "new" New York Dolls..

  • I know that David is mortified that the Dolls did that red leather crap.

  • theonlytruepunk is right... harmonicas have no place in rock and roll, ESPECIALLY if it's blues-based. i mean, there's just no precedent.

  • I really do not enjoy blues music either...I tried.

  • i hope thats a joke.

you really shouldn't give music advise( if it's not a joke) cause you don't know much.

  • oh, come on. the line about precedence should've given it away. ;)

  • ok good lol

    i was gonna say..

  • Hmmmm....Led Lep, The Dolls, The Stones, Aerosmith, The Beatles, Iggy, Black Sabbath have all used harmonicas.

    Me thinks you don't.

  • I agree with you, and I play harmonica, but I can't remember any Iggy or Stooges song with harmonica on it (but I don't know albums post Blah Blah Blah that well).. which Iggy song were you thinking of? Anyway, better examples of R&R with harmonicas would be (apart from Led Zep, The Stones & John Lennon) The Who, Dylan, Bowie, Lovin' Spoonful, The Doors, The Kinks, The Them, and The Yadbirds, since - as far as R&R is concerned - The Yardies' Keith Relf was the best harmonica player of them all..

  • There's harmonica on Open Up and Bleed and on Kill City.

  • That's not even The Stooges, Kill City came out as Iggy Pop & James Williamson, released long after it was done. Harmonica is not a typical trait of The Stooges' sound. They have celesta on Peneratrion, hence the celesta is a great part of their music? Tell me that when Scott Thurston was in the band he played harmonica live, if anything...

  • I said Iggy and it's on an Iggy album(a great lp at that). The celesta is a mega-cool part of Penetration. Thurston was playing the harmonica on the live stuff.

If you want to be a Stooges purist then Raw Power shouldn't count as Stooges to you. I love it all but to tell you the truth I like Raw Power most of all. For me it's all about James Williamson.

  • Fair enough. I don't think I'm a 'purist' of anything. To be it's all about R&R

  • stupid fucking Malcolm McLaren. fucking ruined the dolls.

  • thanks for posting up all of these good videos!

  • why is there no intro bass line. its great video but its not complete.

  • personally I think its a privilege to see it for me and everyone else, whether its perfect or not.

  • Never thought I would ever SEE this!

  • Call me crazy but...I had the Red Patent Leather Live at the Little Hippodrome 1975 cassette years agp and thought it rocked and wished they had recorded it in a studio as an album

  • i don't think it was all Malcolm's fault.

  • This could very well be their last show ever... Malcolm Mc Laren needs to burn in the most awful part of hell.

  • great stuff

  • It's on fire is a great song, I wish they'd do it again.

  • Thanks!

  • On Fire

  • What's the name of the Second Song they do? Anyone know?
