I am pretty happy with corporations desperately trying to stop whatever networks people have on the internet. It all started with their shutting down the Napster, thanks to them torrenting is invented.
Besides, there are still many people to willingly pay for stuff which matters enough to contribute like Louis CK making a million bucks in 12 days selling his own show on his own website for $5.
If you keep being a greedy asshole, you only get what you deserve at the end of the day, nothing.
The MPAA should rightfully sue people who upload their rips to torrent sites or redistribute them. Not sue people who bought the movie and then rip their movies to other formats for their own personal use.

I'm not paying for digital files. That's it. End of story. People have to be really, really dumb and not value money as they should if they think it's worth it. All this drama will be done ONLY when media industry finds a way around free distribution. Another way of getting their fat paychecks. Give me a real reason to buy it! Online features, physical features, SOMETHING. Because appeling to guilt, law or moral values is simply ineffective. You can deny it, delay it, but you can't stop it.
You're making the usual assumptions that leads to ridiculous claims like the industry losing 200% of it's gross profit in losses. There is no loss in copying data. The best you can claim is that someone that would have paid got it for free instead. That assumes that 1.) Pirates never purchase legitimate content from producers they enjoy, and 2.) They were willing to pay for it.
Listing a price next to something doesn't mean people owe you money. Deal with it.
I think every game in the world should have a "free-to-play" function that would work something like this;
Go to the website, download the game, install the game, play the FULL game (NOT a crappy demo) for free for half a day-two days (depending on length.), then lock it until they buy the full game. Nobody will ever "solve" piracy, so just make it pointless to pirate anything. If I had to choose where to download the game from, I'd rather get it from the company than a virus-ridden site...
That actually isn't a bad idea. The only problem with it though is that people in the gaming community will still find a way to crack open that half day-2 day limit. Which is probably why game devs just stick to the DRM bullshit.
@DawkinsForWeAreMany And have the means to fix it and achieve some righteousness. We are just doing it ourselves - as Fox and co. and Disney were.. And you seem to respect their achievements, therefore: if you respect these kinds of pirates, you should respect all new generation pirates. Peace.

People have never, ever stopped pirating music, movies and games all the way though the 80s, 90s, 00s and 10s. Today, blank media outsells recorded media by at least 10 to 1, and only 1% of blank media is used for legal purposes.
Result? The games, movies and music industries are bigger than ever. More money is made through them than ever before, there are 100 times as many people making video games today compared to when piracy first began, and they get paid better too.
Fuck those music producers, they make over tens and tens of millions, if 10% of people download, it wont' hurt. It's like you are making 10 million a year, instead you are going to make 9 million a year. POOR THING!!! fucking assholes, shove your dollars in your ass and die.
Completely stupid idea (downloading is stealing, sharing is helping stealing, personaly I download but I dont lie : I know that's stealing and I dont have the impudence to claim that downloading someone else's work should be a right).
@leancassady2 said "[...] I download but I dont lie : I know that's stealing [...]"
When you download stuff who did you deprive of property? Because that is the definition of 'stealing'. Use the proper terminology and stop lying. You know noting. Fuck off.
@newtubetubetube What I think he's referring to is the stealing of money. In the process of downloading something which is elsewhere sold in exchange for currency, you are stealing. He did use the proper terminology, and he was not lying. You know noting (sorry, nothing). In the most polite way possible, please fuck off.
@Awong000 Stealing is depriving someone of his possession. Stealing is bad not because the thief got something for free, but because the owner lost his stuff. Copying copyrighted contents over the Internet do not deprive anyone of anything.
Copyright violation is no theft and sharing is caring. No honest person is that impermeable to reason. You troll(or very stupid person), are the scum of the Internet. Just fuck off already.
@leancassady2 Of course not. The people who work for the "big evil company", as you put it, would of course be unhappy with their new salaries, and would have to either start a small entrepreneurship that can profit with fewer sales, and of course, they would save a lot of expenses by obtaining the same free product as everyone else. Eventually, the situation would stabilize in this manner, but the concept of marketing software and cultural (not physical) goods would be rendered obsolete.
propaganda video bs jews disinfo they alway censor comment or disable comment on their video they hate our freedom the jews own hollywood stop buy their video its the jew owner that make less money let bankrupt these scumbag they are ass to us
An accurate analogy for piracy would be like hiring a maid to clean your home and then not paying her. You didn't take anything tangible but you benefitted from a service without paying for it.
Just because it's not tangible doesn't mean it's not theft. When you buy a game you're paying for your right to play that game legally, you do not however own the idea that is in that game and it is not up to you to determine who to distribute it to.
@KevinBusomjack U dont buy just the right to use it, u are owner of the box, disk, and its content if u want to share it, they cant stop u. i can share my car, my house, my food, my knowledge, my feelings, my clothes, everything, even my fking wife... but i cant shre a videogame or a movie?? PURE BULLSHIT. They are even against u selling a game u bought legally!!! they want it all, next thing u will see will be. Xgame at only $70 + blowjob.
That box and disc is for your own private use. By buying it you did not obtain the right over the publisher to control it's means of distribution.
A video game for instance is not the same type of tangible product as a car or food, rather it's a for-profit service. If other people want to benefit from that service they have to pay for it to. You didn't create the game and you didn't pay for the rights to distribute it so therefore you don't have the right to just "share it."
@KevinBusomjack Why they have those special rules?? If I were in the food industrie i will say then, u cant share ur cake, if ur family members want cake they should buy 1 cake each. I sold u the right to eat the cake, i didnt sold u the recipe, the right to distribute it or the idea behind it so u cant do whatever u want with it, u just can eat it. That, my man is here and in every planet of this universe BULLSHIT.
@KevinBusomjack So I steal from game store's and video shops because by piracy you get viruses and problems even some CD key's do not work like Far Cry 2. I pirated it could not get online but I wanted so I walked down the shop to the game and key and walked out oh well I can't give a shit if they profited from it. I'd shoot a unborn baby if it meant something for my benefit some say I'm selfish I coulden't give a shit. They want protection go to Steam they want it stolen put in on shelves.
@KevinBusomjack Oh my good god I'm really sorry. Some weird stuff has been happening to my account and I'm starting to have suspicions that something is going on now after I just received an E-Mail from Google telling me that suspicious activity has been detected in my account. No I do not like piracy and no I do not support stealing I prefer good hard and honest work as you can find out from the two new videos I just uploaded. Do you have any advice to stop this. I got an B in English Lit.
@KevinBusomjack Why they have those special rules?? If I were in the food industrie i will say then, u cant share ur cake, if ur family members want cake they should buy 1 cake each. I sold u the right to eat the cake, i didnt sold u the recipe or the idea behind it so u cant do whatever u want with it, u just can eat it. BS
@KevinBusomjack Not true at all, you did take something from her, the time and effort she spent cleaning your home.
Now, I sort of see what you're getting at, "Game developers put time and effort into creating games!" so it's the same, right?
Wrong. My cleaner can only clean one house at a time. They produce *one* game and sell it 10'000'000 times. I have no qualms about taking a copy of something that's simply a mass-market publication. I know that enough people have bought it.
It could, but not all media on bittorrent has been stolen from a store. Perhaps someone purchased a music CD or DVD movie and allowed others to download it from them.
Its wierd tho...every fay u hear some rich ahole in a suit nag about how bad piracy is for their industry be it film/games or music, but the sales and income still rises or stays the same..meeh could just be that i am wrong and the dude in the suit rly is speaking the truth but then again he prob just want more money for his 11th convertible >_>
All of these sites will be shut down cabos, vuze, kaazaa, frostwire, luckywire, lemonwire, and many other sites like them, you people who use these programs are all thieves and you should be sued.I am supporting this fight against piracy. I will be assisting in obtaining IPs from all people who use these programs.I will visit youtube routinely to discover any new music/video piracy site you people post in the comments and we will have that site shut down.
@Keepskatin Good luck with that. Here, I'll give you two: I personally like to use The Pirate Bay or Demonoid for downloading movies and software. Although I often just rent DVDs and make copies since my internet connection is crap.
@Keepskatin It's not stealing if they just leave it wide open. It's like they're inviting you to use it by putting it out there like that. It's their responsibility to keep it secure. Not that it matters to me though since my neighbor happens to be my aunt and she's letting me use her connection.
@Keepskatin It seems you have never heard of the hydra before. All this mainly started with napster and once it was gone many new sources popped up. So go ahead and try to shut anything down. It has worked great against drugs.
There is one small problem with your plan though...If you are going to be collecting the ip of people then you must have a file that people are downloading which makes you a criminal.
@Keepskatin You see the problem is that unless you happen to be watching someones screen and taking pictures of the person using it then you have nothing. You will also have to be sharing content that is protected by copyrights. Without sharing protected content it will be insanely difficult to do such things without breaking federal law and attacking the users.
You however might think it is fine to commit a felony to stop people from committing a misdemeanor.
@hinro If the files exist on your computer that is all the evidence needed. If your ip address was recorded using a piracy program that is all the evidence needed. All music is copyright protected even if you buy the cd and burn the files to your computer, the copyright laws still apply to those files, even if your computer list them as unprotected files. Post an artist song on any youtube video and watch youtube remove the audio from that video because copyright protection apply to all media.
@Keepskatin Having the file is quite easy to hide on external drives or encrypted partitions. Being able to find the file would be a real bitch.
You didn't answer my question. I asked how do you intend to get a p2p ip without sharing an illegal file? Sure you could try collecting some numbers based on searching but then you have a massive problem of proving those search results are real which can only be done via downloading or uploading.
p2p software is not illegal in any way shape or form.
@hinro The best solution is to clip you thieves at the root, for every site that pops up,I'll dedicate my free time to having it shut down;I'm insanely persistent like that. If a site doesn't become popular then finding your precious stolen files would be very difficult. The only way for your site to become popular is to spread the world on youtube, and other social sites. This is where I come in and discover the sites you idiots post, then report it for shut down.
@Keepskatin Once again bitchstick you refuse to answer a simple question. Is it that hard to answer my question? Perhaps you don't want to answer because you simply don't know.
But alright I'll help you out by listing a few sites and lets see just what can you do. Megaupload - rapidshare - mononova - meganova - bit unity - torrentz - demonoid - and lastly the mack daddy of them all, the unsinkable ship: The Pirate Bay.
@Mathenaut In some countries the isp providers have blocked access to pirate bay website, and that is exactly what we need done in the U.S. Some companies were conspiring to create DDOS attacks against pirate bay; I'm ok with that too. We must defeat piracy by any means necessary, but if you get caught the government will deny all knowledge of you and your purpose, you're on your own. If we can't stop piracy in foereign countries we must prevent our citizens from accessing those sites.
The hell kind of overbearing fascism are you promoting here? Denying access to TPB will only rally people behind other sites, since you're so freely stepping on people's rights over something so frivolous.
There is a problem when your devotion to the marginal gain of corporations will freely lead you down the road of oppression and censorship. You won't win that fight.
@Mathenaut Pay no mind to bitchstick down there. They like to talk a lot of shit but they have no understanding of how torrents or p2p in general work. If they did then they would know already that TPB can be duplicated on mass in a couple hours since they have switched to magnet linking.
In their attempts to kill piracy they have made it impossible to kill without destroying the human species. Even without the internet piracy will still thrive while destroying the economy of the world.
@Keepskatin I'm waiting bitchstick.Yeaha go ahead and ddos them. That will work for a couple hours and then you go to prison and get assraped.
Go ahead and block TPB. It won't change anything at all. It will only cause a couple seconds delay that it takes to switch to a proxy. And just for fun lets assume the blocking also hits proxies well then you have a real problem because well there are a lot more of them than you and a couple million people launching a ddos attack is a bit scary.
@Keepskatin K It's been a week and as suspected you have gotten nothing done. It's sad really. You are supposedly spending all your free time on this and nothing is coming of it. You may want to get a new hobby.
Imagine you spent 2 years and thousand of dollars making a game and somebody copies it and gives it away for free, you aren't making money for hours of agonizing work, people are enjoying your product that you intended to make money off but you aren't. That is just taking food out your mouth and prying the roof from over your head, no wonder why our economy sucks.
@NoOdL3z18 Any game which a bunch of people download, a bunch of other people buy. If it's an indie game, chances are it won't even be available to download since it's so obscure, and people will have to buy it. There aren't as many profits lost as it's made out to be.
The exception is when you have plenty of storage and forget you downloaded something. In that case, it may be just laying dormant until you have to clean up your storage.
@joshuaissac Quotes are the arguments employed by those who are too retarded to actually make up something smart to say themselve. And of course im in the wrong im not agreeing with you damn it. You're just as wrong for me as I am wrong for you so why the hell are you even replying ?!?!
@Mathenaut The success is the independent variable and the spread of piracy is the dependent one. What if, one day, piracy disappeared? It would not make the digital industry disappear along with it. Any boosts (from exposure through piracy) lost would be compensated for by people buying the products.
On the other hand, if the music/film/gaming industry disappeared, piracy would cease to exist (except for piracy of clothes,ships,...). So piracy is not contributing to the success.
That isn't sound logic. Promoting growth of the industry doesn't mean that the industry is based upon piracy. That doesn't even make sense. Likewise, taking away piracy doesn't mean that profits for the industry will increase either. Fact is, if people don't think your product is worth enough to buy then they aren't going to buy. That much isn't going to change.
The best you can claim is the margin of people that would buy, but pirate instead. That is a very small margin.
If you download a game and play the Single Player mode, u probably think it's awsome as hell, then u look at a gameplay with the game online, and you think that is even more awsome ! And then u buy it, and its awsome as fuck !
@j011e not anymore at least, less games actually have servers now and force you to be connected to the internet even to play single player. It is because pirating causes companies to lose money, nobody is paying for their work. Now sales are dropping more because legitimate customers feel incriminated by these new precautions.
You can buy books. After that, you can do anything you want with them. Want to give a few to your friend for free? Go ahead, those are YOUR private property and you decide what to do with it.
I get it, its a bit different with music. But musicians still earn shitons of money in concerts/awards/etc
I don't see how the "working middle class that earns nothing for their work" complains about a person that sings and earns billions. Does it contribute to society? If it does, it is very little.
100s is at the top end of the scale. GTA IV cost $100 million to make. The community gets buggy console ports because PC as a business model is unattractive. Imagine competing with a business that offers the same product with no cost to themselves, and sells it for $0. Obviously, u can't compete. Release delays are deliberate to stop people who own both platforms from choosing the "free" option. We need to make it worth dev's whiles to make pc exclusives again, it isn't atm.
"Piracy is ok because they make lots of money anyway, and I wouldn't buy it otherwise."
Worst excuse ever. In the gaming industry, this is a huge problem. Games cost hundreds of millions to make. Next time you see gaming credits, multiply every name you see by 60,000 and then multiply that by the number of years it took to make the game. That's JUST the salary btw, not to mention all the other costs. consoles sell at a 5:1 ratio and we wonder why our pc games are getting worse. it's your fault.
@tarinhalad 100s of millions for video game is far too excessive maybe $10 million for the development. And as for PC games i think the community is fed up with buggy console ports which get released x years later because microsoft or w,e wanted to milk xbox 360 sales and made it a temporary exclusive. GTA ring a bell? How about alan wake? that game was in development for 5 years primarily to showcase quad core processors and DX10 gaming and at the last minute M$ scrapped PC and made it 360 exc.
lol ALL anti piracy commercial I have seen suck major ass balls, this is was first time I saw an piracy commercial and it was awesome. I think its a sign.
jesus, the way the cookie and the gingerbread man just magically repair themselves is fantastic! You could almost believe that it took no work at all to make the gingerbread man and that no-one was losing any moneys from the sharing and caring everyone gets up to. gimme a break. do this enough and the cookies will start getting pretty crap...
Apparently all these children who defend piracy aren't old enough to understand that an industry is not the same thing as a charity since the former runs on money.
Contrary to popular belief, people are not making games/movies/music out of the goodness of their heart.
i love internet communism! that's the only way that government works :) why? because people can't share physical objects without conflict... look all the wars that happen over oil and resources. all i got to say
@SirAustinPowers but cookies are food and food is necessity. Movies, music and softwares are not necessary for us to live. So your statement should go like...
"If I steal a piece of jewelry and share it with the other poor guys while the already rich jeweler sells it for i dunno 500 bucks, who's the badass?"
Oh that makes perfect sense. So if I work providing a non-tangible service say such as personal training and my client chooses not to pay me after he's benefitted from my service that wouldn't be stealing either since nothing was actually "taken away."
You know if you go to a Gamestop and buy a game you're not buying the master copy. You're just getting a copy of that game and more can be made so I guess according to you, walking out a gamestop without paying isn't stealing
@hejhejhejhej287 In the case of most piracy, the person takes a game, it's more or less theft because you're stealing a developers content without paying a cent.
@Prozzakification Well getting those statistics is a bit difficult, lets put it this way, if you have enough money to buy a nice 1000 dollar PC gaming rig that can play the games, you can afford the games.
The impact seems to be over hyped to me, if the music i got wasn't free i wouldn't get so much music. I still pay to go to concerts and music i really like i will buy the CD for the novelty of having it. Piracy is a big thing right now and i see no impact on the artist of today.
When you steal (music) anything the God of holiness will judge you. You conscience is hardened. This is truth. Your judgment is blinded. The Devil owns part of your soul. You hide in the darkness and live a lie.

Awong000 1 month ago
@Awong000 Stealing is depriving someone of his possession. Stealing is bad not because the thief got something for free, but because the owner lost his stuff. Copying copyrighted contents over the Internet do not deprive anyone of anything.
Copyright violation is no theft and sharing is caring. No honest person is that impermeable to reason. You troll(or very stupid person), are the scum of the Internet. Just fuck off already.

Piracy = Your car is still there, it's just that I have one now.
It's not stealing, per say, it's just cutting from the profits of the company that I would be paying.

So "the big evil company" just have to sell one DVD and everybody would be happier, right ?
leancassady2 9 months ago
@leancassady2 Of course not. The people who work for the "big evil company", as you put it, would of course be unhappy with their new salaries, and would have to either start a small entrepreneurship that can profit with fewer sales, and of course, they would save a lot of expenses by obtaining the same free product as everyone else. Eventually, the situation would stabilize in this manner, but the concept of marketing software and cultural (not physical) goods would be rendered obsolete.

KevinBusomjack 11 months ago
@KevinBusomjack U dont buy just the right to use it, u are owner of the box, disk, and its content if u want to share it, they cant stop u. i can share my car, my house, my food, my knowledge, my feelings, my clothes, everything, even my fking wife... but i cant shre a videogame or a movie?? PURE BULLSHIT. They are even against u selling a game u bought legally!!! they want it all, next thing u will see will be. Xgame at only $70 + blowjob.
lmchucho 11 months ago 16
@lmchucho

@KevinBusomjack So I steal from game store's and video shops because by piracy you get viruses and problems even some CD key's do not work like Far Cry 2. I'd shoot a unborn baby if it meant something for my benefit some say I'm selfish I coulden't give a shit. They want protection go to Steam they want it stolen put in on shelves.

@Keepskatin Good luck with that. Here, I'll give you two: I personally like to use The Pirate Bay or Demonoid for downloading movies and software. Although I often just rent DVDs and make copies since my internet connection is crap.
elviswjr 1 year ago
@elviswjr Your internet is crap because you don't pay for it,stop stealing your neighbors wifi.
Keepskatin 1 year ago
@Keepskatin It's not stealing if they just leave it wide open. It's like they're inviting you to use it by putting it out there like that. It's their responsibility to keep it secure. Not that it matters to me though since my neighbor happens to be my aunt and she's letting me use her connection.
elviswjr 1 year ago
@Keepskatin So why is the Pirate Bay still alive and thriving?
joshuaissac 1 year ago
@Keepskatin It seems you have never heard of the hydra before. All this mainly started with napster and once it was gone many new sources popped up. So go ahead and try to shut anything down. It has worked great against drugs.
There is one small problem with your plan though...If you are going to be collecting the ip of people then you must have a file that people are downloading which makes you a criminal.
Damn another problem: finding the person to sue.
hinro 1 year ago
@Keepskatin You see the problem is that unless you happen to be watching someones screen and taking pictures of the person using it then you have nothing. You will also have to be sharing content that is protected by copyrights. Without sharing protected content it will be insanely difficult to do such things without breaking federal law and attacking the users.
You however might think it is fine to commit a felony to stop people from committing a misdemeanor.
hinro 1 year ago
@hinro If the files exist on your computer that is all the evidence needed. If your ip address was recorded using a piracy program that is all the evidence needed. All music is copyright protected even if you buy the cd and burn the files to your computer, the copyright laws still apply to those files, even if your computer list them as unprotected files. Post an artist song on any youtube video and watch youtube remove the audio from that video because copyright protection apply to all media.
Keepskatin 1 year ago
@Keepskatin Having the file is quite easy to hide on external drives or encrypted partitions. Being able to find the file would be a real bitch.
You didn't answer my question. I asked how do you intend to get a p2p ip without sharing an illegal file? Sure you could try collecting some numbers based on searching but then you have a massive problem of proving those search results are real which can only be done via downloading or uploading.
p2p software is not illegal in any way shape or form.
hinro 1 year ago
@hinro The best solution is to clip you thieves at the root, for every site that pops up,I'll dedicate my free time to having it shut down;I'm insanely persistent like that. If a site doesn't become popular then finding your precious stolen files would be very difficult. The only way for your site to become popular is to spread the world on youtube, and other social sites. This is where I come in and discover the sites you idiots post, then report it for shut down.
Keepskatin 1 year ago
@Keepskatin Once again bitchstick you refuse to answer a simple question. Is it that hard to answer my question? Perhaps you don't want to answer because you simply don't know.
But alright I'll help you out by listing a few sites and lets see just what can you do. Megaupload - rapidshare - mononova - meganova - bit unity - torrentz - demonoid - and lastly the mack daddy of them all, the unsinkable ship: The Pirate Bay.
You got a week. get busy.

Keepskatin 1 year ago
@Keepskatin
Mathenaut 1 year ago
@Mathenaut Pay no mind to bitchstick down there. They like to talk a lot of shit but they have no understanding of how torrents or p2p in general work. If they did then they would know already that TPB can be duplicated on mass in a couple hours since they have switched to magnet linking.
In their attempts to kill piracy they have made it impossible to kill without destroying the human species. Even without the internet piracy will still thrive while destroying the economy of the world.
hinro 1 year ago
@Keepskatin I'm waiting bitchstick.Yeaha go ahead and ddos them. That will work for a couple hours and then you go to prison and get assraped.
Go ahead and block TPB. It won't change anything at all. It will only cause a couple seconds delay that it takes to switch to a proxy. And just for fun lets assume the blocking also hits proxies well then you have a real problem because well there are a lot more of them than you and a couple million people launching a ddos attack is a bit scary.

Piracy has been alive and well for generations, yet the music, movie, and gaming industry has continued to expand and thrive.
There is a correlation between the spread of piracy and the success of the industry. You'll need more than cheap rhetoric to combat that fact.
Mathenaut 1 year ago
@Mathenaut The success is the independent variable and the spread of piracy is the dependent one. What if, one day, piracy disappeared? It would not make the digital industry disappear along with it. Any boosts (from exposure through piracy) lost would be compensated for by people buying the products.
On the other hand, if the music/film/gaming industry disappeared, piracy would cease to exist (except for piracy of clothes,ships,...). So piracy is not contributing to the success.
joshuaissac 1 year ago
@joshuaissac

@j011e not anymore at least, less games actually have servers now and force you to be connected to the internet even to play single player.

We need to make it worth dev's whiles to make pc exclusives again, it isn't atm.
tarinhalad 1 year ago
"Piracy is ok because they make lots of money anyway, and I wouldn't buy it otherwise."
Worst excuse ever. In the gaming industry, this is a huge problem. Games cost hundreds of millions to make. Next time you see gaming credits, multiply every name you see by 60,000 and then multiply that by the number of years it took to make the game. That's JUST the salary btw, not to mention all the other costs. consoles sell at a 5:1 ratio and we wonder why our pc games are getting worse. it's your fault.
tarinhalad 1 year ago
@tarinhalad 100s of millions for video game is far too excessive maybe $10 million for the development. And as for PC games i think the community is fed up with buggy console ports which get released x years later because microsoft or w,e wanted to milk xbox 360 sales and made it a temporary exclusive. GTA ring a bell? How about alan wake? that game was in development for 5 years primarily to showcase quad core processors and DX10 gaming and at the last minute M$ scrapped PC and made it 360 exc.
