As an Indian myself and being a great JapanHolic, as I love everything about the Japanese culture, including anime, manga, enka, Jrock\Visual Kei,etc... I feel that manga and anime need to be more exposed to our Indian society. I feel conducting anime meets as well as most importantly cosplays and various anime competitions will help bring a lot of Indians to love anime.
im a new indian otaku (watched 74 animes in 8 months)...gives up on TV, the good stuff is getting band in Tokyo..so just watch online and about ur eng dub.......WTF thats horrible, just watch it in jap dub with eng subs( i doubt there many hindi subs anywhere)
I got into anime and manga when I was 6. I started demanding manga and my parents hardly had any idea about what I wanted. As I grew up I got a few websites to read from. But I was still interested in looking out for manga in the Indian market. I visited a few bookstores like Landmark, Crossword etc. I found just 5 or 6 that were very expensive. Well, we need publishers who can produce manga at low prices so that they can bought at the nearest bookstore or something like that.

@forgottenmemories63 thanks a lot, I found videos about "history of prince ram", that suit quite well what I was looking for! The language does not matter, because I will use it for music clips!
@Aryeztur I watched what you said, it is definitly closer to san seya than to what i was expecting from "indian" graphics, although I must admit the story is clearly linked to indian mythology. And as I said, what counts for me is the graphics, as I am looking for sources for music clips!
As an Indian hoping to be a manga/anime artist in the future, I hope to make something that will turn more heads from India and beyond. Although I live in the U.S, I would love to expand the typical formula for anime characters to include more diversity. Wish me luck :)
By the way, question to you people, I am searching endlessly now for an anime that would feature indian characters, or indian myths, precisely. I know of Osamu Tezuka's "Buddha", but it has never been adapted to anime, and so I am looking for something like that...thanks!
@hireegy I think Indian Mythology's Epic - "Ramayana" was made in a unique Japanese Anime styled theme and was released in many Indian Languages and English. I'm sure the Hindi version of it is on Youtube, but not sure about the English version of it. I could never find an English dubbed version of "Ramayana" Anime on Youtube even though I'm sure an English version of it exists and it was aired on T.V here.
@hireegy This is a series called Rg Veda based on the stories of Vedic devas. I've never read or watched it so I don't know how it is but it was pretty popular.
Guys plz join anime clubs of ur cities . ( many big city like delhi . mumbie already have there clubs on orkut and face book site so plz support these )
FOr example DAC (delhi anime community ) already done upto 7 Anime meet sucessfully but they need more members )
Manga and Anime have a potential to create a huge market for themeselves out here but unfortunately Indian families tend to be orthodox and wudn't like us to read stuff where teens are seen romancing each other...and yeah they won't spend hundreds for a single volume and rather buy us a Tinkle for Rs 30......lolz
Yea, the rates have increased (about Rs 50 per mag.) but stuff like Tinkle are nowhere close to japanese manga.
Jeez! seriously.....when the heck will ppl out here grow up. In terms of geography, we're closer to japan as compared to the west, yet anime/manga fans are like an extinct species out here
@Surabhi931231 yah but Japan is more connected economically to the U.S and far westernized than we are. Just look how advanced Tokyo has become. Plus if you consider the map as a globe, the U.S west coast is just a Pacific ocean away, so it's not too far off. Despite all that, as an Indian in the U.S, I really like manga/anime and I hope to be a manga artist when I grow up. I'm planning to study in Tokyo soon to be one step closer to going where I want to go :) Hope India gets there too :)
...wen i was in india...animax didnt hav any of the gud animes T-T...lik it was sooo bad!! i was so sad that i culdn't watch naruto! (and i culdn't watch online, cuz it wuld cost my uncle)...but yea...dey better get better anime now -.-...Naruto shuld b on animax soon!!! if they have bleach, they shuld definately have naruto! <3~
there already is , Ramayana and RG Vedas , by the way Shonen Mowgli ( the one called Jungle Book here with the theme song "Jungle Jungle pata chala hei" ) was the first anime hit here .
The plural of anime is still "anime" not "animes".
It's a pretty common misconception .
I doubt if many people are aware that in japanese, plurals are same as singulars. Same goes for mangas errr...I mean manga as well. These words are like "money", "entertainment" or "people" , they don't have a plural form

We have to make anime and manga more popular and widely available throughout india.
if this means placing the story in a specifically indian cultural/historical context then that's fine.
I think India can embrace anime and manga, as well as the rest of the world, as the most dominant form of animation.

thats right, they have developed into many varities and generes but tinkle and other are still serving childish things
manga like death note rocks but unfortunately such stories are not made in india as same bunch of "goodness " impose our films , serials and stories
india ppl should try something different
