  • a propósito ! essa música é uma verdadeira MEEERDA !! sou mais COLDPLAY ! FLW !

  • you want to spend time even right? haha know that analyzing the melody, I realized that it is very similar to the music of Lulu! Listen sauhaushasuha - (the last romantic - lulu)

since you like to waste time, give a listen to this music over there and realize that is really similar

  • This song was the inspiration for me to become a musician!!!!

  • The chords used for these songs is common and it's used a lot for pop music. No one stole from no one.

Joe Satriani was an attention seeking idiot for suing. So were the Creaky Boards. Again, this is a very common chord in popular music.

  • Absolutely my Fav Cat song,, Have it on Vinyl !! And now on I tunes . Brilliant song , and 18 minutes long. Pure class.

  • Except, the part in this song is A MINOR.

Viva La Vida is in Ab MAJOR!

  • a master piece,,,,,,,,,,,♥♥♥♥

  • Coldplay Viva la Vida is much better than the Joe Satriani, but this is arguably better than both of them.

  • @Salmon0fKnowledge Only a true idiot would say Coldplay's is better than Satriani. You must be one.

  • seems like all crap till 3:40, same with joe satriani, most of it was crap but the part that sounds like cold play, no insult to the guys there talented, but thats from my perspective

  • Thanks for uploading; best parts of a beautiful song.

  • It has the same melody as the other tracks of the ''Coldplay plagiarism case''.

    So double plagiarism? :')

Bullshit, this doesn't look like Coldplay's Viva La Vida.

  • it also is (mostly) the same chords as bad romance by lady gaga

  • no se como a 3 personas no les puede gustar esta cancion... les gusta justin bieber o que, oir a cat stevens es como oir a los rolling stones, bueno no tanto ;)

  • Love could never be enough. Beautiful.

  • FILHO DA PUTA! ISSO NÃO TEM NADA A VER COM VIVA LA VIDA!!! VIVA LA VIDA É 10000000000 MELHOR!

    COLDPLAY 4EVER!

  • aside from the fact that Stevens is a soft-brained chucklehead? That he wore a swastika in 1973? Supported the fatwa against Salman Rushdie? This sounds as much like Coldplay as Motley Crue does. He's an anti-semite and and schmuck, too, by the way.

  • It sounds more like Take on Me (A -Ha) than Viva la Vida, tho.

  • thanks very much . A masterpiece. What a great voice, and a excelent performing.

  • VIVA LA FUCKING VIDA. Unequal melody. Mislabeled chords. Boom goes the fucking dynamite! ...jk

  • Cat Stevens é fenomenal, parabens cara!

  • 3:40 is where the similarity begins

  • Riesce sempre a commuovermi

  • Let's stop comparing this to an overrated Coldplay song and just enjoy Cat Stevens, okay?

  • anyone looking to hear the bit thats remotely similar to coldplays song go to 3:40 onwards

  • His master piece, there is no better way to capture Love then how he did it.

  • In what minute and second does it sound like Viva La Vida?

  • What a beautiful song from a beautiful person :)

  • when someone copies music you look at the chords they play, not if one song is the same instrument, sounds better, etc. From 3:38 the chords are the EXACT same as vida la vida. Also look at Joe Satriani's If I could Fly. He plays the EXACT same chords that coldplay used in vida la vida. On the flip-side though many musicians borrow from one another...

  • @321robbie321

yea. in cp's new song they hae the same chords as i go to rio

  • @321robbie321 Or perhaps it could just be a COINCIDENT!

  • Comment removed

  • the mnusic is not even good, sounds nothing like viva la vida, and coldplay is much better.

  • @llucasmaia you must be sick

  • his voice is so special.oh love sweet blue love. Magical. Nobody can sing like cat stevens

  • his voice is so special.oh love sweet blue love. Magical

  • 3:37 is where is starts

  • It doesnt sound that much like it

  • much better than viva la vida

  • @SachaTheEvilOne not a bit

  • i think this is one of my fave songs by him.. i need to find this sheetmusic!!!

  • 5 stars! is the best!

  • I too am a die hard fan of this exquisite song, especially the section around and including Freedom Calling and the endlessly resonant climax!

  • ...viva la vida that's true!!!

  • 3:33 is the viva la vida

  • mr. catstevensdiehardfan i want to take this moment to personaly thank you for al the great cat/yusuf video's you posted here it's really great to know such great cat fan's exist.

also i would like to thank the people who watch cat/yusuf video's and prefer them above lady gaga, what proves there are still people with a GOOD musical taste

also really like the part after 3:33 it's one of the best cat moments

  • one of my favorite songs omg

  • people who say it doesnt sound like viva la vida are expecting it to sound EXACTLY like viva la vida. but if you dont hear the strong similarities....then your def.

try from 3:35 and onward. That has to ring a bell. im trying to accuse coldplay cause i love 'viva la vida', but the similarity is impossible to miss. ahha

  • @robhartjr123

I was skeptic but it's true, 3:35 and onward

Indeed, not exactly the same but real simularities, maybe coldplay was inspired by this

  • LOVE LOVE LOVE, LORD MUST OF MADE U ON A SUNDAY

  • People say the end sounds like Viva la vida. I DON'T HEAR IT. You probably want to hear it, and fill it in with your mind subconsciously. I've heard viva la vida too many times (it's my favorite song) and know just about every aspect chord and note in there. This just doesn't sound like Viva La Vida.

  • It doesn't sound like Viva la Vida because it sounds like it was written by a real songwriter and not some overgrown sixformer.

  • @R0undAboutMidnight It's easy to be a solo act. Incredibly hard to be a group. Get over your opinion.

  • @Rifalltoo Hm, I would have said it was harder being a solo act, since you have to be the sole creative source.

  • @R0undAboutMidnight You don't have to be the sole creative source. You can easily hire some friends or pro song writers to help you with your stuff, and then sing it any way you want. And when you mess up solo, nobody really notices unless it's a big mess up. When you mess up singing or playing in a group, people WILL notice.

  • The piano portion at the end is similar to viva la vida, the lyrics are nothing alike. I think out of the millions of songs people have played thoughtout the years its impossible not to have some words or melodies that aren't similar.

  • Okay so it does actually sound like Viva la Vida...but then again, doesn't Satriani's song sound like this too? So shouldn't he have been upset at Joe thinking and have thought about suing him also? I am just sorta lost on that...maybe it is because Viva la Vida is more famous than any of their songs...

  • it doesn't really sound like "viva la vida"

  • They're both magnificent different songs =D

  • at 3:36 it does definitely start sounding a little like viva la vida but I am pretty confident it was coincidental.

  • I haven't heard this piece in over 30 years, a simple example of Yusuf's genius and talent. I'd love to drink a cup of tea with him and talk about life and this issue with Cold Play that had brought his music back to me again.

  • I heard the whole song and i gotta say...

It doesn't even was close to sound like Viva La Vida.

  • However doesn't see resemblance start to listen from the 3:33 then focus on 4:48 through the end, if you still can't figure it out, you're probably shallow or tone deaf!!

  • @willgadall yeah i see it now

  • @willgadall

That part sounds like Five for Fighting's 100 years to me...I might be tone deaf...I probably am, but I can't hear Viva La Vida.

  • @willgadall I can hear it

  • Wow! That guitar! That Voice... nothing to do with Coldplay... Cat Stevens... is by faaaaar so much better and more honest and passionate.... I love the part of : The moment you fell inside my dreams... wow... he's is beautiful... I'm in love... :)

  • @carosupersonic Coldplay is much much much better than that stupid cat

  • beautiful.....absolutely beautiful....

  • regardless of the alleged similarities with viva la vida, i just realized that starting at 3.30, is it actually the same song as heaven/where true love goes in yusuf's an other cup album!

  • its the second part at 5:30

  • does not sound anything like Viva La Vida.

  • @melovetorun igts an 18 minute song there is one part that doess

  • @melovetorun It does a bit, if you listen to the part that starts at 3:40. Just like the main riff in Satriani's song. But I think it's possible, believe it or not, that both occurrences actually *weren't* intentional by Coldplay. They are all very creative people, and I believe in a "collective consciousness" where ideas are floating around and I've seen it before where an idea I've had was picked up (in its EXACT form) by someone else I didn't know. LOL Total truth! LOL

  • @melovetorun Yeah, I'm not hearing it.

  • @melovetorun the similarity doesn't begin until about 14:30 on the 18 minute track...so yeah, you wouldn't hear it yet.

  • @melovetorun u didnt listen to the hole song did u u retard

  • @streets1390 Fuck you.

  • @melovetorun

3:33 is the viva la vida

  • @ForeignerSuiteLover No it's not. Coldplay's song sounds better. I am a Viva La VidaLover.PERIOD.

  • @melovetorun

sounds better is a matter of opinion, PERIOD. i think viva la vida sounds better too, but i have no respect for the song or coldplay for that matter.

  • @melovetorun skip to 3:37

  • @melovetorun I agree in you in that..it may not sound like viva la vida but if you start listening carefully at 3:38 you will see that it0s a little bit similar to the beggininf of viva la vida..

  • @melovetorun because the part that Coldplay copied is the end of the song not this part LOL ...

  • Viva La Vida is an epic masterpice created by Coldplay. Something like that can't be copied. The kind of people that hate Coldplay are hip hoppers, teeny bops, country hicks and old piece of shits that listen to biker bar trailer trash music.

  • @melovetorun I enjoy Coldplay very much . :)

  • @melovetorun So True, there is a lot of things totally different. COLDPLAY is Better

  • who cares who copied who

    mabey it was a coincidence

also all 3 of those songs are very good

thats what songs are, they are supposed to be listened by people and to be enjoyed

  • Yah I can hear the similarities as well.

  • I don't get why of all songs they thought it was similar to THIS...I mean...why is it that no one's every brought up that Viva la Vida's lyric/melody for when they sing 'but that was when I ruled the world' sounds VERY similar to Ne-Yo's 'Single' melody 'cause I'm your boyfriend til this song goes out'...? they were both recorded around the same time, so it's kind of...unclear.....hrmm...

  • Respond to this video...Have had good old Budha and Chocolate Box on my turntable for days now ,and although alot of my favorite Catracks are on it.This would be the Pinnacle Catrack 4 this cat in about twenty minutes im gonna grab a bottle of ripple whine outta my uncles basement turn my apartment size fireplace on lay a blanket down on the living room rug go find this album then make sweet love to my wife with my groovey Cat Stevens picnic:~)

  • a kick ass song

  • sounds more like Satriani than Coldplay.

  • @yonskii this was written before Satriani :)

  • where is the best part man??? YES ALL ARE LOOKING FOR FREEDOM BUT THERE ARE TO MANY TO LEAD THEM AWAY FUNKY SYNTH SOLO ETC

  • Comment removed

  • 3:35 onward but i think it was definitely unintentional by coldplay

  • Yusuf added that he has forgiven Coldplay and would love to sit down and have a cup of tea with them.

  • @ComradeKirill WOW, you can read wikipedia too! SO COOL!

  • I used to rule the world, now i sweep the steets that i used to own

  • What a song......*****

  • my god! yusef islam didnt make some massive deal out of it, they asked him about the satriani thing in an interview, and basicly said 'actually its probably copied off my song the foreigner suite'

thats all he said! he is not whining and he has barely spoken about the whole thing

  • So what BOZOS it's GREAT and that's

    what really matters.

Why don't you BOZOS write some music

stolen or otherwise and post it?>

    Chicken?

JM at wakkitahibida on You Tube

I will be waiting (Probably forever) to hear your Great song. Please feel free to use this chord progression in a novel way if you can (I doubt it!) also ,Listen to the band FOCUS if you can and see if your BRAIN WORKS RIGHT THEN!

    GOOD luck BOZOS!

    JM

  • god i hate u

  • Why do you hate God?

  • @XIXNayRXIX god doesn't exist Lmao

  • @SadisticAbductive Twas a joke.

  • @SadisticAbductive There is a God.

  • For you r tards that don't know anything about music... nowadays its kind of hard to be 100% original with songs, especially when it is 4 simple chords! Come on I'm sure Cat Stevens isn't even the first person to come up with this. The vocal melody of Viva La Vida sounds nothing like this song and that's what matters.

  • On the coldplay fuss at the end of the day the question boils down to do you think viva la vida shouldnt not exist because the material it allegedly copies is enough, better or much the same? I for one dont think so.

  • As Woodie Guthrie says, "Oh he just steals from me, but I steal from everyone."

  • I always wondered by the Coldplay song sounded so familiar.. ah, it's been done a dozen times before, that's why!

  • Coldplay stealded it.

  • really. stealded?

    ur an idiot.

  • 4:20 is when it begins. But even so, the lyrics of Viva la Vida are what attracted me, not so much the tune. I believe they adapted it in a way that speaks beyond the original context for the new song's theme of a fallen royal.

Even Weird Al makes entertainment off of previous tunes but adds all new lyrics to make something funny.

Viva la Vida is almost all its own.

True enough, if they were [the word is "inspired" people] then Coldplay should admit it. But it's still a cool song!

  • Well, Weird Al does parody, which is allowed under copyright laws.

I'm a huge Cat Stevens fan, and similarities between Foreigner Suite and Viva la Vida never occurred to me, but yeah. I can hear it. Still, I doubt it was plagiarized. Like Cat himself said, that melody follows naturally from the chord structure.

  • @shinyunderbelly Exactly, and it's just one segment from a whole song, plus even if it's reinterpreted, it's all its own such that even a Cat Stevens fan like yourself isn't offended. Didn't Cat say once that it's just coincidence or inspiration these days?

  • its the second half of the song that sounds kinda like viva, but in the end it doesnt matter even Cat stevens laughed it off :P

  • no where near close!nothing like it!

  • Opsss!!!

from 3:25 on seems like the same melody, same line...

    Humpf

  • its close to viva la vida: but not enough to say plagiarism:

satriani though does have a solid case. though viva la vida really sounds more like alizee "im fed up".

anyways this song is actually pretty good

  • His voice is incredible!!

  • long live the great Yusuf Islam !!!!!

  • i recall once hear coldplays guitarist saying he was a huge joe satriani fan,Joe satrians taught steve vai how to play guitar, and is great in his owe right , so wow ,crazy

  • Cat Stevens does not have to sue anyone for money ,he's richer than coldplay could ever imagine,it is not about cash ,these sort of law suits occur every month ,most are just settled before they make it to court, even if it is by chance they songs are similar , if one use anothers copy righted parts ,oh well. lol

  • I wonder if Cat Stevens is going to sue Joe Satriani?

  • coldplay didnt steal it..

  • i think both lawsuits are bull... everyone uses everyone elses chords... who cares? its just music.... even though music is the best thing ever created... and it should be proven that no one can live without it.... its not such a big deal

  • This song is beautiful. I'm glad I found it.

No worries for Coldplay. Justice will prevail and Coldplay will get off scott free, as they deserve.

I see a SLIGHT resemblance to the part Stevens is accusing Coldplay of stealing. Its this kind of bouncing rhythm that appears at 3:37.

The fact that you can perceive this bouncy rhythm in Satriani's song, Steven's song, and the Creaky Board's song must mean that this is just one of those universal, primordial, paradigmatic, rhythms...

  • suing is modern day greed, suing is anger and jealousy, would God really want feelings like that. All he has to do is say it sounds like not suing them, its childish and jealous because Viva la vida is much bigger then foreigner. It is a good song and sounds a little bit like it, but not to much.

  • he never said he was going to sue them. It does sound pretty close though. same chords this just played with a happier feel.

  • you serious just alittle part that sounds like viva la vida but this has nothing to do with the coldplay both songs sound different they say diferent shit this guy should just leave them alone

  • publicity stunt maybe?

  • If Cat Stevens beleaves in god then he would leave coldplay alone and not sue them, he is just jealous because viva la vida is bigger then anything he has done in years.

  • wrong.

  • What does believing in God have to do with alleged copywrite infringements?

  • Wow, you're an incredible debater. Go listen to some Radiohead or the Killers and let the adult comment in this page.

  • @tsw5014

    Radiohead are awesome, stfu

  • @tsw5014

It sure is very adult of you to name drop other bands you probably haven't a clue about. I'm nineteen buddy and you sir need to grow up. Speaking as a Radiohead fan.

  • HAHAHA no!

  • viva la vida ...is way better!!!

this is like a bad "salsa" version, of an unknown song, lol..:)

  • It doesn't matter if it's better (which it isn't, because viva la vida is just mainstream radiopop), they stole it.

  • I don't hear it at all. I hear it in Satriani's song right away..

  • once the song gets going it really does sound like viva la vida by Coldplay

  • but there are loads of songs that have various exerts in them that sound like other songs. does not particularly mean that they've ripped them off. coldplay have done well by themselves for or 6 years so why should they start now? People like Cat Stevens and Joe Satriani are just using a multi-platinum album to get some more cash. I'm not just saying it because Im a coldplay fan but I've heard so many songs that sound like each other and its not deliberate, on the rare occasion, it just happens

  • Oh yeah, because Cat Stevens is totally the type of person that would sue because they want more money. ~_~

  • so does this mean joe ripped off cat? would be funny if cat sent his lawyers out like joe did

  • Pretty much every harmony has been used(.) It's called evolution of music. Listen to some classical stuff, hundreds of years old; many harmonies are regurgurgitated time and time again. Thats music. It is art. It is like art, it causes great debate and pleasure. Enjoy music!!

  • "regurgitated" doh...

  • ps - Did the Beatles rip off Cat or did Cat rip off the Beatles. Listen to the beginning of this song and think of "Hey Jude"... Again, as stated before: Enjoy music!!

  • whatever...this is nothing like viva la vida... all the coldplay-fans are angry hihihi

  • Cat Stevens is stupid? WTF are you on?? He is one of the greatest musicians ever. Coldplay have nothing on him!

  • It's a very catchy song. Coldplay probably ripped it off by accident. There are only so many chord progressions and so many melodies. I dig both...wait with Satriani... all three songs.

  • this actually does sound like coldplay's viva la vida........coldplay might have got the idea from this but joe satriani's song sounds nothing like viva la vida

  • Listen from about 3:37 on through...

  • the truth of the matter is that music, articles, books are always a pastiche of stuff. so... I don't think cat stevens should fight for this. This is a great song!!

  • viva la vida? xD thats a fuckin joke

  • listen at 5:00.. its the refrain, but it doesnt matter

  • i can't hear something like viva la vida in that song ...

  • Enough about Coldplay. This is about a great Cat song!

  • true thing, though i think they copied it

  • Hmmm, so, did Joe Satriani copy Cat Stevens???

  • I like the cat stevens version. Cold play is played out!

  • Viva la Vida is entirely within copyright "fair use" guild lines. This sounds barely anything like the Coldplay song and the percentage of creative form Coldplay uses is more than enough to make this lawsuit idea a joke.

  • ¿Viva la Vida??

  • For those of you who don't hear it you have to listen further, it's very clear about 3/4 of the way through the song. VERY CLEAR.

  • Perfect. This is exactly what I was waiting for. First of all, every artist should know it's impossible to come up with anything truly original. Similarities like this happen every day, but Satriani's too thick-headed to admit it. And the scary thing is, his argument would hold up in court!

God I hope Cat Stevens sues. If he does people (and judges) will realize how senseless this is. It would turn into a debate over who Coldplay actually stole from. So ridiculous. More lawsuits please!
