  • if that old chevy was 4wd..you can bet the bumper would be higher

  • Yea but what if you run over a dead hound dog in the road... Get that thang caught up in that low bumper and be one heck of a mess.... Jacked up is the way to go.. They need to raise cars up, instead of drop trucks down.

  • love the technicolor tie....

  • i have a 76 chevy cheyenne and i love it to death!

  • The new Chevy bumper satisfies appearance and aerodynamics; looks too fragile for bump collisions.

  • Isn't that old Chevy a 2WD, being compared to the '08 being a 4WD?

  • @ghunt81 it doesnt make a difference about how many drive wheels it has, they were making a point that work vehicles' bumper hight has changed in almost 40 years

  • @snipinggod29

Yes it does, 2WD trucks are always lower in the front than 4WD trucks.

  • @ghunt81 they did have 4wd trucks in 76 (that's the year of my chevy C10) and mine is the exact same hight as a 4wd of the same year, maybe it's different today. all trucks are too high today, the bed on mine is about a foot and a half lower than my neighbor's '10 F150, trucks today are becoming less practical in my opinion.

  • @nicka2316 AMEN

Those plastic bumpers will pretty much disintegrate over time. Cars that are over half a century old can still have bumpers that look like they rolled of the assembly line but in 50+ years from now, all of the newer cars with the plastic bumpers will look disgusting...

  • @IDontUsePicks true

  • I would love one of those. Also read a good article about the same at fasteconomicalcars (.) com

  • 10169 Videos?????????????????????? OMG!!

  • its not just the bumper that is higher you idiot, the whole dam thing is too high!!

  • Thats why i love my 1984 GMC sierra.

I want that 72 cheyenne in the background!!

  • @limeimac97776 And i love my 1985. My friend was making fun of me for having such an ugly, steel bumper. A week later he backed into my rear bumper. I laughed and told him that i wouldn't go to my insurance company if he wiped his green paint off my chrome. 4 days and over $900 later, his civic had a new bumper/fender and was back on the road.... Score: GMC 1, Honda 0. 8P

  • The damage done by very slow-speed impacts to modern "bumpers" is scandalous. Check out IIHS's "bumper evaluations" data, showing the cost of 6mph and 3mph "bumps."

In contrast, a big chrome bumper can take a few hits without looking too bad, and then to replace one is do-it-yourself job that only costs a few hundred.

Bumpers should be designed to take minor bumps without much damage, if any, and be cheap to replace. That's what "bumpers" are for.

  • OMG George W. Bush got in there. We're all screwed!!

  • Dont like the bumper being low? Get a fucking tank.

  • @nicka2316 everybody buys cheap chinck shit now,so its impossible

  • cars aren't mean to crash, they're designed to protect the passengers. it's far easier to total a new car, but it's just as easy to survive a crash on a newer car.

don't come here with your "plastic is crap" bullshit because lighter cars are more efficient, look better and are cheaper.

if you don't like damaging the fascia on you car, DON'T CRASH IT, DAMMIT

  • @drakesolar Cheaper yes but still not as cool or as good looking as chrome. Older cars, especially from the 50's to the 70's and some 80's cars, look better all around than anything made after 2000 and will crush your plastic bumpers and probably damage my chrome ones too. But steel bumpers can be fixed, too, not just thrown away.

  • @drakesolar Plastic is crap.

  • It's total bullshit!!! Their collision tests don't really recreate the real world situation. In real accident the driver of the car coming from behind would hit the brakes as hard as he can thus lowering the front of the car by some 5-7 inches and eventually matching heights with the other, non SUV car. Think about it.

  • @nepom1

Yeah and there a some people who hit the gas pedal thinking it's the brakes.

  • @dahgutone

Sorry, they are usually not people but women.

  • Interesting and yes it makes sense. What is wrong with a simple truck ..that has a normal ground clearance?

  • @nicka2316 My mom had an '84 Buick(I honestly can't remember, it was a real nice one though), and it had the chrome bumpers on it with those little rubber rectangles(like the green chevy pickup in the video)

  • "Obviously these higher bumpers are for appearance, not for function." Well stated, too bad manufacturers always keep the profit margin above the safety margin.

  • Re:killapawner,

Not everybody wants or needs to drive a massive pickup - this can be resolved simply by redesigning the bumpers from the mfr, saving everyone money. And BTW, it won't be me that's bitching that my trunk is bent in, your insurance is the one that pays for my new car, and your premiums go up.

  • if there so worried about the stupid bumpers and costing a lot for damage prices. just gat a damn truck. its your fault if you want a small as car and then bitch when you get hit by a bigger truck and they do a lot of damage to your little car and hardly no damage to the truck

  • does that guy realize that just mabey the bumper on the new truck is just at the same level as the frame? if it was lower , it would reduce the functionality, being rigitidy and strength in a crash...

  • Adrian points out many things here that even I failed to notice... and I notice a lot of things, mind you!

  • This is an absolutely true video and brings home the point of how modern trucks really aren't much better than classics. I'll take a 67-72 Ford over anything built since 1980 any day of the week. Sure I might DIE if I go under a semi truck trailer, or if I roll it off a cliff, but I would rather have a solid hard-working cheapazz truck than any of the plastic garbage they put out these days. And if someone in a Mini complains that my back bumper hurt their car when they rear end me, TOUGH!

  • @occupant272 Actually it's more of a question when you rearend THEM. Either way it sucks.

  • 79 chevy pickup 4x4 268,000 miles. Still running strong. Original everything!

  • ??? that was completely off subject but ok.

  • My truck is 10 years old, 130,000 miles on it, original engine, original transmission....It's a FORD.

  • My truck is 15 years old, 182,000 miles on it, original engine, original transmission....It's a TOYOTA

  • well duh, its a toyota, they last forever. lol

  • ha, true

  • WOW HOLY SHIT thats amazing a ford that has more then 50,000!!!! jesus thats rare right there

  • ummm its not how the vehicle is built, it how the owner takes care of the vehicle and how it has been driven. FY! our old 97 F150 had 300,000 miles when we sold it. our 03 GMC DIED at 175,000 just to let you know, nothing against GMC, it was nicer than the F150 but it died faster.

  • I'm just glad they didn't crash test that nice looking 72 C-10 Chevy truck, I would hate to see it messed up.

  • yeah that would suck

  • ah i was hoping they would crash the C10 into something, i wanna see what kinda damage the thing can do to that hyundia they kept rear ended :D

  • somebody crashed into the back of me once. damage cost to me= $0. damage cost to the idiot who can't see a big red land rover= $3000+. good ol steel bumper.

  • so what if the other car gets more damage. trucks are sopose to do that

  • Mounting the bumper and beams lower on a truck is pussy. New explorers are shit i'd buy an older one. trucks are going down the drain now. its the other persons fault for not buying a truck.

  • no its your fault for running into them you idiot.

  • I'll run into you with an older Explorer then, idiot. You'll feel sorry after your Versa is totalled.

  • yep and its still your fault..

    jeez...stupid kids.

  • hahaha the chev has a snap on bumper lol thats great. when will they learn?

  • thats a nice Chevy Cheyenne

  • i figure my jeep can plow through or over most cars.... lucky me :)

  • especially a 76 JEEP Camanchee

  • Why not design a lower bumper on the taller vehicles. or raise the bumpers on the smaller cars

  • What the hell is the point of buying a truck if it's ground clearance is the same as an Accord?

Sure it can haul cargo, but why not get a van at that point?

  • If my bumper is lower to the ground I might get it caught on a rock or tree stump, then that could cause a rear end accident. I figure I will just lift my Jeep 3 inches to fix my hieght problem.

  • good video. it shows a complete lack of engineering and design while these guys go to school for years to learn how to design, then at the end, they design with lots of flaws...

  • i rather drive that 1978 truck i beet you it can destroy that car

  • i drive a 1973 ford f100 heheheh

  • Chevrolet :D

Why dont we just make bumpers like we used to and put them separate of the vehicle, attached only by hydraulics. It worked wonderfully, and did'nt cost two grand to replace when broken or bent.

  • As much as I wholeheartedly agree, try and picture a 2009 Mercedes with something akin to 1980 Mercedes 300SD bumper hobbled onto it.

    Wouldn't sell.

  • Then dont do 1980's.

    Think about the S300.

The one with the Gull wings?

    THOSE kinds of fenders. :D

  • then maby jackasses shouldnt hit each other! Just because of a few idiots you shouldnt harrass guys who want vehicles that are offroad able. also I know on most my vehicles I cut and remold the plastic below to get the ground clearence i need.

  • and?
