  • Holy Shit, un-freaking-believable. This pushes the envelope. This is what we are here for, music on a higher plane. love you DB.

  • EARLE FUCKIN" SLICK !

  • earl slick....one of the unheralded greatest guitarist of our generation. i mean holy hell, listen to the chord changes he does on just this one song.

  • So good to see this again. I was in the audience.

  • This just fantastic...especially the guitar and drumming

  • @pawnsacrifice1 omg you are a lucky person, and a wise in making sure you got your ass to this show.. :)

  • @jeannemarie1661 I wasn't actually there??

  • Legend !

Check out Sankofa Liverpool to hear somemore amazing sounds.

  • What guitar is that? Brand and model, if somebody know please let me know! Thanks.

  • A brilliant piece of live music from David Bowie and Earl Slick, and superb supporting band members. Earl is most definitely slick! and David Bowie as always so very good! Wow, a classic gem for us all!!

  • I just made it back from the weird side of YouTube. Should have stayed here.

  • it's so good, it defies belief !!! totally awesome.

  • Earl Slick - MAJOR talent. Bowie: Major Tom. Gail Anne Dorsey - superb. All major talent. Love this.

  • This is the first time I've heard this....thank you....I'd like to read the lyrics...I like the vibe of "Stay"

  • when bowie wants to rock nobody is better!

  • THIS IS CLASS!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great song, Great Version. Please David, come back! We want new music, a live tour - may the force be with you!

  • @omanmc i agree. why would you turn your back on music, even if he didn't tour he could make a new album.

  • Bloody gorgeous!

  • Now these are real musicians!!

  • Carlos Alomar played rhythm for Bowie for quite a long time and played the intro for Stay I believe on Station to Station. As I recall Slick played lead a bunch on "Stay" in the studio when it was recorded. Carlos was no slouch either. That was a hell of an album. From Stay to TVC 15 ...1975 or1976 I think.

  • @Hiwynds Thank you -- I knew someone would know for sure. And yes, that was a great album then and still a favorite of mine -- choice.

  • OK, so the one thumbs down is from someone who is about to hang himself in the garage...how tragic. Bowie has never put together a bad band...ever, and this is a great rendition of Stay with Earl Slick as the master of the guitar universe.

  • bowie rox

  • @1spliff1965 Foger Rox, ah-eight?

  • wonderful.

  • Great Song!!!

  • Nowhere NEAR enough coverage of Gail Ann Dorsey--GODDESS.

  • Who's the guy who don't like this great song?

  • 2011/ hey, peoples, you will never see artist like that [maybe] in the next 1000/year,s reality/serge/montreal

  • one of the best shows i ever saw evansville ind.1976 always has the tightest bands years ahead of his time

  • Great version, but i would LOVE to see Belew on lead for this song again.

  • Davids bad, Earls super bad & the drummers mother fukin bad,,,,hot shit

  • Davids bad, Earls super bad & the drummers mother fukin bad,,,,hot shit

  • hot shit

  • amazing! bowie always amazing!

  • Fuck, this music is PERFECT. Lead guitar, rhythm guitar, bass, drumming, keyboards... everything. How they made this? It's beyound my understanding.

  • Razor sharp, pounding, rocking, funked-out version!! Earl Slick can carry off those licks allright......

  • one of my favourite song , in really conflict with blackout from "heroes" but this is another story

thank you for post thank you

  • stay- stay -stay - stay - sta-a-a-aaa-a--aaaayyyy-yyy

  • FREE EARL!

  • Had to listen again and again...... The coolest person on Earth.

  • Mega cool. Is that Earl Slick I hear????

  • J'ai commencé à écouter Bowie j'avais 16 ans avec l'album diamond dogs, mon préféré avec station to station, stay est une tuerie!!!!!!!

  • 2011/may/17/what,is,the,problem,today,whit,all,those,artists,wake,up,planet,earth,listen,to,bowie,serge/montreal

  • i started listening to bowie early 2000's. b4 I listened to mason and what can I say I made a great choice

  • Bowie is one of the few artists that has bands that actually end up sounding better than the original recording; and in his case that is an accomplishment.

  • Over the years David Bowie has had a lot o different f looks but his magical voice has stood the time

  • Magical, heavenly, monumental - miraculous?

  • Like

  • Earl Slick (guitar), Gail Ann Dorsey (bass guitar), Mark Plati (guitar), Sterling Campbell (drums), Mike Garson (keyboards), with backing vocals by Emm Gryer and Holly Palmer.

  • @HonkeyPrince Thank you for listing the band. Best rhythm section I have ever heard!

  • @ipykipyk You got that right!

  • wish I had his hair!Great song!

  • I suddenly have a compulsion to head to an old disco and throw my hip out

  • @sweeper5 I've followed David from the start until Young Americans. Still like to hear his best songs like: 'look back in anger' Bowie sold himself out to be cheered at by teeny boppers. Luckily we still had Talking Heads, King Crimson and others. For me, the golden formula for a band is excellent guitar play and meaningful lyrics by a good voice. I like anarchist energy, a band like System of a Down does it for me these day's. Same excitement as the first time I heard Jimi Hendrix.

  • Yes,This is a great version of song.

  • Fortunate to have seen the Thin White Duke and Earl Slick perform this greatness when it was brand new during the Station to Station tour.

  • A bit soft and fluffy, but otherwise not bad.

  • Earl Slick, pure badass guitar. Also one of my all time favorite Bowie songs.

  • @Hiwynds Carlos Almodavar on the original?

  • @ClueSign Yes that is correct...or was it Andrian Belew?

  • @MrVeesworld Someone will weigh in with the correct answer, in YT world......

  • @Hiwynds I agree 100%.

  • I love his hair.

  • Does anyone know who the drummer is ?

  • Is his concert available on CD or DVD?

  • Few years ago found this concert on my bowie's selection. AWESOME, said... and for that day it's the best concert ever heard. Simply so great, excellent & enjoyable...I just.....The best!!!

  • The marvelous Gail Ann Dorsey on bass. Have you seen her and Bowie do Under Pressure?

  • Claire? Hells no son, that is quite clearly Gail :P

  • With Carlos on Rhythm, Claire on Bass and Earl on Lead - THE MAN can do no wrong. Fantastic song from a fantastic album performed - errrrr - fantastically!!!!!!

  • Now I know why Joanie loves Chachi, he kicks ass on guitar.

  • Bowie, backed by a great band and performing one powerhouse of a ROCKIN number. One of my favorite songs. Thanks Earl Slick- great guitar. Last time I saw the little bass player she was wearing shoes. She must have gotten a raise. Lol

  • @whemadre Do you make the same joke on every Bowie video feauturing Gail?

  • Slick couldn't be more underappreciated! What a guitarist!

  • this song has always been one of my reason to live ! and am not young.

  • One of his very best. With the original guitar player back in tow. Funk Rock at its best.

  • One of his very best. With the original guitar player back in toe. Funk Rock at its best.

  • Earl Slick - Damn!

  • way bitchin' band!

  • WTF! 2 dislikes? Must be a couple of Death Rock loving Punks, lol.. :>) Thumbs up if you agree..

  • He's never looked or sounded better. Just the consumate performer and no need for distracting costumes although he does wear them well. He's probably sung this song hundreds of times and it's obvious he simply loves performing his classics. Just like the Beatles, Zappa and a few others....the right guy at the right place and at the right time. Never to be repeated. What an amazing career.!!!

  • @panther105 Couldn't of said that better myself, So true!

  • Superb!!!

  • stay, stay, stay, fame.....

  • I wish i could look that good at that age

  • station to station, one of the greatest underrated albums ever made in music history. for bowie fans probably a coolest one, not so much as diamond dogs or alladin sane but still got great songs .

  • @kjsh987 Good thing they're re-releasing it in ultra-delux collectors edition and live album.

    5 CD's worth of amazingness!

  • @kjsh987 you got that right on the head. All excellent albums, my favorites. Seen him live several times. Excellent shows!

  • Wow. Great band.

  • ahh good music. all we get today isa bunch of scene kids screaming into a microphone and calling themseves deathcore.

  • While indiviudally every musician on that stage is a powerhouse (and I mean every musician there), the tru artistry is how they take their individual talents and created a group that sounds amazing, Its what you call synergy.

  • I'm ashamed to admit I only heard this song for the first time very recently. I was in my car on a sunny day, tunes cranked up, just cruising around and I quite simply shit myself. The intro is so freeking bad ass. This drummer crushes it...

  • who's the drummer ? He's playing much heavier than the original, but it's really cool

  • @Laurent75017 Sterling Campbell is the drummer, ex Duran Duran, Soul Asylum and more....

  • You can always count on the BBC for best sound.

    ...and Earl, sheesh!

  • I saw these dudes play it on the Station to Station tour in 1977/78?...in London.

Earl Slick hardly moved a metre during the whole concert...he just played THAT fucking guitar like nobody else...AWESOME...bisous à tous xxxx

  • kick ass version!

  • Son of bitch that was hot........

  • 'cause you can never really tell when somebody wants something that you want too'...a fantastic line...

  • the only rock song on station to station. and it kicks ass.

  • ultra tight performance

  • My favorite Bowie tune. Great guitar work and a great performance.

  • peerless guitar

  • My wife don't like too many guitar payers but she likes the FUCK outta Earl, especially with Bowie, this just fuckin' rocks man........

  • To echo rom1w, what model guitar is Slick using?? Looks like a Tele but sounds like a Gibson...someone else said Peavey but I own many Peaveys including two Generations--this is something different...

  • So cool, the definition of cool . . . no wonder there were years when I listened to almost nothing but Bowie.

  • Fucking brutal song. Always, always been one of my very favorite Bowie songs. I heard this in a Chili's (or Applebee's??) on my way back from an ocean fishing trip once. I heard the first couple measures (you know... piped-in music at a chain like that. I was like "wtf??? can this be what I think it is???) and made everyone else at my table be quiet so I could hear it. LoL.

But, yeah... this performance kills it, and Earl's guitar is just blistering.

    Awesome.

    Thanks for posting. =)

  • @runthemachine

    Totally agree, awesome guitar work.

  • @runthemachine Yep ,Slicks the man, Saw him live with Bowie back in the day along with 2 other times, once with Peter Frampton. Great shows!

  • wath is the brand of the guiatr he is using ???

  • The drummer 's great - reminds of Bonzo, even though Bonzo had a different sound

  • At age 13 Corey King played with Earl Slick at BB Kings!

  • thank you, genius at work, very tight group

  • A veces pienso que dios existe... y es David Bowie.

  • i can't stop watching this.

  • wow Earl Slick thanks..

  • I'm amazed bowie hasn't got receeding hairline considering his age.

  • @jinmunsuen cuz he never ages...he still looks 35!!! lol

  • Hai Earl

  • allways david got great guittarrist player close to him like ronson, slick, vaughan and alomar. on that he never fails.and his voice in this song is awesome

  • @kjsh987 Don't forget Adrian Belew

  • @kjsh987 not to forget Adrian Belew, plus, he always has beautiful female musicians

  • @kjsh987 Don't forget Adrian Belew!

  • @dickholzhaus1 And Reeves Gabrels too. Bowie always seemed to be able to spot and utilize top-notch guitarists. David Bowie is not my cup of tea, but I have to admit he is great at what he does. Being a musician myself, I have a very real appreciation for anyone as good as David is, even though stylistically my musical taste is different.

  • Epic..........

  • O hell yeah. I'd stay till he gave me the boot, and then come back for more!

  • who wouldent stay with sexy hot spice delic handsome loving i could go on forever and evr ever ever ever ever ever love you david love you bowie

  • that bass player is fucking great!

  • f**k-me that lead guitarist is amazing

  • This is as good as gets, bay bee. God bless you, David Bowie. Thank you for the music you created. You are my favorite. Please if you might continue. We love you.

  • Im telling you this song is as good as any song the master put out....

  • yeup....

  • Blows me away! The rythmn guitar. The bass. The lead. All fantastic!!

  • An incredible fusion of Funk, Disco and Hard Rock.

  • Yeh this is an awesome concert, I taped it when it came on and still think its one of the best live bands I 've ever heard, such grooves. Earl Slick is an amazing player yeh? Em Grynner, awesome BVs

  • I'm speechless...

  • This is from a BBC show called BOWIE AT THE BEEBE. There is a double cd but I can't find a DVD.

  • Bowie es verdaderamente incomparable! No hay nadie como el ni habra'.

  • YEAH Earl !! Love this ROCKIN song. And Bowie - one of a kind. NO ONE writes music or sings like Bowie.

  • This version is really killer...but the the 1978 version with Adrian Belew and Roger Powell is EVEN better than this!!

  • its got that thump of the original.great live version

  • @ABOYINSANE Yes, the Funky break bass of James Brown, The Straight 4/4 beat of Barry White and hard rock guitar that burns down the house.

  • This live version beats the recorded version all to hell, well done.

  • Vídeo sensacional! Bowie forever!!!!!!!

  • He is incomparable. The Station to Station cd is one of my "desert island" cds.

  • man...does Slick look great!...fucking tight band eh!...esp the drums and bass baby!!!

  • que timbre foda!

  • absolutely fucking awsome

  • dis might sound crazy but i know earl slick, the janator at my school works also with my dad. i went to work with my dad one day and the janitor brang earl

  • Φανταστικό τραγούδι!!!

    Fantastic song!

  • This is off the album station to station.

  • Earl Slick rocks !

He and David Sanborn made Bowie's "David Live " album a classic live album !

  • @tonto4848 David Live never really got the credit it deserved imho. the critics blasted it - I LOVED it! I think that Slick can also play the pants off of Ronson and that's saying something as Mick was great!

  • @motthead69 Gotta agree with you dude !

"David Live" is definitely his best album in my opinion ! Mainly due to the great musicians on board that can capture that high quality live feel - Earl Slick, Herbie Flowers & David Sanborn ... they don't come any better !

  • @tonto4848 Its great but it could definitely do with 'less cowbell'

  • where can I find this? looked for it on you tube to no avail!

  • Oh David, i love your voice, i love your songs, i love you! i'm 17 and i'm your fan right now and for ever and ever and ever, my Duke

  • slick

  • trying to look and moves like robert plant here...i am starting the pole shift survival group.

let me know if u r interested.

  • The original 2 vinyl albums (1976) were re-released in 2007 as a double cd set and is available at any internet music seller for abour $20 US. Second lead guitarist and lead vocalist Jimmie Mack (Brother of Jack Mack and the Heart Attack) co-wrote most tracks and compliments Slick's style.

  • earl slick? well I'm a fan NOW!!!!

  • Check out his older stuff, especially "Razor Sharp, Earl Slick Band" double cd (1976). I'm 52 and have been a fan since the '70's.

  • I'm on it! Thanx. Don't know how I missed him, since I'm of the same era and I've always been a Bowie fan. Something new from the 70's! Tres cool!

  • That front man...never heard of him...who is he??

  • I'm crying here...

  • This guy really does kick ass on the guitar!

  • I played keys in a Bowie cover band a few years ago. I had never even been a real fan - but this recording of a track I'd never heard before (included on a CD our guitarist put together) blew me away. 1984's another one.

  • Earl Slick is such a cool son of bitch...

  • I grew up with him...He was always like that...Great guy...
