So i bought this amp and got a set of default cables in the box. I've been looking into some "monster" bass cables, and i'm wondering which is better. Please reply if you have an answer. Thanks!
...well all sound waves are omnidirectional, but I guess, since bass frequencies travel farther, it could be argued that bass frequencies are more omnidirectional.
I bought a used flightcase on eBay a couple of months ago ($525). I used to own a briefcase but it really didn't have the presence that I needed. I tried out the flightcase in a shop and was impressed with the sound. I think it's the upward facing drivers that make the difference. There are a couple of clips of me playing out with it on my YT page. I'm still experimenting with the levels/positioning of the thing, but overall I like it. And 25lbs. Wow!
great amp, I got one and was pretty happy, but then I figured out that a headphones out gives a lot of high-tone midi-like sound. dunno why it's like that, ggot the same thing on my bass buddy preamp.
a few weeks ago I had one speaker half-dead, unfortunately. dunno if it's about the manufacturing quality or what ((((((
oh and, by the way, is it REALLY THAT quiet? of course it's more about the tone, but it's kind of 15 times less loud as a typical 150watts one
These amps are incredible{not the loudest} but so articulate. I have owned close to 40 amps and this is my favorite for my Ken Smith 6 string. Thanks Ed for the review..love your stuff{not in the gay way}
Hard to say. The GK is a typical directional volume, where the PJB is more radiating. The gK might be perceived as louder because it comes at you from a single point.
I was trying to decide between the Flightcase and the Super Flightcase. The Super is only 9lbs heavier so I guess it comes down to the extra cash for the Super. I typically perform in jazz trios and quartets.
BTW I notice that even after this very positive review you still choose the Genz Benz as your main rig for URB and electric. Any specific reason?
The PJB works best in certain environments, and I don't always get to play in those situations. On an outdoor gig, or a stage that is not up against a wall, the PJB is at a disadvantage. It was designed to work with the room.
Really made me laugh, those miniatures are well made. I've been interested in Phil Jones' products, but they're just too expensive over here in Sweden.
It looks to me like a Lakland Skyline (or Shoreline) 55-01. The base model in that series with the Bartolini MK1 split-coil soapbars. That bass is an amazing value.
FYI: The Shoreline was made in and only available in Japan to my knowledge.
The Flightcase is bigger than the Briefcase, so it's better suited to matching a drummer. They JUST came out with a bigger version of the Flightcase, it has 4 forward speakers and 2 on top, and 300 watts. It's a little bigger, but it's still light, and it has a built-in handle/roller thingy. Check that out, it'll hang with a drummer no problem.
oh, didn't know I had to send it haha. I don't own one yet, but I've been looking for a review of some kind on the net that is useful to some degree, and I'm having trouble :/ Oh well, let me know if you ever review it or another markbass product.
Thanks for the good comments! I'm using a Fishman Pocket Blender with my setup. I'm not sure if they make that one anymore, it's two channel, so I blend the pickup and microphone.

Old trick is to turn your drivers to the wall and let the wall act as a passive driver. Sub woofers have used this trick in most stereos.

In terms of volume, not tone, how does it compare with a GK MB150S?

Sounds like a new PJB factory is opening in China so maybe they'll be cheaper soon.

You never really name the prices.. nice vid tho.

Yeah, sorry. I suppose you could find a few different prices if you do a search, but it's in the $900 range. Not cheap for sure, but a great amp.

Hi Ed
What impedance buffer/ input mixer do you use for your Full Circle? I need one to fit my realist. Yours sounds very good.
Fantastic videos by the way - I'm munching my way through your improvisation book at the moment. Very clear and high quality stuff!
Thanks
