@elkikex There are many different legends about how our ancestors reacted to auroras. It is said that the vikings thought it was reflections from dead maidens. Many stories include interpretations like that the auroras was a message from the gods that they were angry, or an omen of a coming plague. In Finland it was thought that the lights was created by Arctic foxes running high up in the north and touching the mountinas with its fur so that sparks fly off into the sky..
Thank u for uploading this...it's the best recent video online!plus, I loved your blog :) Keep up uploading videos like these for us that it's almost impossible to see for ourselves..
@DigitalBasics Wow, that`s fantastic! At it`s strongest we could "only" see it in the south up here, and I hear many people have seen it far south in Europe!
@AuroraPhoto I believe so...if you visit my home page (digital-basics-dot-com), you will see a link to some pics I've shared but by the time I arrived, the Lights were already retreating North....
@Firewoman888 I actually saw the sun for the first time of the year today, but that , however, doesn`t mean it is dark all the time, it is "normal" daylight for 5-6 hours/day right now.
@Poromenos1 For various reasons, I had to keep the exposure times rather long for each individual frame, so in order to get a somewhat smooth motion, I had to speed it up. Personally, I don`t like speeded-up versions, but this was a first try, so next time I will post a time-lapse will be in real-time speed. The motion of an aurora display varies a LOT though, and some parts in the video are very close to real speed.
This is by far the best experience of the event I have been able to have the pleasure of viewing on the web thus far. Hands-down: excellent job & thank you so much! <3
Wowzers - amazingly beautiful - magical!! Like ribbon blowing in the wind - beautiful in it's fluid movements. Great job sir - geat job! Another friend from sunny southern California!
@boomerat60 Thank you - I hope you get the chance to see the northern lights one day! It was a very cold night, but so beautiful that you almost forget that you freeze..
@dwilson94 I hope you will get to see the light one day - it can`t really be described with words, pictures or video. The reality is much more fantastic. I wish you all the best!
Thank you so much all of you! All your warm and friendly comments really help to keep warm out there in the bitter cold. I wish you all clear skies and, hopefully, some northern lights.
I have a lot to learn regarding time-lapse shooting before I can make the aurors ANY kind of justice, but this was a first try and I learned a lot of how to do it better next time.
@AuroraPhoto Hej Fredrik! Wow, vilken fantastisk video! Jag råkade faktiskt se den genom en vän till mig från Algeriet som hade postat den på sin FB-sida(!) Så du är världskänd!Häftigt:). Hoppas allt är väl/ Emelie från Stö café :)
Thank you soooooo much for sharing this magical moment for our beautiful earth.. :o) Absolutely fabulous to watch.. Can really see the angles.. Am sharing to my page..
Gosh...what a most amazing gift to the wonderful people of a beautiful country! From someone a very long way south of you all. Truly inspiring images..Thanks
@paulyav Yes, I feel very privileged to live in a place where auroras can be seen so often, but then again, that is one of the main reasons I moved to the north :-)

I have a question.
How did the ancient locals react to this phenomena?
I live in a tropical location so this is alien to me (and my ancestors).
