I have always been inspired by Miley's music, I admire to the extreme her powerfull voice and her stage presence. I honestly appreciate this cover. However, I do understand why many Nirvana fans don't: Miley's tryin' too hard, which is not natural and, beyond that, she criated the ton to sing it from a scream, while Kurt sings each word like it's the last one before a vomit....

@angelface3994 Grunge represented a period in the past. The song Smells Like Teen Spirit was embraced as an anthem to the raggedy and unkept. By contrast, today people are more fashion conscious and groomed. Miley Cyrus is a contemporary example of a rebellious youth not at all ready to tow the line yet identifies with spirit of defiance. She just happens to do so better dressed. Rage all you want. That was then, this is now. Miley Cyrus will survive your wrath and be better for it.

@angelface3994 Kurt Cobain gave up any say how his music will be interpreted following his death, that includes how it's used a generation later. Miley Cyrus didn't sing this for the grunge crowd. It was a tribute to Nirvana for her fans described by her as having inspired Miley to sing and perform. You don't have to agree with it's use or how or who sang it. Rolling Stone needs to keep up with the times and stop resurrecting grunge, instead write about todays music and performers.

I wasn't aware that covering certain songs were forbidden. Miley's dad is an older musician, she's been around music all her life, her godmother is Dolly Parton, ffs. Kurt is not 'rolling in her grave', I personally think he's glad that the music he created is living on and Miley introducing Nirvana to the next generation of kids? He really didn't like his stuff commercialized or commercial pop in general, that's one of the bigger reason that drove him into his depressive state at the end (Nirvana got too big for him to handle). i mean i guess he's make an except for her cause she'd do drugs with him if he was alive. Courtney Love is the one who inherited the rights to the Nirvana songs, she's been allowing them to be used for all kinds of commercial means for years. She gave permission for them to cover their songs on American Idol. You're going to have a hissy fit because a singer you don't like covered a song in concert? Grow the fuck up. She's not a poser for singing a 'commercial' Nirvana song, she's singing it in concert w/ teens, I doubt many of them would appreciate it if she sang 'Rape Me' instead.

Miley Cyrus has a better octave range than many pop/rock singers today. She can switch up from a smooth voice and kick in a husky, raspy voice if the song calls for it. Miley has been rocking it for years but only now are adults realizing how amazing Miley Cyrus really is and as she continues to tour in the coming years, a growing legion of fans will appreciate the talent she possesses.
