The guy at 3:26 is practically the definition of 'balls of steel.' He saw Hydralisks shrugging off gauss rifle rounds, and what does he do? He pulls out his goddamn pistol and blazes away at it.

You can still hear the pistol shots right before the bomb goes off, so it's not like he dies as soon as the camera moves off him. That, my friends, is how the Terran Marine Corp gets shit done.

@paul82587 they explode, and for your first post. shot 1 hits the shield on its head shot 2 hits its blade and shot 3 hits the eye of the hydra and thats pritty much a lucky shoot so rather shoot there body then head because of the giant shield they have.

Moral of the story, always hit them in the head.

personally i think this guy is a ghost. There are levels of ghosts and not all of them can cloak either. This vid takes place shortly after the rise of Mengsk, who at this point after a huge war would still be short of resources so this is probably one of the cheaper ghost classes meant mostly for demolitions like these. He has the ghost armor, the goggle, and what even appears to be the gun. Just because he's ugly as sin it doesn't mean he's not a ghost.

@Kemonokami sry, but he WAS a ghost:/ visual/canister+shells for the canister, and he was stealthed all the time, this is why he wasn't get attacked, not the combat armor generates the stealth, its their psychic ability, that grants stealth, this is why observer (robot), missile turret(robot), overlord (cerebrate's will in smaller form), and science vessel pilot( half robot), detects stealth, they can't be mindfucked by the ghost:)

@AngelsDemon12 the C-14 Gauss Rifle already has piercing shells that have spikes to better penetrate enemy armor, this was mentioned in the SC1 manual.

What I find odd however, is that the rifle had a grenade launcher in the first game but somehow its absent on the second, it would have been a neat ability for Marines in SC2.

Man whoever wrote the script for this is a genius. No, i guess i should say everyone who worked on it is a genius. its possible to take a great script idea and ruin it with bad animation and crappy voices, but every aspect of this cinematic is spot on. Its actually dark and scary, which you dont see alot of in games anymore. Oh you see lots of violence, but not something brutal like the hopeless odds in this video. I don't think that beer has that side effects. the explosion was Hydralisk's regular attack (as in game). This is the ONLY instances that Hydralisk was shown spitting its foes in cinematics.

If one of those marines smoke. he and his teammates will not survive the mission (the only smoker survived the mission as of now is Findlay, though he was "smoked" by Raynor (who didn't smoke but drinks alot) much later on.

If he is a ghost then the cinematics department doesn't know anything about ghost and just picked him because he fit their art profile. A ghost that gets scared in combat makes as much sense as a ghost that doesn't have psionic powers - both of those conditions are equally impossible. The reason they have their armor is from protection from weaker zerg. These zerg they face here are Hunter Killers. The strongest of the hydralisk. As for why their bullets don't hurt the zerg they have very thick carapace stronger then steel. Them coming out of eggs has nothing to do with how strong their skin is, nor does being slimy make their skin any weaker. These creatures have been genetically engineered by the Overmind The Eternal Will Of The Swarm.

It looks like the armor became more massive after the Brood War. In SC2 a marine in armor could knock out a hydralisk with a punch to the head. These guys look like they're just wearing defensive plates without any hydraulic strength augmentation.

Speaking canon-wise of course. I'm sure Blizzard just wanted to make the marines look more badass than they already are.

Also, the gap between releases saw the popularization of the powered enhancement suit as a feasible future weapon system. The concept did exist when SC1 was released, but it was nowhere near as widely understood or popular as it is today. Hence, Blizzard may have decided that powered suits were developed during the timegap and deployed to counter the raw power of zerg forces.

@AngelsDemon12 the power armor Marines/Firebats used to wear in SC1 was not primarily used against Zerg attacks, it was used mostly against small fire arms AND it provided NBC (nuclear, biological and chemical) shielding from attacks.

This was mentioned in the SC1 manual.

The Zerg were pretty much a new enemy to the Terrans around SC1's timeline.
