@mpalin11 mee to, having watched a video of a 78rpm edition of "help" by the beatles, and a 78rpm edition of some beach boys song, I thought "maybe it was made in india or somehere where 78rpm records were still made in the 60s and 70s", hehe, I was curious about how would "smoke on the water" sound like on 78rpm :)
This is my favorite Artie Shaw tune. THANKS so much for posting it! Artie was TOPS...and Helen Forrest was one of the BEST of the bigband vocalists. Sheer heaven to listen to! :)
You should really load in "Deep Purple" by Larry Clinton Orchestra, featuring Bea Wain on vocal, which is the definitive version. The Clinton version was #1 for NINE weeks in 1939, Shaw's only made it to #17.
Hi , thanks for your comment... But I don't have the record :-) Are you interested in 78 rpm records... I have about 5000 78 rpm home...:-) Were are you from ? I'm in Belgium
There is absolutely no comparison for artistic value and depth between the Clinton/Wain and the Shaw/Forrest - you have no idea how wrong you are. Not to get personal, but you don't--have--a--clue. There is and was a good reason the Clinton version was #1 for 9 weeks in 1939, and Shaw's only made it to # 17. And although Shaw's band was by far and away more vital and important band, on this one Clinton and his singer, Bea Wain was the sun to their mere moon.
Sounds like cartoons songs hehehe....

I thought the title meant Deep Purple, the band :D Thumbs up if you agree.
This is good stuff, too, though...
