  • Seasons 3-8 will never be topped.

  • Oops - I meant to say The Simpsons is the longest running primetime show.

  • wow.. this guy went to schulich...

  • If you're looking for website to watch it, check out:

    tvshow-cinema . info

  • Longest running series? Is that right? Or does he mean longest running animated series?

  • @mattyhodg1 He's right, it's currently the longest running series, let alone the longest running animated series.

  • @davethehostage What about like, Coronation Street?..

  • @mattyhodg1 I know it's the longest running soap opera, but I'm not sure about the longest running series in general.

    I could be wrong, though.

  • @mattyhodg1 Coronation Street is the longest running primetime show - Coronation is the longest running Soap Opera.

  • simpsons is still classic

  • He mentioned Calgary, is QTV from Calgary??

  • the 20th season was great.

  • What's scary to me is that The Simpsons has almost had more bad seasons than good ones. Seriously the show has been terrible for almost 10 years, and this former "Caroline in the City" writer is the reason why.

  • I love listening to this station. Is there a way i can tune into to it online??? If there is a way than please mail the website to me. Thank you.

  • @kathleen2596

    triple w [dot] cbc[dot]ca/radio/

This show is called "Q." It's on at 10-11:30/12am and 10 pm-11:30/12pm every weekday in all time zones (which, if you're listening online and can choose the region, means you can listen to Jian virtually any time of the day).

  • i really can't stand the interviewers voice, always sounds like he's breathing heavely, they should just fire him, and bring in some big tittied hot chick :)

  • @SkylerStories A radio host has to have that type of voice to make listeners want to listen. And he has to keep talking and keep the convo going because otherwise it's called "dead air" when no one is talking. He has to give a perfect intro, otherwise it will confuse the listeners.

  • @SkylerStories Because that matters on a radio show.

  • @SkylerStories Jian has the hottest radio voice ever. I tune in 10am weekdays for his "breathing heavilly" voice.

  • He's always looking down while reading his introductions. He's so scared of his introductions being sabotaged. "I will not look up at you even once until I tell the audience who you are."

  • I still like The Simpsons. Has the quality gone down since the golden age? Of course but i still enjoy it.

  • Im so sick of the same 30 second ad...over and over...everytime i see that ad i rage.

  • so that's why The Simpsons isn't funny anymore.

  • If this guy had blue hair he would look just like Milhouse.....

  • @Saklez - LOL. That's probably why he got in, whether a conscious decision or not. He's got Milhouse's vibe!

  • the simpsons SUCKS!

  • ya the simpsons is setup humour now

  • i read an article that the yellow paint they use comes from Canada too.... lol

  • Family guy is just so boring, every joke goes like this, Peter says This remind's me of the time when I ________ed with ________ _________

  • @mrwario1duh, that is the family guy 's concept, the simpsons also have hundreds of jokes that repeat over and over, so don't blame family guy

  • @slagcity The Simpsons is actually funny. Family Guy isn't.

  • @mrwario1 your taste is not relevant

  • @mrwario1 both are funny, the simpsons are less funny, I think

  • @slagcity I can't think of any jokes the simpsons repeat. They have catchphrases but they aren' jokes.

  • Thumbs up if u like simpsons more than family guy

  • sharp for a canadian.

  • Joel Cohen is speaking tonight at the Alberta College in Edmonton. 7pm. Interested to see what he has to say. ( tix are $30.00)

Maybe I should just watch this interview a few times and save my money?

  • this guy is trying too hard to be amusing

  • @lola16rules Indeed. I was thinking the same thing.

  • Family guy is so much lazier than the Simpsons, not only because it is a bad Simpsons copy but because they simply randomly throw things together and occasionaly through sheer probabilty they produce something almost funny.. The Simpsons is well thought out inteligent satire whilst also managing to be be surreal. Anyone who enjoys Family more than The Simpsons has gone to piddle brain- wise.

  • @yossariancomplex The comparison between Family Guy and The Simpsons makes little or no sense. The only similarity between the two is they are animated. You are comparing apples and oranges. Every Simpson's episode is a three act very stringently regulated plot line. Family Guy on the other side is a more of a gradual progression with a pile of odd ball satire thrown in. Honestly the comparison you make makes absolutely no sense.

  • @hcgazoo- The main similarity between the Simpsons and Family guy are the characters of Peter and Homer- who are almost exactly the same. The only difference I can see is that I find Peter more anoyying than Homer. Since Family Guy is centrered (Loosely) around peter then surely this act of plagerism (Yes plagerism; the Simpson's writers agree and make constant reference to it their shows) completely discredits the show.

  • @hcgazoo The other differences you pointed out I did refer to in my origional post as the main reason why Family guy is inferior. Furhter similarities between family guy and the simpsons: both are centred around a family, bith have a moralising daughter character, both are focused (loosely) on a critique of American society. To saythere are no similarities because the narative style differ is to ignore alot.

  • @yossariancomplex You make a good point however to ignore the narritive is to ignore a cornerstone of the process and the very essence and therefore the context of the message. For me too many Simpson episodes end up wrapped up in a nice neat tidy package with a lesson or moral . It's like watching an animated version of Home Improvement. Family Guy however deliberately avoid's this in several episodes and I find that a refreshing jab at a genre that has remained unchanged for too long.

  • @hcgazoo I haven't ignored narrative- I (in my origional post) talked about the difference in narrative styles, and why I find the F.G. method of writing, and by extension narraitve, far inferior. After the first 6 or so series (of which i am not a fan) The Simpsons stoppped moralising, there arevery few clear cut messages in the current episodes- this was done before F.G. was even on the air. Just another example of F.G. plagerism.

  • lol 2001 is when I stopped watching the simpsons lol

  • cool interview. and ya, the simpsons has changed... is it not as funny? maybe... its evolved with the times. i cant hold that against them.

  • Comment removed

  • really? that's fascinating!

  • "So what are your qualifications?"

"Well, I wrote for Kathy Griffin"

"Umm errr... Thanks for coming in, you're just not what we'..."

    "I look like Milhouse!"

    "You start Monday"

  • honestly, I dont watch sympsons anymore BUT

when i was like 14..15..16..my..god..i loved that show

    Props to this guy!

  • What kind of question is that??

  • His name is Cohen. What do you think?

  • you like mouthing off to other people?

  • its not "a Jew" its Jewish moron

  • Yeah the new simpsons are without a soul. I'D say they started goin down hill around season 11. But before that the show was brilliant!

  • Comment removed

  • And taking from Family Guys humor style.

  • @Thrall320 how can you say that they take it when they've been around longer?

  • Because they've changed. The way they go about their jokes now, mostly, is the Family Guy style.

  • Don't knock Joel Cohen, he wrote Closing Time for God sake's!

  • Joel Cohen has been writing for the simpsons since 2001? Ahh, so he must be the one who ruined it.

  • Comment removed

  • nice interview, but why does every normally serious host feel like interviewing a comedian or comedy writer gives them license to be "wacky"? Just be a straight man and let them shine. Joel Cohen is a sharp dude tho. Cool to see beyond the voice actor focus of the Simpsons

  • Fantastic interview. "is there a danger..." was hilarious. This guy Joel should write for television. Oh wait, he does. Another shining example of the fact Canadians own and run Hollywood.

  • "let's take a minute"

...what? haha this guy was a riot, and i will now admit that when I seen that a writer for The Simpson's was on i figured it may be boring and i was wrong...very wrong

  • yea that was pretty funny

  • He has a "joker" mouth

  • LOL I love the awkwardness after he says "wow three times now" then Jian sighs and dude says "lets take a minute" at 12:37

  • how do they get 17:00 minutes? :S

  • he is a splitting image for Milhouse.

  • Agreed

  • lol, yes!

  • @lesmcluffalot Only the blue hair missing...

  • @lesmcluffalot millhouse is my fav hehe uhhggg bart!!

  • Bleeding Gums Murphy died on the show too

  • that was a hilarious....

    Cohen+Ghomeshi = WIT

  • calgary and alberta has the oil and they are booming, they have tons of money

  • Wrong dumbass, Alberta had all the oil last year and some years prior before new laws were implemented and everybody moved to Saskatchewan, who now have all the oil and all the jobs.

  • but Sask is a shit hole

  • and yet alberta is running a deficit now, and they had one of the largest job losses... last month.

  • He's a fairly witty guy but he can also be classified as a super nerd and little virgin.

  • They are both of quick wit. I love this interview.

  • Who knew that the Simpson's would have had such an impact on television today? I guess we can throw Conan O'Brien into that mix of those impacted by the Simpson's.

  • Conan was one of the best writers on the Simpsons

  • It's a shame The Simpsons starting going downhill in 2001.

    I enjoyed this interview though

  • But hey 1989 to 2001, not a bad run wouldnt ya say? i love the animation style from the first few seasons

  • figgggg fuckaa

  • @degausser8 i guess that meens that that guy is the reason for it going so down hill

  • @degausser8 I've always loved The Simpsons more than any other show, but I'm glad South Park picked up where Simpsons left off

  • @degausser8 whats so bad about it

  • emily. Desu.

    Desu

    Desu.

    Dedu

  • Please, CBC people, stop using lame words like "get-go."

  • It's just Jian. :P

  • Oh, ok. :)

  • toronto's still the powerful city in canada.

  • Ha ha..... Center of the Universe Syndrome. ;-)

  • maybe a little. but last time i checked alberta didn't have much of a communications and media industry. i'm just being realistic. toronto has the largest and most diversified economy in canada and is home to the most corporate headquarters, including that of the cbc and mr ghomeshi.

  • might have to do with the fact that its also the biggest city in Candada...?

  • o.o
