I take it you are not from Oklahoma. This is something we see every spring on TV. The 3 big TV stations (Ch 4,5, & 9) will go wall to wall coverage if a tornado is within 50 miles of OKC. Its a mix between radar & live shots from on the ground & in the air. This tornado was odd for it to happen in Feb. but was a lightweight compared to the one that hit Lone Grove at night.
indeed I'm not even from America, where I live we don't have any tornado's we do have heavy thunder storms but that is about once every 6 months. What do the colors mean btw? I'd figure a tornado would appear in black/white cause that looks like a hazard area, but the guy points to some yellow red one, is it like cold and warm? Like where cold meets warm and then makes a curve that's where you'll have a tornado ? D: just being curious
green and blue seem like obvious colder zones, a storm of course is warmer on the inside hence the yellow and red zones, black is that like the thunder?
No, the colors on the radar are the intensity returns from the Doppler. The greens = light rain, yellow & red = moderate rain, & the pink, black & white = heavy rain + Hail. The White usually means very large hail 2.5in+ The "Hook Echo" is usually a sign where the tornado might be. When you see this form it means a tornado is forming or is on the ground.
I've never seen a warning for a tornado on television, specially not a weather news like that it looks so darned confusing o.o
