  • thumbs up if you've played the battle of midway on battlefield 1942

  • In the end we had to sink her ourselves- the damege control people got her fires out, corrected the list and got her underweigh. Confused the Hell out of the Japanese who thought they'd spotted another uScarrier, when they'd already written her off as sunk.

  • the york town never sank

  • @tzman40 yes it did

  • Incredible model!

  • A hundred bucks to look at what WE lost! Where's the flamed Japanese carriers? now there would be something to see!

  • @bigfootskitty Agreed.

  • @bigfootskitty Yomata..

  • We should raise the Yorktown

  • uss hornet was not sunk nor hit at the battle of miday, uss Yorktown was the only carrier we lost at the battle

  • the yorktown was hit but not destroyed

  • @tzman40 sank two day later due to the damaged

  • @goldmaz23 damage caused

  • @tzman40 You may be thinking of the Yorktown at the Battle of Coral Sea the month before Midway. She was damaged there but quickly patched up and sent to Midway, where she and the destroyer USS Hammann were both sunk by the Japanese submarine I-168 after the battle.

  • Not quite what I thought it was going to be but good nonetheless.

  • God bless America till the end

  • Nice video

  • Dear Mr.eljuntamillas; After youve gone through ten or twelve kits of this model and glued your dick to youre hand trying to figure out how this guy built this model then maybe, just MAYBE youll understand what it takes to build somthing this nice. I hate people like you. Always looking for somthing for nothing.Yes-I know Im an asshole, but Im not a cheap asshole!

  • $ 100? For a piece of burned plastic?

  • @eljuntamillas Hey we spend $1million dollars a year sending a soldier to Iraq to urinate on dead women and children.

  • @needparalegal Oh....? When did that happen? I thought they pissed on some Teleban scum.

  • wow! thats soo cool!

  • In my opinion, the toughest ship in the history of the US Navy. She served her country well. God bless her and those who served on her.

  • Something is really depressing about looking at a sunken ship. I mean seriously am i the only one saddened when i see a ship wreck?

  • @warhawk9566 The reason why you feel that way is because you see the end result of something sad. It represents a scene where life was lost or destruction occurred.

  • Dr.Robert Ballard discovered the Titanic!!!

  • wow. this long under water and shes still in good condition

  • Modelman44 You need to check your history again. We only lost the Uss Yorktown at Midway. The Uss Hornet CV8 was sunk at the battle of Santa Cruz Islands on the 27th of October 1942.

  • II should like to point out that 1 nautical mile is 6060 feet;reduced for all navigational calculations to 6000.Therefore 17000 feet is 2,8 miles down or2800 fathoms.

  • I'm very honored to be acquainted with a Yorktown survivor and I just showed him this clip - he was impressed. He was was a gunnery officer aboard Yorktown from 1939-42 (yes, he's quite old, but super sharp) and he directed his ship's anti-aircraft guns at Coral Sea and Midway. He wasn't just there, he actually saw the dive bombers and torpedo planes coimg in. He swam from Yorktown wearing a shrapnel riddled life jacker he took from one of his dead gunners. God bless ya Harvey!

  • if its in that good of condition raise it 17k feet down is hard but we have the technolgy to do it

  • @graham1996 That may be true, but why would we want to raise her? The cost and the risks involved would be staggering.

  • great model.

  • usually they never tell you about the light carriers or escort carriers in major battles the only ones mentioned are the major combants like fleet carriers ,battleships and cruisers.

  • the lost 4 fleet carriers + several light and escort carriers. the us also lost several escort carriers at midway.

  • @Takao71534 Japan Lost 4 carriers and 1 cruiser. The US Lost 1 carrier and 1 destroyer at Midway.

  • @Takao71534 Pardon me, Sir, but I think your information regarding both Japanese and American carrier losses is incorrect, at least according to every book I've read on the subject, including "Time Life" and the book, "Midway". Neither fleet lost any light or escort carriers at Midway. Speaking for American carrier forces only, I don't think escort carriers were part of our fleets in 1942. For a short period of time, the only carrier we had afloat was "Enterprise", CV 6.

  • @christiansoldier1968 CV(N)-6 was the only carrier afloat in the Pacific, I can't remember what other carier we had afloat, but it's was in the Atlantic. I think.

  • @ps3guy201 carrier*

  • @ps3guy201 you're correct and I mispoke. I should have said "afloat in the Pacific". I "think" that "Saratoga" was serving as a training carrier and that "Ranger" was in the Atlantic.

  • @Takao71534 There where no US escort carriers at midway, only fleet carriers. The only US carrier lost at midway was the Yorktown.

  • 17,000 feet? are you sure that's right coz it's pretty deep. Thats 3.2 miles!

  • @alextheplumber Yes. I have the book and it clearly states 17,000 feet down.

  • @modelman44 wow incredible! Must have been spooky being at the controls of the robotic submersible and watching the camera view on screen. Any idea how long it took for the submersible to reach it?

  • @modelman44 18,000 Feet actually... 3000 Fathom.. (1 Fathom = 6 Feet).. do the math :)

  • @modelman44 about 500 ft off it sank in 3,000 fathoms (5,500 m) of water =18044.6194226 Feet (ft)

  • @alextheplumber The Titanic is in almost 13,000 feet of water and that is in the Atlantic. The Pacific is deeper. And Midway Islands are the oldest and farthest northern islands in the Hawaiian chain. And are right in the middle of the Pacific... its very very deep- Yes the book is correct its 17,000 feet!

  • What's the name of the song ? Who is the composer ? Thank's !

  • @13Todesengel I will have the answer for you soon. Thanks

  • @13Todesengel : "après un rêve" ("after a dream") - Gabriel Fauré (lyrics available on youtube)

    My pleasure :-D

  • Long memjry of brave american sailors!!!They died like a hero!!! Never forget they!

  • ok jojo29 but there are good dive story sites on the web also. Try the myscubastory site. They have lots of true diving stories and some graphic dive accident videos! Type myscubastory into google and its the first one.

  • Had Yorktow made it back to port she would have been repaired. We were desparate for carriers. For a time after the battle of Santa Cruz,we had only the damaged Enterprise in the Pacific.Lexington,Yorktown,Wasp asnd Hornet had been sunk and Saratoga was laid up for repairs from a torpedo hit.The Ranger was in the Atlantic.

  • How many ships have the name Hornet

  • @TheMrRistro i count 8 ships named Hornet ( 2 of thoughs carriers)

  • Yea, my grandpa saw the hornet sink at Santa Cruz, in fact, he had some pictures of it in some scrap book somewhere.

  • hornet sank at santa cruz not midway

  • Lol the hornet was not suck at Midway. only the Yorktown was, she was hit once repaired the flight deck and was bombed again the Japanese believe they sunk 2 Carriers witch they really only suck 1 and the Americans abandoned the Yorktown and she was later hit more by a Jap Sub. learn your navel history please or watch Battle 360 first battle is midway learn something. about the battle even if the show is Based on the YT's sister the Big E CVN-6

  • Actually a nice idea for a diorama. I don't understand why half of the rating is negative.

  • Even if Yorktown survived the battle, her return to service was doubtful. She had severe structural damage from Coral Sea. it was a bandage job to get her to Midway as she required 5-6 months of work was was put back in 72 hours. She then survived two major attacks at Midway, was abandoned, but then a skeleton crew returned. Had the sub not sunk her, they could've gotten her to port. However, the damage was severe and like the Franklin she would never see combat again if she survived.

  • Uhm the USS Hornet wasn't sunk at Midway. Uss Lexington was sunk at the battle of Coral Sea. USS yorktown escaped that battle with Major damage. Which is why after she returned to Pearl Harbor she set out in he own task force. Enterprise and Hornet were in 1 task force and Yorktown was in a second. USS Hornet was sunk at the Battle of the Santa Cruz Islands (after helping defend Guadalcanal. )

  • USS Midway is in Long Beach California... And Queen Mary too.

  • u forgot the Akagi was lost at Midway she was also a Pearl Harbor carrier the other Pearl carriers were the Shokaku and Zuikaku they died later in the war so none of the orginal carries that attacked Pearl didn't survive the war themselves. but a beautiful model well done

  • Just a clarification...The Hornet was sunk more than 4 months after Midway by multiple bomb and torpedo hits during the Battle of the Santa Cruz Islands.

  • To all who served on the Yorktown, God bless you for your sacrifice. You embody the spirit that has made America as great as she is. It's because of you that so many enjoy the fruits of freedom. This generation and many more. GOD BLESS YOU!!!

  • the yorktown is in charleston s.c.......does that mean she was razed?

  • @pawnworks It's a different Yorktown, The name was re-used.

  • @pawnworks When the Yorktown CV-5 was sunk they renamed the BonholmRichard CV-10 to the Yorktown. BR was then given to another carrier.

  • @modelman44 so they forgot about her?? T_T im crying now!!

  • @modelman44 hey do you have a website where you show off all ur products???

  • @BlueBig22 Yes. You can go to facebook and look up Randall Reynolds Naval Scale Modeler.

  • @pawnworks No thats another Yorktown The USS Yorktown CV-10

  • @pawnworks ya he is right... i did go on that yorktown but that one is an essex class carrier (the newer carriers in ww2) the original yorktown was the yorktown class carriers (the older carriers)

I got confused to at first

  • I got it, the USS Hornet was sunk at the battle of the Santa Curz

  • The USS Hornet was lost during the Battle of Santa Cruz in Oct. 1942. The USS Lexington was lost during the Battle of Coral Sea in May 1942. Of the 3 carriers that we had at the outbreak of WW2, all were sunk but the USS Enterprise. She was later scrapped. All of the lost carries have been found via cordinates though I dont believe that they have been visited.

  • @gwad1961 Uh, not quite. We had eight carriers at the outbreak of the war. Enterprise, Ranger, and Saratoga all survived the war.

  • Try watching the Video "From Pearl to tokyo" in my list of videos. Thank you.

  • I love it have you done the USS Arizona yet?

It would be ne'er to see

    From a fan

    Rob olson

  • they still haven't found that one jap carrier yet right?

  • @ArchMadman which one?

  • @modelman44

I think it's the main wreck of the IJN Kaga. They found a couple pieces, but no main wreck site.

  • @ArchMadman yep

  • @ArchMadman As far I know, they know the locations of Japanese CV's. But from what I understand the Japanese government is very protective of the wreck sites and it is very much against their beliefs to visit these sites for what ever reasons.

  • @ArchMadman Yes they did. They just had to squint to see it.

  • @ArchMadman I assume your talking about the 4th Jap carrier that Henry Fonda wanted. They did find it and sink it before it got away from Midway but it's planes and a Jap sub got The Yorktown first. Well the sub finished it off a little later.

  • @ArchMadman I thought they lost 4 carriers. I wished their wrecks would have been represented in the book as well.

  • Nice work, the lighting really makes it pop

  • the Hornet survived Midway and was the carrier that launched the Doolittle raid much later... she was attacked and sunk in the Battle of the Santa Cruz Islands in Oct. 1942.

  • @ZeusMG Doolittle Raid, April 42; Battle of Midway, June 42. Just a friendly FYI.

  • The Lexington was the only carrier to be lost. The Hornet was quite happy after the campaign...

But hey: an island can´t be attacked by torpedo bombers like you wrote in the beginning, only by dive or high flying bombers.

  • @anonymusum dude torpedo bombers where often used as high flying bombers due to their high capacity of weapon load which was bigger than smaller dive bombers. actually the japanese were replacing their torpedoes for bombs for a second wave over midway when the dauntless arrived, so with a few hits the dauntless caused several chain explosions due to bombs and torpedoes unsafely stored outside their magazines in jap-carriers

  • @DarKaptain

Yes - I know that. But the way you wrote it the japs attacked Midway with torpedoes. Funny idea .....

  • Nice work !

is it a real aquarium ? can you put fishes in it ?

  • Really nice job done by you. As a fellow modeler and retired diver I can really appreciate what you have accomplished here.

  • @Polaris688

The USS Lexington is decommissioned and is moored in a port in Corpus Christi, TX. They turned her into a WWII museum.

  • 1941

  • what bout the four Japanese carriers that sank at midway? none of them have been found.

  • The saddest story, to me? The story of the most decorated American warship of WW2. 911 aircraft destroyed, 20 service stars, 71 enemy ships sunk. Her fate? turned into scrap metal. The ship? USS Enterprise.

  • @ke4bss Yes it's sad. Of the pre-WW2 carirriers only 3 of 8 survived, Saratoga, Ranger and Enterprise. None was saved. Ranger was scrapped, Saratoga sunk after a atomic bomb test, and Enterpris "The Big E" was scrapped as you wrote. The most awarded and decorated US-ship of the WW2 ("The Big E") was scrapped. It even got British Admalty Pennant. The first an only one outside Royal Navy.

  • I saw a flick on Netflix about the guy who found the Titanic, and the Bismark and at Midway found the Yorktown but could not find the Kaga. It was very touching cuz he had veterans from both carriers with him on his exploration. The Yorktown was laying on the bottom of the sea with her anit-aircraft guns still pointed skywards. As if to fend off any air attack by the Japs.

  • The reason why some of the carriers was sunk by their own destroyers, was to prevent the Japanese from capture the ships. With Yorktown a destroyer was sunk (Uss Hammann) She was assisting with the salvage off Y, and was alongside with the carrier. And between the sinking of Wasp and Hornet, Uss Saratoga was damaged by a Jap sub. So after the loss of Hornet, Big E (Uss Enterprise) was the only operational CV in the Pacific.

    Y, H, L, (Essex-class) is now museum ships.

    Info from Wikipedia.

  • Some bad months for the US Navy, they lost Lady Lex (Uss Lexington) In Coral Sea 8th May. She was damaged by planes and sunk by Us destoyer. Uss Yorktown at Midway 7th June.Damaged by planes and sunk by a Jap sub when the Us was trying too save her. Uss Wasp at Guadalcanal 15th September . Damaged by a Jap sub sunk by a Us destroy. Uss Hornet at Santa Cruz 27th October. She was damaged by planes and sunk by Jap destroy (after Us destroy failed to do it).

All 4 got a Essex carrier name.

  • this is wrong- hornet was not lost at Midway- please get the history right ?

  • We Navy fellas must bring those carriers back to the surface!

  • you know interesting thing about the YORKTOWN as many as time she was hit she stayed afloat long enough to have her crew rescued.

  • @usselliot76 Close. Battle of the Coral Sea was May 4-8 1942. The Battle of Midway was June 4-9 1942. So really only a month apart. Yorktown barely got back to Pearl Harbor to get patched up and fight in the Battle of Midway following her participation in the Coral Sea campaign.

  • sill looks good

  • Nice job!

  • Did they ever find the Hornet? i know she was sunk but we found almost all of our ships in the pacific. How many of ours have we found. that is my question.

  • @USSWISCONSIN64 As far as I know the Yorktown is the only one but I COULD be mistaken. The Lexington and the Hornet are still out there but I haven't seen any information regarding their status. Thanks for watching!

  • @modelman44 Enterprise, lexington, & Hornet were at midway along with the Yorktown.

  • @kdraper2007 Naw, I think it was the Nimitz, the USS Enterpoop, The Constellation and the Harry S. Truman and they were using nuclear weapons, baby!!!

Go check your facts, Lexington was lost at the Battle of the Coral Sea at which the USS Yorktown was severely damaged. ONLY the Enterprise, Hornet and Yorktown were at Midway.

  • @modelman44 They named new Essex class carriers after the Carriers that had been sunk early on. in fact, an Essex class carrier was named Yorktown.

  • @modelman44 If we can find everyone of our ships. that would be cool. cause it would be nice to see them again. like the Yorktown. we found her. we can find the rest.

  • @modelman44 No the HOrnet has not yet been found. Part of the problem with seaching for shipwreaks is that they are so damn hard to find and it is super expensive to look. Even with all the charts ect there is no guarentee that you will actually find what your looking for. In todays depressed economy I can not see many companies willing to part with the cash to look for and only MAYBE find a ship wreak. In the future perhaps, but not right now.

  • @modelman44 The Lexington is now a museum in Corpus Christi.

  • @IXB34RXI Wrong mate. Original Lexington (CV 2) was sunk at Coral Sea in 1942. Your talking about the Essex class carrier (CV 16) that was named in her honour.

  • @modelman44 Wait the USS Hornet? I know it never sank.

  • @swatphil1 it sank but at a future battle I believe at Santa Cruz.

  • @USSWISCONSIN64 Hornet was lost in the Coral sea, down near the solomons. Yorktown was the only American carrier lost at midway. the Japanease at the time thought they had sunk 2 carriers. but they had hit the Yorktown twice.

  • @USSWISCONSIN64 The Hornet was sunk ay Guadualcanal, not at Midway. Her wreck has not been wound to date. The Lexington went down at the Battle of the Coral Sea, which was prior to the midway battle.

  • @carsmasher too bad they didn't find her. would be cool to see her again.

  • @carsmasher I hope they do find the Lexington in the future. Could you imagine had she had survived to take part in the Battle of Midway.

  • @USSWISCONSIN64 These are the coordinates for the USS Hornet (CV-8), as supplied by Wikipedia. Coordinates: 8°38′23″S 166°42′34″E

And these are the coordinates for the USS Lexington (CV-2) also supplied by Wikipedia.15°20′S 155°30′E.

    Hope that answers your question.

  • @MrFarmer110 thanks. now i need a couple deep sea subs to find them : )

  • @USSWISCONSIN64 I think the ship was sunk a little after she launched the planes for the doolittle raid

  • @gochargersfan1 she was sunk in the Battle of the Santa Cruz Islands, 27 October 1942. but with every thing we know. how can we not find her yet?

  • @USSWISCONSIN64 i would guess its because the ocean is big, and its hard to find sunken ships

  • @gochargersfan1 true but with tech and patience. We can find anything in the pacific. Just have to try.

  • @gochargersfan1 The Doolittle Raid was done before Midway. It actually helped to cause Midway because the Japanese redirected from Australia to trying to knock the Americans back in the Pacific by getting Midway and Hawaii. It just didn't turn out that way for them.

  • @tryithere Not quite. The Doolittle raid didn't cause Midway. The Japanese were still going for Aust. even after the raid, which became the Battle of the Coral Sea. Midway was always in the Japanese war plan if the Americans didn't surrender after PH. The Japanese wanted to control almost all islands in the Pacific and that included Midway. The Coral Sea turned out to be the first real defeat of the Japanese Navy.

  • @Toddinfantry The Doolittle raid caused the Japs to go to Midway way before they had planned to push The US further back in the Pacific so we couldn't bomb the homeland.

  • @Toddinfantry Coral Sea was more of a draw, but it was the first time the IJN had ever been stopped.

  • @IDF1987 If you look at just materials, then it was almost a draw. And it was the first real defeat for the Japanese Navy, no real damage had been done to them yet, other than the defense of Wake Atoll. The real defeat was in the minds of the Japanese...the invincible Navy had been stopped, and while the Japanese would con't to fight hard, the humiliation of the loss was always with them. This battle was very significant...it seconded the motion at Wake that the Americans would fight.

  • @gochargersfan1 It was sunk months later but it was sunk.

  • @gochargersfan1 I think your right

  • @USBornSoccerPlayer lexington was sunk in coral sea battle an yorktown was the only one carrier sunked at midway in ally side!! hornet was sunked later in santa cruz

  • @rafteam1 Lexington was sunk at Coral sea after suffering a fuel vapor explosion after being severely damaged, Yorktown was badly damaged at Coral Sea, the repairs were estimated to take six months, but were completed in 3 days so that Yorktown would be availiable for the Midway op.

  • @USBornSoccerPlayer lexington was sunk in coral sea battle an yorktown was the only one carrier sunked at midway in ally side

  • @USBornSoccerPlayer if the lexington was sunk then how come its in corpus christi texas

  • @muddnutt2000 They renamed the Essex Class Carrier Lexington after the first one was sunk during the battle of the Coral Sea. If you look further, they did the same thing with the Hornet also. Thank you for your interest. Hope you liked the video.

  • @modelman44 Also the USS Wasp, which was torpedoed by a Japanese sub in the Solomons. Her successor of course was USS Wasp CV-18 in the Essex Class.

  • @USBornSoccerPlayer You are unfortunately wrong. The Lexington was sunk at the Battle of Santa Cruz. The Hornet was lost much later in the Solomon islands I believe.

  • @modelman44 Lexington was actually sunk May 7, 1942 at the Coral Sea battle, a month before Midway.

  • @galoon correction--May 8, '42; my bad!

  • USS Lexington sunk at Coral Sea May 7th 1942. Heavily damaged, she was sunk by torpedoes from a US destoyer to prevent capture.

  • @modelman44 your both wrong Hornet was sunk in the Solomons along with USS Wasp...Lexington was sunk at the Battle of the Coral Sea about 4 months before midaway

  • @usselliot76 wrong hornet is in california, not sunk

  • @mixerd0822 the first Hornet CV-8 was sunk at the Battle of the Santa Cruz Islands in Oct 1942. They built a second Hornet CV-12 which is the one in CA.

  • @jck148 thanks for the info, god bless all fighting men lost.

  • @usselliot76 Coral Sea was only one month before Midway.

  • How many Carriers went down at Midway apart from Yorktown and Akagi?

By the way has the Akagi been found ??

    Nice modle as well done

  • @thebritish25 Ther were three other carriers sunk, all Japanese. The Kaga, The Soiyu, The Hiryu.

  • @thebritish25 Kaga, Soryu, and Hiryu. These 4 Jap carriers took part in the Pearl Harbor attack 6 months earlier.

  • @warhawk40 Don't forget the IJN carrier 'Akagi', which was the command ship for both the attacks on Pearl Harbor and Midway.

  • Very impressive postage, clear the huge midship hole at port side, consequence of the second IJN Hiryu desperate attack, leaded by Joichi Tomonaga half fueled Nakajima B4N2 Kate torpedo-bomber (10 Nakajimas escorted by six Zeros). The first IJN Hiryu attack (18 Vall dive-bombers) produced three bomb impacts. Hiryu captain Tomeo Kaku planed a third strike (5 Vall and 4 Kates) at the end of afternoon, but Dauntless dive-bombers attacked in advance. Congratulations, splendid work.

  • @CaxiasFreguesia Sounds like you know your history. Thank you for your post!

  • Very impressive postage, clear the huge midship hole at port side, consequence of the second IJN Hiryu desperate attack, leaded by Joichi Tomonaga half fueled Nakajima B4N2 Kate torpedo-bomber (10 Nakajimas escorted by six Zeros). • amazing work ! thanks for sharing it !

i´m building cv-9 essex and i think that ´s a giant step forward in design, compared to the yorktowns.

  • Uss yorktown was the ship that sank in midway.

i know this class of ship are alive.they refuse to sink and will fight to stay commission. An example of Us navy might!

  • @kamikazeboy123

i dont under stand what your saying

  • what about the uss lexington has or is anyone searching for her

  • @MasterBattle2000 not sure. not a whole lot of info on her. I can make the same the same style of diorama with the lexington if your interested

  • @modelman44 okay that would be cool the mystery aircraft carrier

  • @MasterBattle2000 lexington burnt and exploded before sinking i can't imagine her been in better shape than the yorktown/

  • @MasterBattle2000 She went down in the Coral sea and as of August 2010 has not been found

  • I will be making this model in 1/144 scale in the fall 2010

  • @modelman44 looking forward to see it (:

  • TheHunteroo is 100%correct. Hornet was lost at Santa Cruz, not Midway.

  • @BIGBUCK20 You are all correct. Should have paid attention to that. My mistake.

  • The USS Hornet will never be found off Midway. She was lost at sea, after the battle of Santa Cruz islands on 27 Oct. 1942. That is almost 4 and a half months after, the battle at Midway ended 6 June 1942.

On the other hand, your diorama is very good and I'd give it 2 thumbs up.
