  • Art is the abstraction of the dance that is life.

  • @poprockssuck87 holy fucking shit someone is high as motherfucking shit! Probably on shrooms too! But seriously, smart one kid!

  • 'Art' needs to be qualified. Semantically it's ambiguous, but dispensing with the 'good/bad, it's all art' stance, I think that to be an artist, it's not enough to simply have something to say (we all do) or to have a medium through which you want to say it (painting, music, literature, dance etc), but to be someone who by creative eloquency and vision, talent and developed practical skill, can create a work that expresses its' statement in a way which a lay person would not be able to execute.

  • Beautifully said.

  • Thank you :-) Good luck with your new channel- it sounds like a winner.

  • Thanks. I sure hope so.

  • maybe art is something that astonishes people whatever situation of life they are in..

  • My definition of "art":

Art is the output of the following 3-step process:

    1. Do something.

    2. Call it art.

    3. Believe it, or convince someone else to believe it.

  • lmao im an artist with at least a sense of humor rather then taking it all so seriously

  • The word art is the most meaningless word in the whole of the english language.

  • I have learned since taste in art is subjective that art is about technical abilities. So basically art is art when it is made up of the right technique and use of the medium you use (brush, paint, camera) composition, shapes, contrast and meaning.

  • nope, you have just defined "Kitsch"...there is a difference between learing something and creating something.

  • Maybe that's true. But the guy said if I create something it's called art. So going to the toilet is too? Aheh. Maybe in a way it's for others to decide wether it's art. The artist's job is to create something that a normal person isn't able to do. And that's their technique(s)/creativity.

  • grageband is not destroying the record companies if u dont like it blame wat they put out dont blame the softwear

  • Art is what you do in a darkage.

  • I think the interviewer is art.... Wow...

  • The arts may have lost some of their popularity as tools to 'educate the souls of men' ('soul? is that some part of the brain?'). Nevertheless, everybody retains to some extent a desire for what is healthy, just, harmonious, penetrating and true.

  • Holy crap! another hard hitting issue.was this vid made before or after the DP session. and why do u guys keep giggling? are you on something?

  • art is me writing me name with my jizz on your forhead

  • The exact definition of "Art" is subjective, but in simple terms it it beauty that can be presented in any form, colour or medium; anything that conveys a a sense of emotion, be it, beauty, discust, horror, anxiety, joy, etc (the list is endless).

  • Art is about giving form to a purpose. Anything that is done for the purpose of inspiring people is art. Conveying emotions as such is not art. For something to have some value as art, it must be challenging yet graspable, it must offer a solution to a problem, and has to have something with which the audience can relate to.

  • I think Art is a word for all creativity.

This is distinct from the word Craft, which describes occupation.

eg:- an abstract painting is Art.

    but

a representational painting copied skillfully from a photo is craft.

Certainly the photo itself is art, because of the choice selected by the photographer. And hence the Artists choice of that particular photo is art, but the process of rendering it into a painting is strictly craft.

  • Art is about giving form to a purpose. The classical tradition had it right. A story without a moral isn't a story. A song that doesn't inspire is not a song.

  • So you're basically implying that all Art must have meaning and purpose? How then would you justify Abstract and Surreal Art? These often have no complex meaning or 'story' behind them.

  • Clear your head puppet. lol

  • art is something that looks like everyone in the world but nobody in the world resembles it. example.....the skeleton, everyone in the world has it inside them but it has no skin color, no hair color, no eye color etc...

  • WTF? what do you mean exactly?

  • if art is relative, then why dont you paint something and see if it would be accepted by anyone in the art world...guess what ill bet any amount of money it wont because your'e clueless! look if you could paint a picture describing how art is relative then youd be famous but you cant because youre without talent!

  • art is relative.

  • Things that people usually consider that it's okay to call "art" involve the expression of creativity in some way, intentionally for the purpose of being "art" or not. Anything we do can be done artfully ;)

  • That makes no fucking sense. Being an Artist, myself, I cannot relate to that on any level, because basically you arguing the point that all people in the world are artists, therefor all things they do or form should be considered art. Would you say that a bin-man's job is 'creating Art', as he will collecting bags of rubbish and throw them in a big pile in a rubbish dump?

  • Way to be a dense dickhead. Maybe I should have put a "but" at the beginning of the last sentence? Yes, a bin-man can do his job in a new and creative way, and yes, I would call that artful. The words "artful" and "Art" aren't necessarily directly connected. So get your head out of your ass.

  • Porque no follais mas y hablais menos. Ella esta cachonda. Animo.

Y el arte es la sublimación del sexo ¿o no?.

  • it's all art. even potatoe chips.

  • you're confusing beauty with matter and substance. The two are not necessarily related. Are you referring to 'natural beauty'? Even in that context, a potato chip wouldn't be classified as Art, so I'm very sorry but means you're wrong.

  • you're funny. especially this part "I'm very sorry but means you're wrong." nice debate tactic. just declare yourself the winner and the other person the looser. heheheh. like i said, funny stuff.

  • What is art? Art is anything that anyone appreciates (or has ever appreciated) for having inherent aesthetic value. By this definition, art is something at least slightly different to everyone, due to the fact that "aesthetic value" is largely subjective.

  • Ron Paul

  • I believe genuine art is an outcry.

It's the artists who've lived hard, bitter

lives who engender the most compelling,

inspiring art. They create on a visceral

level, from the soul. Many artists out there

are born geniuses. They have high IQ's thus

can do anything, including paint draw etc.

very well. They create with their minds,

instead of their souls and that is only

    impressive to a point.

  • You know...watching your videos and reading the comments i came to realize that there are so many guys out there who are intimidated by intelligent ambitious women and who try to classify these women as sluts and whores because those are the types of women they're apparently comfortable with. Keep up what you're doing and ignore the haters.

  • ...pretty nice thought...

  • Couldn't say better myself.

    Keep up the great work.

  • it's the expression of emotion through creation. simple.

  • Some guy once told me "Art might be all the work done to lift the human spirit".

  • yeah it worked didnt it...... he tapped that thing.

  • hey i know a video you can make, tell us how your going to clean up todays media when you can't even keep yours straight.

  • If I shot a load on her face , then took a picture of it, WOULD IT BE ART!

  • yes it would

  • Art is a product of self-expression.

The act of creation is in itself, very gratifying.

As far as people's opinions on art, or art critics....you can learn a lot from critical praise or analysis.....but you do what you based on your individual level and interest.

IMHO Art is a huge conversation. If you create something and put it out into the air, you are in essence joining that dialog.

  • I would love to see those 2 guys bang her! That would be a great porn flick! Wow! Wouldn't she be famous then? Hell .. yea!

  • I am Art, that settles it

  • That puppet...um, no comment ...

  • Art can be anything and everything. The guy on the left commenting that all art needs an audience is not true either. Many people do art as a catharsis and you don't need an audience for that.

  • Hurrah for puppet-prurience!

Art is whatever makes the art-nostril quiver?

Thanks, I'll be here all millennium, try the implants!

  • this chick is a moron!

  • Hey prokkets - you sound quite "educated" ..learn how to spell, dumbass.

  • it's art if it moves you!

    these videos ARE getting weaker

  • I think art is the transfer of thoughts and emotions into a viable vessel, be it paintbrush or piana

  • Greetings from México, Lori. I always enjoy your show! By the way, we are not that bad in México as you comment in one of your latest videos.

    Bye!!

  • these videos are getting weaker and weaker.

  • You are so good, goodbye Lori

  • Another good video! I agree that art takes all forms and it is up to to individuals to interpret and determine if the art is good or not.

  • I always saw art as a representation of an emotion, a thought and/or the soul of the viewer/listener and the artist, good or bad.

  • People have been creating "art" long before i remember,..Art to me is Creation ..Creation implies Destruction , Destruction implies creation ...to start over anew with a stronger foundation... this is why i have two profiles :p

  • no way! they did stop-motion for Nickelodeon!? I wonder if they did lots of the weird stuff back in the day when i would watch the channel. video snippets inbetween shows and commercials and such.

  • To me, art is the expression of the soul. (sounds cheesy but I think that's a pretty pinpoint description for my personal take on art)

  • Punkt.

  • nice

  • What Art Is: The Esthetic Theory of Ayn Rand, written by Louis Torres & Michelle Marder Kamhi. Outstanding reading!...and it really puts to rest the question "What is art?"

  • charged aint bad ;-) loved the interview lori,q's ppl wanna know, kept em on their toes,so 2 speak. ) art to me is watching your vids..be good ;-) x

  • Art is anything made by a human the only purpose of which is to make others think. If it has any secondary use, however beautiful it may be, it is classified as a craft. Glad I could finally clear that up for the world.

Now don't ever ask this question again because I'm really really sick of it.

  • You're an excellent interviewer, it was upbeat, interesting, good questions.

  • i only wish my parents allowed me to have rightious opinions like this, instead of locking me in the basement all day....

they don't have their own basement, they use the neighbor's basement....

this is where my skills at mathematics grew...

yea, that's right... i'm a nerd math chick with glasses. so what?

remember leonardo fibonacci he was a numeral theologist!

  • yes, i do remember leonardo, he of the fibonacci sequence. what kind of an ungrateful wretch could forget his contribution??? sorry about the whole basement thing, sounds pretty rough, actually. were you talking about my righteous opinions or theresident's opinions?

  • Thanks nicholas. I try!

  • what a junk!

    unsubscribing.

  • Art is a creative expression of an idea, emotion or premise. There's a contradiction is stating something is "high art" or "low art" as by low art we usually mean "not art" which is a paradox. It's all subjective, unless there is a collectively accepted guideline that designates what is high art that can be claimed to be objective.

  • P.S. I WIN!

  • Haha, you totally win thejobloshow!

  • Huh!

  • There is creation, and then there's art. Art is a special type of creation. Art is a creation that exists on the verge of order and chaos. Art is fragile enough that a mere change of thought can transform it into greater chaos or greater order. Art is the balance of extremes on the wire of reason.

  • fashion whats with the shorts

  • I knew Art in high school. We called him one-ball-Artie because he was born with only one nut, but was otherwise pretty normal. I think he did hang at MOMA for a while but they busted him.

  • hey res i thought you said you were going to give me some props for this on lol..........

  • I thought Pyrate from my message board gave me this one - is that you username?

  • other people might had asked you about this but me and you talked about this in early june, thats alright its no big deal..........

  • i took a pole on ART NEWS magazine, 88% of ads, previewed mens shows, 88% of the articles were written about men, 93% of the Gallery's showed mens art. I wrote the magazine with my study on pushing such a one gender culture in their magazine, they never responded. Gee i thought the one place on earth, in america and the humanities would treat females equal. hmmm guess not by the statistics.

  • my definition of art is a way of thinking.not painting, drawing, music or making a movie ect...

  • L'intention suffirait... même sans le moindre talent ni travail. Ha ha ha ! Universels démagos !

  • "I make art, until someone dies. See? I am the world's first fully-functioning, homicidal artist." - The Joker, Batman

  • thnx for bringing zum intellect to youtube=)

    i really appreciate that!!!

  • yay i'm glad you made a video about art! great job i love seeing you each week!

  • The guy in the video did not DEFINE art. You can't use the word you are trying to define in your definition. Essentially he said "Art is what it is if you are trying to create art." Huh???!!!

HERE'S the definition of art: "Art is a selective re-creation of reality designed to take an idea from the conceptual to the perceptual level of consciousness."

  • brad: i think you're right, but somehow I believe most people think that art means the "art piece" is not utilitarian, or it is not _primarily_ utilitarian.

  • Art is something that provokes a reaction from those that observe it.

As it was said in the Woody Allen picture 'Stardust Memories' - "Do you want to do mankind a real service? Tell funnier jokes."

    :P

  • By this definition I can confidently say the Resident is an artist. :D

  • Hey thanks bikenik! Sometimes I feel like a pixelpusher, looking into a computer so much. :)

  • [I think art is... any product of any person's creativity that elicits an emotional response...] So even if it's crap, in the event that someone should take time to stop and say, "That sucks." The effort has been validated. The only truly bad art then being, ignored art.

  • So, you've never felt absolutely neutral about a piece of music, a poem, or a painting?

  • I actually found myself thinking about invisible/embedded art, after posting that... Like, I dunno... Indistinguishable counterfeit designer items or something, the emotional response then lies only with the artist. (As with any ignored piece, I suppose.)

  • Im watching theresident O_O

  • An old, well let's say 'timeless" unanswerable question. The flaw is in the asking..ie define something subjective. What really interests me is the idea that new technology will uncover great art.I fully expected +1yr ago for Youtube to become the place for new film talent.Sorry to say I haven't seen it yet.Has anyone?

  • popeye: a recommendation: a yt clip is a piece of art in itself. why define it in terms of some other art form, e.g. film?? I say learn to love this place for what it is, and for some of the innovative people who have turned out to be entertaining.

  • neat new aspect...

    i like this channel

    and what you produce :D

  • Thanks Jeffamite!

  • I LOVE YOUTUBE THANKS YOUTUBE

  • Hello,Lori.

I always thought 'Art" was a man with no arms and no legs, hanging on a museum wall.

Thank you,I'll be doing 2 shows a night this weekend. Please tip the bartenders and waitstaff.

  • Good one Blarg. :)

  • I notice you nod your head alot..... just an observation...

  • Art = The Resident

  • It is easier to define what Art IS NOT. Finally a Resident topic I can share and relate to. Keep it real ! Respect.

  • Thanks watzupdawg, glad you liked it!

  • Can someone explain online dating to me ? An idea for a segment ?

  • Art can be accidental and unintentional.

Art is subjective... as is whether it's bad or good.

    Love me some 'The Resident'.

Good balance of 'hot button topics' & sensationalism w/ personal stories.

ps: how much is that puppet?

  • Good vid!

  • I loved all your videos ever posted except for this one. Very boring IMO. Maybe, I need more coffee.

  • yaay animation!

  • Claymation and other traditional arts should not be underestimated, even when high tech improves the toolbags and alternatives. Ultimately it still all comes down to talent - that's what makes art.

  • Fisrt of I wold like to say how muchit friggin pisses me off that ppl leave weak comments like "firts :D or, 2'd YAY!" stupid ppl say something about the video and then Id like to say WOO HOO ART!!! Tech if you ask me makes art harder cuz theres so much more that you can do with it now I love it I do art with all mediums and tech still rocks it!!! YAY CG art^.^

  • well you (at least i) dont always have something to say about a video even if i enjoyed watching it. and stupid comments stil contribute to getting a video higher on the most discussed list. as long as its not a hateful comment i dont see why somebody could get pissed off. oh so sorry.

  • well if you enjoyed watching it you do indeed have something to say "I enjoyed watching that" or maby saying what part you enjoyed most maby? You have a mind fulla things to say try saying thouse things and you'll be contibuting in a legit way :D I meeen realy is it that important to be first to comment? Id rather say "awsome vid" then "FIRST!"

  • I love your stuff

  • (one of the) FIRST! HA!
