I think this game had a better world and history than the playstation Final Fantasies. The music is pretty good in LoD, but it doesn't really compare to Nobuo Uematsu's compositions for FF. As far as graphical achievement goes, I'll give it to FF8 hands down. The fact that it could mix cinematic quality scenes with character interaction was badass for the time. I think Rinoa would be hotter in real life than Shana. LoD beats FF in combat mechanics. Hm... I like both games though.

@4Got10Shadow This game was epic no matter how you look at it. There are only a few good FF, most of them are just thrown together for cash. COUGHCOUGHCxnx2COUGH. It doesn't need 10 thousand titles of games that are indirect sequels/prequels.

@Leotribal since when? Final fantasy 7 was great. So was 9, and ten and twelve, and thirteen, and tactics. even 8 wasn't THAT bad. Heck, Tactics was one of the better ones for storyline even. Legend of Dragoon is good, but so are many many other rpgs. Breath of Fire III, Legend of Legaia, etc.

@kingofbudokai Surprisingly i agree with you on , 9 bof3, legaia, tactics was epic. but 10 was mediocre. I beat it once never touched it again. I tried 10-2 and hated it. 8 12 13 just didnt appeal to me.

@Leotribal Really? What is it you don't like about ff10? 12 was iffy, but it was still worth playing through. and 13 I like actually. but final fantasy 10 I have played through a minimum of 6 times. What is it that you don't like? It has the best plotline of the ff games so far I think.

LOD was designed to be, and marketed as "The Final Fantasy killer". No involvement from Squaresoft on any front with it's production. As for Enix, I can't say. They weren't together with Square at the time.

@RPGVamp I... don't think so. At least when it came out, it was advertised as a total Sony joint. Sony owns the IP, and SCEI developed it in cooperation with Polyphony Digital (who did the cutscenes). Some of the ex-members of the development team (6-7 of them, iirc) went on to work on FFX, Dirge of Cerberus and other SE games (mostly those who worked on the CG). At the end of the day, it's Sony's IP, so you should ask them to give you a sequel/put it on PSN. :)

@asukacrystalrose actually, he's right. squaresoft/squareenix didn't do anything to develop the game, however, after a failed attempt at making a sequel in Japan, Square bought the rights. no news on what they plan to do, but i'm hoping for an HD makeover with full voice acting, and that the underground adventure get's put back in the american version.

i used to save the game where the theme is played where Dart first transforms into the Red Eye Dragoon and whams Kongol across the street. All in all one of my post favorite theme songs of all time. LOD was my favorite game for the PS1, and I still have my copy and my PS1
