  • lol couldnt stop laughing. xD

  • There is no constitutional ground for the defense of marriage act, because you would have to violate the constitution amendment that you are changing. Big fat period, end of story.

Though it will support same sex marriage. There is no way around the constitution. You can't just change it while violating it. Think about it folks. Can you ban marriage under the constitution all together? if not, then there you go!

  • Hahahaha..... Good parody!

  • PROTECT MARRIAGE!!! BAN DIVORCE!!!!

    Oh yeah, sorry Newt.

  • is this an SNL sketch?

  • Defense of Marriage Act is the short title of a federal law of the United States signed into law by President Bill Clinton on September 21, 1996, which is a federal law defining a marriage between a man and a women.

    .

In February, President Obama announced that he would not enforce this Act. He has taken another power grab for the Executive Branch by not following our Constitution, but choosing which laws to follow and which not to.

    .

Just imagine if he did that for Obamacare.

    .

    Allen West 2012

  • @FreedomInAmerica yeah, Bush did blatantly break the constitution alot. Funny how no cares about all the horrible things Bush did.....oh, wait, did you lie and say Obama? I'm sorry, for a second I mistook you for an intelligent human being, but you're just another mindless Republican.

  • And, yes, I'm aware this video was sarcastic.

  • My parents divorce was the best thing that ever happened to my family. There was actually some semblance of stability and calmness. By the way, just separating without divorcing prevents some people from gaining closure and being able to move on emotionally/mentally with their lives.

  • "Divorce has been illegal for 99% of human history?" So, what's that part in the Bible about a man writing his wife a certificate and divorcing her? Murder's illegal but people still do it. I'm not saying it should be legal, only that making laws aren't entirely successful.

  • I think it passed because gays didn't reach out to black voters enough.

  • @freakylocz14 Blacks are too religious... good luck reaching out to them.

  • Amen! Let the biggots stayed married to each other or shut their traps!

  • Comment removed

  • I pray to everything that is good and holy that this is a joke.

  • @Jamesscalise Well it is a joke but its a real joke and will be voted on so you better pray to every god imaginable that enough religious people stay home.

  • It's unfortunate some people don't understand satire.

LOL "It's true, I learned that." and "Now I have to live with that horrible sense of liberation for the rest of my life." and "Marriage isn't a right, it's a responsibility."

  • @lalalalovely1000 I knew it was satire from the moment I saw the prop title... hilarious.

  • Oh won't somebody PLEASE think of the CHILDREN?!

    Protect marriage. For the Children!

  • and what if you cant stand your wife/husband? what if you get beat? if your children suffer under permanent fights? if you simply dont love your partner anymore? should you waist your life for something like this?

i mean im not against marriage but seriously theres a reasen why there is such thing as a divorce.

  • @Gurke30876

There's nothing in the bill saying you can't live separately. But NO DIVORCE. (Actually, it allows for certain kinds of divorce, just not no-fault easy divorce) It's FOR the children.

    ~Trav

  • @Gurke30876 Kill them, it's cheaper.

  • @inglebritt lol no its not... depending on what method of execution each one will cost the state. First you have to pay to round them up... then you have to pay to house them until they are ready to die... then you have to pay to execute them... and there the cost varies by which method. Bullets cost, electricity cost, hangings cost rope (sometimes ropes break and a new one must be bought), the only viable low cost method is drowning but theres the cost on transportation to the ocean.

  • @Sevenfold120 I hear gas chambers work pretty well at killing massive amounts of people... bullets get expensive. You could call it ummm... a concentration camp.

  • @Gurke30876 The prop is real but it is meant as pure ironic and not to be taken seriously. That should of been self evident.

  • @Gurke30876 i'm pretty sure this a joke lol... if not huh? lol

  • Hmmmm...I wonder who the folks who hate the idea of making divorce illegal are?!??

    Hmmnnnnnnn!??!?

  • Making a law that illegalizes divorce is stupid. Why make a law against that? Guess what you have when two people wish to no longer be near each other? Well if you force those two to stay together, you have what has been happening in the past. Child abuse, domestic violence, etc. Besides who are you to tell people what they are to do with their PERSONAL, SOCIAL aspects of their lives? They do less harm to children divorced than if they were to want to be divorced and forced to stay together.

  • This video is ridiculously hilarious.

  • oh no what is a poor girl like me to do with all of this liberation???? lol

  • That is the funniest and also the most tragic thing I have seen in a long while. How exciting it shall be when people are told that they no longer have the right to chose to leave a loveless, abusive marriage. It is so good that, with the vision of these people, we no longer will have to think for ourselves. Well done!

  • The best part is definitely the kid going, "It's true. I learned that." =DD

  • LOVE IT!

"An epidemic is sweeping the nation"

    haha

  • LOVE IT!

"An epidemic is sweeping the nation"

    haha

  • wow, can this get raided?

  • omg this made me laugh "i got divorced and now i have to deal with the horrible sense of liberation"

  • great motivation behind this proposition, however, corny low budget commercial might ruin it

  • Pardon me, it's a corny, NO-budget commercial :-)

    ~Trav

  • @aPremiumDude Meant to be corny because its ironic and meant to put the supporters of prop 18 in their place saying gay marriage destroys the sanctity of marriage, well so does divorce.

  • lol this has to be the biggest load of crap ever.

a girl marries a guy. he seemed nice, they have a lot in common. then, he becomes abusive, and beats her regularly. but hey, it her own fault, right? why should they be allowed to divorce?! :D

  • Excellent point, and one we cover in our follow-up video interviewing supporters of the ban. Check it out.

    ~Trav

  • @DanRossiTV It's a joke to bring awareness towards homosexual marriage and the bigotry of people who want to "protect marriage".

  • @DanRossiTV - Well technically the Bible does say only through infedality and they did have abuse back 2000 years ago. Last time I checked the ceremony says for richer for poorer and in sickness and in health. The bible also says to stone unruly children and women whom have sex out of marriage, should we go back to this to? It says to not eat shellfish for this is unclean but a lot of people love seafood. After church people go out to eat and shop which causes people to have to work on Sunday.

  • @DanRossiTV

Uh...you appear to not be "in on the joke."

(Pssst, it's a sarcastic, joking ad, in case you still haven't caught on.)

  • @sidewalkvocals yeah i know that NOW xD i posted that like, 5 months ago

  • @DanRossiTV The prop is ironic... it is meant to attack the hypocrite supporters of prop 18 - the gay marriage ban.

It should have been pretty fucking obvious that this wasnt real. Well its real and will be voted on but if it passes then the mesg will backfire... but obviously it wont pass. Its like making a prop that says the Sun is a god called Sol Invictus and we should all worship it for winter warmth the growth of our crops... but it would never pass.

  • Ha! Really funny stuff guys. "Parents should be teaching their kids things not schools." I think that was by far the best line.

  • "it's true- I learned that"

    ahahaha

  • @PhlashYo that made me laugh too xD

  • "Say NO to government spending by saying YES to NO on divorce." LOL

  • BULLSHIT

  • "It's true, I learned that!" Best line.

  • I hope this actually passes, now that would be the joke.

  • what a funny f***ing joke, as usual.

  • Did you know that "marriage" is something that 2 people or more make in their own privacies? It can be broken, redo, or whatever as long as the parts are agree. The problem comes when the "Government" tries to be part of it, actually you can get marriage with someone without having to go to the city hall or anything like that.

  • Wow! Thank you Captain Obvious!

  • that people really scares the hell out of me. In the 99.9% of the human history divorce was illegal???? (WTF)??? 2 Options:

1.- You have studied no history whatsoever

2.- You want to bullshit all of us.

  • 99% is probably true, but that must counts before marriage was a thing, remember this is a piss take in on itself

  • very good point, if you are against gay marriage and favor of the marriege between a man and a woman, so please try make sense, be against the divorce dont be another hypocrate. past it on

  • "I got divorced, and now I have to live with that horrible sense of liberation for the rest of my life."

  • I like number two better, I almost thought this was real.

  • the scary thing is, and you can go back thru the comments and check, is that plenty of people dont get that its fake..

  • It's a JOKE, a PARODY!

  • Comment removed

  • Civil marriage is a right which comes with it quite a few thousand nice rewards especially @ the Federal level tax breaks, ability to be with you're spouse when they are in the hospital stuff like that

  • when the video became a joke, and you an idiot

  • Comment removed

  • It could be argued that it is in fact a right. And what does it matter what the video suggests as it is a big joke.

I will have a happy life. Merry christmas :)

  • Wow, this is some scary shit. When I first saw this video I thought it was some kind of parody of crazy christians. Then I realized it wasn't a parody.

  • I'm sorry if this sounds a little stupid, but is this video serious?

  • I think this is STUPID!!! I have seen women beat because the husband has control issues and you are telling me that a woman shouldn't be able to get out of that situation!!!! Whatever!!! What about the people who have a secret past that doesn't come out until after the " I Do's" are said. This is so dumb, yeah you take a vow before God when you marry someone but it is also wrong to hit on people!!!! So how do you plan on stopping that?

  • Are you implying that there is no such thing as the sanctity of marriage???

  • No I am not implying anything about the sanctity of marriage, I am just saying that when you marry someone you think it is forever and it should be unless the person changes and starts beating on you or isn't completely honest with you in the beginning!!

  • Dear God...how can you not tell that the whole "act" and video are jokes. They are mocking the arguments against gay marriage. People say allowing gay marriage would go against "tradition", however those same people seem to completely ignore the disturbingly high divorce rate. I can meet some drugged out hooker and marry her at the court house in no time...but a committed gay couple cannot, because that would tarnish "tradition". The argument is very hypocritical.

  • Smartass8504: I can meet some drugged out hooker and marry her at the court house in no time...but a committed gay couple cannot, because that would tarnish "tradition".

Eh, because the Bible says so. My nice and touchy-feely neighborhood priest in Boston told me that.

    /sarcasm

  • @Smartass8504 dumbass8504. the overall divorce rate is low dipshit.

  • @flippunkrocker "Dumbass8504"? How clever. Must've taken your AGES to come up with that. Next time you try to mock my intelligence, at least take the time to inform yourself, so you yourself do not ending up making a fool of yourself like you just did. The rate is not 50% as many often quote, but the divorce rate in this country is, in fact, high...especially among those who marry young and those of lower income or less education.

  • @Smartass8504 why not ban divorce it goes against tradition, including the bible.

  • I say we just put them in a room, say it's for them to bathe, then turn on the gas. It's worked before hasn't it?

  • You should be the first to use the room.

    Y'know, for testing purposes.

  • Oh, it's been tested many, many times.

  • I fully support protecting the traditional sacrament of holy matrimony from the heterosexuals who have been abusing it for hundreds of years.

I say we promote this and push this and when the hypocrisy finally gets to be too fucking much, the christfags will throw up their hands and say "OK we admit we are totally full of shit, gays can marry, who were we kidding."

    Because it's all such bullshit.

  • some people just cant take a joke. i thought this was funny.

  • Remember people you may hate that other person and want to stab them and cut them up into tiny pieces but marriage is for procreation and children! Does anyone ever think about the children??? It's your civil responsibility to protect tradition marriage so say YES to divorce! :D

  • OrganicAndFree,

Better yet - that other person may hate you and want to stab you and cut you up into little pieces - but marriage is "till death do us part".

So what if death comes a little sooner? (YIKES!) :S

  • "It's true I learned that." This is cute.

Oh god, now I have to live with this horrible sense of liberation for the rest of my life!

  • Comment removed

  • @eddiegamez1 Could you POSSIBLY be so dumb as to not get this? Explain please what happened to your brain to make you so literal. Even after this comment, I bet you still don't get it, right?

  • The far right and those who cannot think for themselves (take things literally), will not understand that this is a farce and a satire. These people are laughing at the ignorant heterosexuals in CA who voted for Prop 8.

  • I'm not dumb, you are because you obviously don't have a life to be worrying about another person's private life. I only speak the truth and you are too ignorant because you believe all the crap these people feed you. Why should someone care about a private matter that has nothing to do with them? Answer me that.

  • You are dumb. This video is a JOKE. Do you not get it? It's ironic. Do you not know what "irony" is? Try googling the concept. I don't give a damn about ppl's private lives. That's the POINT of the video. Moron.

  • There's no high horse at all. You're just a fucking idiot who can't detect sarcasm and nuance.

  • hey mind your business

  • This is an an open to anyone comment section on a Youtube video. It's everyone's game, fucktard.

  • u have way to much time to check this every so often and reply back. get over it. it was a joke and get a life. also learn how to use spell check. one more don't reply back to this cause i wont be checking again to read what you wrote.

  • for some reason the kid at 0:45 always makes me laugh.

  • Love the kid.

  • Religion is a synthetic, volitional, memetic, contagious, psychological plague :)

  • "Divorce has been illegal for 99 percent of human history" -- brilliant!

  • beyond genius...where was this guy before prop 8 and before maine's vote! i sincerely hope this makes it on the ballot

  • This issue is not about sexual orientation: it's the separation of church and state. If the state has the power to prevent gay marriage and to condone straight marriage, it should also have the power to control divorce. Am I missing something?

The government should get out of the marriage business. Everybody wins.

I'd even support grandfathering in government marriages of straight folks so they automatically become government-sanctioned civil unions. Wheres your compromise?

  • What its really about is the U.S. Constitution's Article 4, Full Faith and Credit clause and the 14th Amendment's equal protection clause not being applied equally to all citizens of the U.S.

  • I support both opposite and same marriage.

  • genius!

  • I love finding things that show how staggeringly hypocritical religious people can be.

  • Our Government already controls marriage which is absurd, but they might as well take it one step further with this prop.

  • 'I got divorced, and now I have to live with that horrible sense of liberation for the rest of my life.'

Fucking genius. Best thing since 'the ban on Dihydrogen oxide'.

  • Here's an idea for you fucktards: if you all hate divorce so much, don't get divorced!

You realize that no one is forcing you to get divorced, right? You have to CHOOSE to. So choose not to; problem solved.

For those that choose otherwise, it's none of your fucking business; it's not like they're forcing their ideals on you.

  • Just commenting on the unnecessary use of swearing in this situation... #1: this is a satirical video, #2: you sound like an idiot, and #3: it is my business- I'm a therapist. So, don't tell me that I'm not thinking of other people. I actually think this would solve our American Standards issue... as in: we have none. It's do what you want, when you want. And, that isn't logical or practical for any society.

  • You're a therapist...and that gives you the right to dictate other people's lives, how?

Being a therapist carries no merrit here; your job is to help advise people, not to control how they live and who they live with.

Forcing two people to live together who despise each other is not logical or practical, and violates basic human freedom on virtually all levels.

Yes you can do what you want...we live in the United States. Try China maybe, or North Korea; I think you'd be happier there.

  • You are completely right. Except maybe for North Korea and China thing. I don't know. But no one; even God, can't force two people who hate each other together. It's immoral.

  • I don't really know the specifics of Chinese or North Korean marriage laws, I was just relating their style of government to thing5420's totalitarian mindset regarding marriage.

  • Okay, then you're completely right.

  • Oh, let's be honest. No liberal would vote for it. Choice, right?

  • I know this is meant as a joke, but still - God Hates Divorce. Divorce Plus Remarriage Equals Adultery

  • You can actually give a signature for the petition and support this if you want. I think it will be hard to fight against all the people that have been divorced though, because their divorce will be void and they will remain married.

  • Satire: (noun) the use of humor, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize people's stupidity or vices, particularly in the context of contemporary politics and other topical issues.

Excellent Satire: (noun) see above video.

  • Are you kidding me? There is so much wrong with this.

  • Well maybe divorce shouldn't be "normal" either. Why not support this act and start preserving the true "normal" End the fairy tale right?

  • Again, for the slow, no one's trying to make homosexuality illegal.

  • Still an interest in preserving normal. And so a stalemate is reached. Hearts harden, because it faith and belief that's left. Haha for a moment there I thought we were in trouble.

  • This is a very serious initiative - it is not a satire. There is a big kick off in Sacramento to begin collecting signatures to get it on the Nov 2010 ballot in CA. Everyone please get involved. There is also a Facebook group. Look it up and join. You can't have it both ways CA - this is just an extension of prop 8. Divorce is a sin against the bible and it is a far bigger threat to traditional marriage than gay marriage. We need to protect marriage everyone!

  • God you guys and your protect marriage. It's pathetic. Get over yourselves and let people live the way they want to.

  • this is awesome!!! :)

  • I LOVE it 'say yes to no divorce' LOL

  • Yes. This IS a joke. The bill is real, it's satirical. But the motivation for the bill is not serious.

  • yea no shit i got to the part where that woman in blue says her kid learns that divorce is ok in school, and then the fucking kid says "It's true, I learned that." and i was convinced that they were fucking with me.

  • As a Christian myself, I have to ask "you are fucking kidding me, right? this has to be a joke right? A parody of the whole prop 8 issue?" No one could be this fucking assanine.

  • As assinine as Yes on Prop 8

  • You say you're a Christian? WOW! Could've fooled me.

  • Oh my God!! What the fucking shit is that?? Is ours society going one step back??

  • Just like with Prop 8

  • Of Course!!!!

  • "Parents should be teaching their kids things, not schools."

    Omg I almost pissed myself.

  • Poignant and perfect! Stick it to those backwards Mor(m)ons!

  • Hilarious, that is so my word of the day, Mor(m)ons :D

  • This is a joke. Right?

  • "Parents should be teaching their kids things. Not schools."

That pretty much sums it up.

  • Comment removed

  • I think if people really wanted to protect their ideas of marriage, then this is how they should think... otherwise they just fight because they want to have something other people can't.

  • Am I the only one who thinks this is nothing but sarcasm?

  • You and most people who can recognize thinly veiled satire.

  • So what if the murder rate goes up a little - at least only ONE of you will go to hell THAT way!!

  • I'm a bit disturbed that so many people don't realize that this is satirical.

  • but it exists, a man is trying to ban divorce.

Funniest part is, most of this makes a lot of sense

  • Oh, I'm well aware that the bill actually exists, but I'm positive the author of it is just trying to catch people's hypocrisy. It's equivalent to A Modest Proposal, a dry and subtle satire that makes sense in a twisted way. The second PSA makes it blatantly obvious, too.

  • it's a real petition though

  • I'm aware of that, but its intentions are not serious. The bill is purely satirical.

  • Comment removed

  • then call it something else and let them have the rights anyone else would have. and did you know that Christian marriage isnt the only type of marriage in the world? In Hindu they have gay marriages. there are all kinds of "union" ceremonies. this shouldnt really matter anyways, because we're supposed to have seperation of church and state, but for some reason when it comes to marriage, Judeo-Christians have their way every time.

  • The man behind this ban on divorce was in support of Proposition 8 (anit-gay marriage). The gay community had nothing to do with this.

The funny thing is the large majority of those who voted for Prop 8 to pass will most likely vote for this ban to fail because it affects them instead of Prop 8 which affected other people.

  • wow, what genius!!! I'm totally rethinking my opposition to gay marriage after this...thanks LGBT community for showing me the error of my gun-toting, God fearing yokel ways!

  • BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

I get a kick out of spoiled kids and their tantrums.

Thanks for the laugh, I needed it.

  • Please saturate the airwaves with this video! It will *doom* the gay marriage movement! I'm going to link it everywhere I can! Thanks!!

  • thanks but i dont think you get the joke.

  • lol.

I do agree that this needs to be spread all over, though. This video is awesome. Many thanks to whoever made it.

  • haaaaaaaaahahahahahahahaha

  • Sounds good to me.

All of the Libs/Dems will finally move out of CA. Yeaaa!

Lets make marriage mandatory too, that will clinch it that all of the asshole lib heads will move out!

We will have CA back on track in no time and finally be able to drill for oil off of the coast. We will get the water flowing to the farmers so we can have food growing again. While we are at it, can we put in the bill to kill all of the environmentalist that are fucking up America w/their anti people crap as a bonus?

  • Hahaha!!

  • Clever. Funny. Good use of satire. Hopefully this is not serious. Two wrongs can never make a right.

  • The funny part here -- it's self-inflicted satire.

  • Actually, it's a satirical reflection of context - a worried dominant group whose social institution is perceived to be in trouble and who, rather than accepting responsibility, atttempt to scapegoat a minority group. Rather common pattern historically.

  • how?

  • Vote YES!

  • Say No to Yes in the Altar because they'll say No when you say Yes I want to divorce t
