Eric Johnson comes from the school of guitar wankery just like Vai, and Malmsteen..All these guys sound generic and have no soul because their obsessed with the perfect tone? If they would stop bitching over tone and play from the soul theyd be better. Hendrix didn't seem to worry about tone, Ive seen concert footage of him and it sounded like he was playing a fuzz through the distortion channel on an amp and it was beautiful...
@TheOrderoftheOwl Eric Johnson guitar wankery.... seriously you just showed you know absolutely nothing. Does the song Manhattan sound like someone trying to show off how good they are at guitar, no it's full of smooth soulful playing that very few guitarists can even try to emulate. Get a fucking clue buddy.
@TheOrderoftheOwl You are totally nuts. Couldn't disagree with you more. One thing you will notice about the guitarists you mention is that 80% of their "tones" are derived of their techniques. If you want to argue that they focus too much on techniques, the perhaps you may be able to hold an argument. But it is clear that you have no idea of what you're talking about.
@JazzGtrDude Yes i was talking Technique. I didn't say they were bad players or that they sucked. I'm just saying, in my opinion, They lack raw soul. And i made the Hendrix comparison because Hendrix was a little sloppy, but it was beautiful. That's all.
@TheOrderoftheOwl jimi hendrix was no way sloppy. he has great technique so wtf? id love to see you play three guitar parts at the same time picking from the wrist. and playing lightly.
@NickWeiland No, I can't play that good. And when i said Hendrix was sloppy I didn't mean it in a bad way. I was just saying that I like that quality about him. Look at his live material..He'll miss a note from time to time but it's still genius.
its painfully obvious by the comments on this video that douchebag Eric Johnson wannabes and tasteless teenage bedroom bedroom wankboys wouldn't know what to do with something that kicks out the crushing mass coming out of that pedal. maybe if you opened you fucking eyes and ears, put down the shitty magazines, and got some semblance of originality you might eventually get a clue. that thing sounds huge. now if only it didn't say "Eric Johnson", I might buy it.
I am a big fan of the Fuzz Face, but not this one. I heard the "Eric Johnson Fuzz Face" at Namm on Saturday and Sunday with different guitars and players. It sounded flat, mushy, and flabby, not musical. It had no life. I am surprised that Eric put his name on it.
I dont know if this is this particular fuzz face, but if you take a look at the Joe bonamassa rig video, you'll see " eric johnson's fuzz face wich he gave me cause he didn't like it"
@mouloudo no that one was a fuzz someone made for eric and he didnt like it but joe did. they then made a JB signature model based on that one. this one is a new EJ signature fuzz. joe's is germanium, this is silicon. probably why eric didnt like the one joe has. he prefers the silicon ones.
I liked it. BTW these NAMM videos are always lacking in sound quality giving the circumstances of the event, don't expect "Proguitarshop demos" quality people..it's just dumb.
Does the darn thing have an on/off led indicator? A lot of the early stomp boxes had no indicator and I was around in those days. When you came off break you had to try and remember what was turned on or not and that was not always easy after a few mugs or glasses of memory erase fluids, That dude should braid his beard and it's make a nice leash for his wife or girlfriend to grab when she needs him follow, but he better stay away from blenders and cake mixers, hehe. Anyway; he's a good picker.
I have one of these, not signature, Is a damn great pedal, lot´s of character. Yes I don´t use a lot of gain on it like Eric, but still, I´m not Eric. I think this one will be more warm and midrangy maybe, or more touch sensitive, I don´t know. I do recognize my own pedal sound on this demo, so Is not so different from the original, I think It will be a subtil difference, but I bet it will be good! And it looks great, goldtop!!
for one people a fuzz is pretty much meant to sound shitty lol, two the sound quality is shit, and three I believe in a gear setup demo I seen eric johnson runs his fuzz into an already distorted amp so I think he uses the actual amount of fuzz sparingly.... dont quote me on that though
Dumbass people. The vid is not exactly studio quality and keep in mind that ERIC JOHNSON approved of it! I'm sure if this pedal was used and recorded in a better setting it would sound much better. So all you idiots need to grow some hair on your balls before spewing nonsence out the front of your faces.
WOW!! That does not sound good at all !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Eric, dude, you better retract this piece of sh!t before people really think you endorsed this!!! Or you should have played instead the weird dude with the tryin to look cool hat and beard ; - /
And how much is it i wonder? LOL they take a regular pedal tack on a star guitarists name and double the price! How much more expensive is it 'cos it's got Eric's name on it? hmmm! i think we should be told!
Here I thought Eric Johnson was going to be in the video, refund on my 2:13? Also that guy they get to play the Dunlop licks must be tone deaf or something I really havent seen a demo by him that I like the sound of and it certainly can't be doing the product line any good.
You CAN have your guitar dimed and sound good through a fuzz-face, but the gain on the pedal needs to be fairly low, and the gain on the amp needs to be somewhere between "clean-and-edgy!"
In general, what you said is right though...You GOTTA ride the volume-knob on the guitar to get the BEST out of the fuzz-face!
Perfect example: Check out Jimi Hendrix (BOG) live "Machine Gun." THAT tone is/was to die for, and he's riding the volume CONSTANTLY!
Eric Johnson's superhuman level of articulation affords him a heavier, splattier fuzz than most of us mere mortals can pull off. Also keep in mind the difference in pickups here. I don't know if you've ever played a G&L, but those pickups aren't as similar to Fender pickups as you might think - generally higher output, so even less articulation still. I bet if you go listen to an EJ clip w/ his old Fuzzfaces going, you'll be able to hear what he was going for w/ this pedal.
Dunlop is puttting out some great fuckin pedals. Man!
