My parents grew up in the Soviet Union, they were in their late 20s when it fell apart. Whenever I ask them about it they say they have very fond memories of childhood and youth in the Soviet Union. Mind you, this isn't because they aren't well off now, they are very well off in capitalism. But they often say something is missing, a sense of community, a sense of belonging.

The weapons of mass destruction Saddam had was the one he got from the British and USA when they financed his killing of Kurds and his war against Iran. However this weapon was certainly not directed against Saddam's western masters. Saddam was just another western puppet whom they got rid of when he was not needed anymore.
Regarding Arabs, they have as much right to form a single union as UK-USA-Canada-Australia have! And aggressive Anglo-Saxons do stick together like a wolf pack, don't they?

No one but Iraq controlled and supervised ALL of Iraqis oil fields (until Anglo-American occupation in 2003)! UN did not control neither it supervised Iraqis oil industry but only participated as the middle man in the transaction between Iraq and the world oil market! Saddam did not let British and US in! And since 2000 Saddam insisted that Iraqis oil be sold exclusively for Euros!
