John Lennon's best song as a "solo" performer IMHO. Elton John (who sings backup here) made a bet with John Lennon if "Whatever Gets You Through The Night" hits #1, Elton would perform live onstage with Lennon at Madison Square Garden in NYC. If I'm not mistaken, didn't part of the bet also include John Lennon performing on Elton John's next single? That next single was a remake of The Beatles' "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds", which went to #1 as well. Lennon used the name Dr. Winston O'Boogie.
