  • Amazing!

  • I'm sad because I assume the introduction of tablets, slowed or killed this project =(.

  • I wanna hold a real edition of The Daily Prophet in my hands!

  • I want clothes made out of this.

  • more like....have ads all over my newspaper and popups right?

  • apparently it's due 2013 : )

  • This guy looks like the guy from LOST

  • GUYS!! this type of technology is available for purchase already!! it's 2012! wake up!

  • Why make moving pictures in papers you're gonna throw away the next day? We have the internet, we have portable computers.

  • So what if i wanna keep a particular headline for future generations?

  • omg..... to have this on my glasses, windshield, and then get home and watch Blu Rays on the wall......... with surround sound 0.0

  • @icod73 it sounds expensive but in reality screens as small as the ones displayed could probably sell for about $5.

  • Lol awesome but sure it will be expensive

  • This is more flexible than OLED.

  • 1 more year and I'll be seeing Gordon Brown's moving smiling face... AAAAH! =p

  • LSD works great at animating pictures in magazines, it's especially interesting with playboy magazine. And it has been out for a while now.

  • @philinmotion lmao that comment made my day. i just wish LSD wasn't so damn hard to find in new jersey. i could be reading the wallstreet journal while watching the stocks literally crash in front of me :o

  • i'd see expensive newspapers in our future, but other than that this is an epic jump for the future

  • Just imagine a military camouflage made of this technology......you would be capable of nearly been invisible.

  • Thank god for smart people!! We would never have this type of tech with the brains of youtube.

  • 2 More Years for this Tech :)

  • Hahahaha screw paper

  • can you write on this so called electric paper with real pencils and pens? crayons and hightlighters?

  • Now the government, owned by the wealthiest top 1%, can edit & censor your supplied disinformation instantaneously.

  • I feel jealous of my unborn kids. They are gonna grow up with technology overload..oh, well, im still young

  • Think about that when are you going to college, instead of several books of 500 pages, wear only one e-paper.

  • in 3 to 5 years he said? The three years are already up! I really wanna live to see things like this!

  • we'll blow each other up before the future comes, that just sounds like the most likely outcome. Unless we put the whole world on prozac we're screwed, you don't give a monkey a weapon, atleast Aliens are smart enough to stay away.

  • That last thing looks like a virtual scroll!

  • Google search future timeline and click on the first link. THe future is amazing haha

  • Awesome, can't wait til this type of thing os everywhere!

  • hey we should be having the paper nnext year

  • thats amazing

  • To watch a moive on your glasses would be nice but right infront of your eyes making you go cross eyed to foccus

  • Cool good nick.

  • very very NIC i whunt one naw

  • better than oled

  • thanks for sharing

  • Personally, this technology doesn't seem best implemented in talking newspapers. I'd much rather get my news off of the internet and such. However, movies in eyeglasses sounds awesome and practical.

  • @blah11blah

i belive the e-paper doesn't emit light, so it's more eye friendly than a monitor

  • @HASHIRAMA

Indeed, no light from the display. Looks exactly like printed paper, bar the sheet of protective plastic that usually goes over the e-paper. When I first saw it in a store, on an e-reader, I thought there was a pre-printed demo screen on the device, before I discovered the screen was interactive ;p

  • Imagine a Rorschach mask like watchme

    O.O

  • Talking at me? Oh my God, that sounds scary!

  • imagine it used as wallpaper

  • Yeah, or image if they covered a whole car with this material so that you can totally change the color of your car with a push of a button...............sick!!! :-)

  • @1989kirby you don't need to. someone already did it!

  • @1989kirby

yeah, forget repainting the house. Want a new wallpaper, just download it, via wi-fi

  • Maaaaaaaaaaaaaan, thats amazing,

imagine: you dont read a newspaper but watch it!

  • I can't wait for this to come out!!! Awesome!!

  • That rolled-up e-ink thingy is just so WAY cool!!!

Gonna camp in front of the store when this thing gets avaliable ;D

  • future seems a million miles away, get a move on!! I wanna live to see the future

  • sorry dude, that's impossible. Look, the future just slipped by again as I was typing.

  • we are in the future... we just don't see these common things... like this invention... and other inventions like the invisible cloak...

  • jajajaja good luck with that

  • @CJCymru Welcome to the future, this video is three years old. True to their word, these displays are now available on on the market. You're probably used to Kindles and e readers which use this, but stores are using it as signage and ads. You probably wouldn't even notice the price signs because they look like paper. The textbook idea is taking off as we speak and is being developed.

The coolest part of this e paper is it uses extremely little power, and of course, looks like paper.

  • @Stizogm awesome! the world is changing at a rapid pace now.

  • @CJCymru The term future is subjective! Our technology is going to advance forward, so future can be anything really from today till the end of the world. When you were born 50 years ago then you would consider today to be the future, but we're adapting to everything so it will always seem "normal" to us to have everything we already do.

  • "did you here about that man on the news"

"no my newspaper hasn't finished charging yet"

  • muggles will kill voldie in 3 seconds > guns> to fast to react

or chemical weapons against wizards > :3 there is a substance that can kill in half a second. How voldie will defend against this? HE CANT =D

  • news with moving pictures, audio and color... ITS CALLED THE INTERNET.

what a dumb application for such an AWESOME technology.

  • its not called internet.

    *.gif >Pics

    *.wmv

    *.avi

    *.flv (YOUTUBE!!)

  • will they be good for those urgent times when there is not toilet paper?...my daily news has saved me many times on that regard.

  • Has nobody seen wall-e??

If this happens we'll all end up like the humans in it....hahaha

  • We all know this will happen.. But u are acting like its bad. People will be okay with it then.

  • LOL

Then Harry Potter is not about magic, its a futuristic boock xD

  • You wouldn't need TV once this gets really advanced

  • Well, keep in mind this is only display technology. So that's like saying you won't need TV screens anymore because we we'll have TV screens, instead.

Though embedding this "electronic paper" in TV's as a replacement for normal screen technology could prove more efficient, eventually.

  • That is SWEET I need some.

  • and to continue you would only need ONE of these in your lifetime, one piece of paper that can be used over and over again as much as you want. Just think of all the paper used in schools, like 500 or more pages a day, just one of these E inks for every person at a school and you got 50,000 or more trees still standing.

  • Well i'm sure these things do break eventually, but yeah it would definitely save paper.

  • only 50,000 trees? more like 1000000 more standing.

  • well what about the concept of drawing a circle, then being able to push it around across the paper? Drawing a stick figure and instead of having to erase and draw it again you press a button and it walks and jumps around on its own? simple AI right there. Now seriously, drawing a circle then pushing on the sides and watching it move and bend with the pressure, and be able to move across the paper to another corner, thats what we need to go upon. It would be like a DS exept only on E paper

  • By the time this comes out there wont be newpapers.

  • I agree.

  • This is so cool and futuristic.

  • See a character talking a talking at you? Wow that's the most annoying idea I ever heard. It reminds me of that stupid paper clip that used to appear on microsoft word.

  • hihi, that's right ;-)

  • I don't see why Wizards were so stuck up in HP, since we're obviously better than them in many ways. I mean, in the first book, the kids would have saved so much time if they'd simply googled 'Nicolas Flamel' instead of searching through the library. And we obviously equal them in magical newspapers apparently (funny how JKR probably thought that that would never happen to us muggles, and now within her lifetime... :) ).

  • or if they just shot voldemort in the head with a 12-gauge

  • yeah the metal wand :D

  • yeah but they couldn't google Nicolas cos inside the castle those kind of things doesn't work cos of the powerful magical protections it has :D hehehehe

    Kenny

  • They could have googled him in London, during the Christmas break!

  • Oh you,Hairy Pothead.Your lookin at da future!

  • if they made this. it'd probably b fucking expensive. and also. if they make it where it "updates" then we waste less paper :D

  • SWEET

  • Neat... Although If it comes out I am only buying one.... I won't be doing the whole buy a daily newspaper anymore if each one can update itself.

  • this is amazing

  • Interesting. You could buy just one newspaper when you subscribe to the news service. Just leave the paper on your kitchen table and the news updates every day via the internet.

  • Awesome!

How cool is that one day I won't have to look at a vertical screen in the living room.

I can look at a horizontal screen on the kitchen table.

    Whoo-Hoo!

Let the eyes burn baby burn.

I'll even be able to scroll my news up and stick it in my back pocket. Whoo-Hoo.

Meanwhile the rest of the world starves and rulers control people even more.

  • That makes me glad I actually kept the front cover of my newspaper that says "Obama Wins."

  • awesome im the first one ho will buy when will appear in my country :))))

  • Thisw is sofaking sweet Ima so buy me one yea go rich kids woohoo!

  • wHAT COULS IT BE CALLED? tHE dAILY pROPHET!

  • the daily prophet

  • Awesome!

    i agree with AWriterWandering.

  • could this be the next ipod lol

  • no,but it could be I-paper

  • I can't wait for technologies like video eInk to hit the market! The applications for which obviously extend beyond digital newspapers. No longer would we have to hide our cell phones, PDAs, gaming devices, etc from the glaring sun in order to use them without straining out our eyes.

  • Thanks for posting!

    It's awesome.

  • Won't be cheap =/

  • e-ink evaluation sets cost about $4000 ;)

  • There is already a phone based on this technology (The Motorola F3), which retails at about $2.50, i kid thee not. Ok, so it's a basic example, but this technology is so simple in comparison to an LCD, just think what that could do to the cost of laptops, or pretty much anything with a screen.

  • Holly fuck!

  • Omg I want it !
