@philinmotion lmao that comment made my day. i just wish LSD wasn't so damn hard to find in new jersey. i could be reading the wallstreet journal while watching the stocks literally crash in front of me :o
we'll blow each other up before the future comes, that just sounds like the most likely outcome. Unless we put the whole world on prozac we're screwed, you don't give a monkey a weapon, atleast Aliens are smart enough to stay away.
Personally, this technology doesn't seem best implemented in talking newspapers. I'd much rather get my news off of the internet and such. However, movies in eyeglasses sounds awesome and practical.
Indeed, no light from the display. Looks exactly like printed paper, bar the sheet of protective plastic that usually goes over the e-paper. When I first saw it in a store, on an e-reader, I thought there was a pre-printed demo screen on the device, before I discovered the screen was interactive ;p
Yeah, or image if they covered a whole car with this material so that you can totally change the color of your car with a push of a button...............sick!!! :-)
@CJCymru Welcome to the future, this video is three years old. True to their word, these displays are now available on on the market. You're probably used to Kindles and e readers which use this, but stores are using it as signage and ads. You probably wouldn't even notice the price signs because they look like paper. The textbook idea is taking off as we speak and is being developed.
The coolest part of this e paper is it uses extremely little power, and of course, looks like paper.
@CJCymru The term future is subjective! Our technology is going to advance forward, so future can be anything really from today till the end of the world. When you were born 50 years ago then you would consider today to be the future, but we're adapting to everything so it will always seem "normal" to us to have everything we already do.
and to continue you would only need ONE of these in your lifetime, one piece of paper that can be used over and over again as much as you want. Just think of all the paper used in schools, like 500 or more pages a day, just one of these E inks for every person at a school and you got 50,000 or more trees still standing.
well what about the concept of drawing a circle, then being able to push it around across the paper? Drawing a stick figure and instead of having to erase and draw it again you press a button and it walks and jumps around on its own? simple AI right there. Now seriously, drawing a circle then pushing on the sides and watching it move and bend with the pressure, and be able to move across the paper to another corner, thats what we need to go upon. It would be like a DS exept only on E paper
See a character talking a talking at you? Wow that's the most annoying idea I ever heard. It reminds me of that stupid paper clip that used to appear on microsoft word.
I don't see why Wizards were so stuck up in HP, since we're obviously better than them in many ways. I mean, in the first book, the kids would have saved so much time if they'd simply googled 'Nicolas Flamel' instead of searching through the library. And we obviously equal them in magical newspapers apparently (funny how JKR probably thought that that would never happen to us muggles, and now within her lifetime... :) ).
yeah but they couldn't google Nicolas cos inside the castle those kind of things doesn't work cos of the powerful magical protections it has :D hehehehe
Interesting. You could buy just one newspaper when you subscribe to the news service. Just leave the paper on your kitchen table and the news updates every day via the internet.
I can't wait for technologies like video eInk to hit the market! The applications for which obviously extend beyond digital newspapers. No longer would we have to hide our cell phones, PDAs, gaming devices, etc from the glaring sun in order to use them without straining out our eyes.
There is already a phone based on this technology (The Motorola F3), which retails at about $2.50, i kid thee not. Ok, so it's a basic example, but this technology is so simple in comparison to an LCD, just think what that could do to the cost of laptops, or pretty much anything with a screen.
Amazing!

You wouldn't need TV once this gets really advanced
Splonkeydonkey 2 years ago
Well, keep in mind this is only display technology. So that's like saying you won't need TV screens anymore because we we'll have TV screens, instead.
Though embedding this "electronic paper" in TV's as a replacement for normal screen technology could prove more efficient, eventually.
