They realized they made a mistake in 08 and they saw the desperate need for checks and balances to be restored to the gov't.

All they had to do was take that out and shorten the bill down a bit and make it easier to understand. With the mandate you are making people pay for their OWN care, not the taxpayer.

Hahah, Darlene has got to be the best MADtv satire I've seen. ^_^ I love the way you can actually hear the audience responding to her songs, which really goes a long way these days when you can get away with almost anything. Also, Nicole Sullivan really shines here; her portrayal is spot on. :-) Recommended for people with a sense of humour!

They approved of the Arizona law and Obama and Co. went after it anyway because they want to protect illegal immigrants so they can give them amnesty for more votes. They realized they made a mistake in 08 and they saw the desperate need for checks and balances to be restored to the gov't.

@bjoh249 polls where actually pretty close. That is with Americans not actually knowing what was in the bills yet still so many "didn't like what was in them." When polls asked about the content of the bills - item by item without calling it "obamacare" - the things in it where VERY popular. But people buy into fear mongering easily enough.
The mandate I also hate.but I understand the need. Just like car insurance - because you are putting other people's money at risk by not getting it.

@bk3k No government should force their citizens to purchase insurance in a free society. That is a good chunk of what people don't like about the bill. All they had to do was take that out and shorten the bill down a bit and make it easier to understand. The polls showed a pretty wide margin of those who did and didn't support the bill that was passed. They still show that today and tuesday was a result of that. Moron!

It was true before the bill takes effect, that if an uninsured person walks into the ER, they don't get denied medical attention. There are no free lunches however, and the hospitals get compensated for this by way of TAX PAYER FUNDED subsidies.
With the mandate you are making people pay for their OWN care, not the taxpayer.
