  • You know its kind of funny, he said "if you dont like hip-hop, this might not change your world view", because this was the first hip-hop album I got into, after never wanting anything to do with the genre. This album fucking rules.

  • Fact: Best solo effort is Raekwon's Cuban Links. Only good Wu-Tang album is this one.

  • @hejafish I love this album, but I actually like Wu Tang Forever even more!

  • @theyoozernaim yea a friend told me that he revisited WuTang Forever and realised it was good after disliking it at first.. maybe I should do the same. At the time to me it just sounded like all the creativity had been lost in the production...the Rza seemed to have resorted to a small keyboard and a drum machine with far less sampling and rawness.

  • I was into Ice Cube and Cypress Hill when I heard this. I never listened to them much again :¬)

  • its sounds like u were gonna say hip hop is not dead, and edited it to say not terrible

  • 11:18 HAHAHAHAHA

  • This album changed my life....

  • I miss old school NYC hip/hop. It all sounded so dark and mellow, and yet dangerous and powerful, if provoked. Nas, Wu Tang, Biggie, even early Jay-Z, all had this dangerous, thug styled sound, mixed with mysterious samples, and most notibly, the piano work. (Illmatic is one of my favorites for that ALONE)

Wierd note. You reviewed this album right around the time I purchased it. It would be one thing if it was brand new, but 20 years of existence, and we chose the same day? We are brothers!

  • Well played Cal... Well played

  • everytime you said cream i couldnt help but say "get the money, dolla dolla bill yall" under my breath.

  • Cal Chuesta is a monster on the mic!

  • One of the top 10 best hip hop albums of all time.

  • I actually used to be one of those "HIP HOP SUCKS!!!"-kids. This album got me into hip-hop, and I'm glad this album got me into it, or i probably wouldnt bother listening to like XXX by Danny Brown, which is probably my favorite album this year (2011 duh)

  • @FlasKamel Cannibal Ox - The Cold Vein. Best hip-hop album ever made, in my opinion. I own over 1,000 hip-hop albums, btw. Check it out. It's pretty abstract, but there's so many quotables. Listen to 'F-Word', about being in the friendzone. Lines like "I'm supposed to be the friend, I'm getting fried in the end." And the song 'Pigeon' using pigeons as a metaphor for people in the hood. Just listen to it, it's amazing.

  • @XanderBBo Wow, I REALLY appreciate that you made this as a reply to my post, because I listened to it for a bit, and I absolutely love it. Totally going to listen to this many more times.

Also funny to find the beat in "Pigeon" in the song "Build-A-Bitch" by Mr. Muthafuckin' eXquire, which is a song from 2011 I really liked. Thanks, man.

  • @FlasKamel No problem. =) You should definetely check out more albums from the earlier '00s from that label (Def Jux). A few I'd highly reccomend are Mr. Lif - I Phantom. Aesop Rock - Labor Days. Cage - Hell's Winter (And his debut Movies For The Blind, which is totally different, but just as good.) And of course the album that kickstarted the indie hip-hop scene Company Flow - Funcrusher Plus.

  • @XanderBBoMr. Lif: First impression: It's OK, not great, but I'll give it another try or two.

Aesop Rock sounds very very interesting, and Cage was great as well (Especially "Good Morning" love it!)

Gonna be honest, Company Flow, not sure if I like it or not. It's not bad, not at all, it's just a part of hip/hop I "haven't got used to".

But thanks a lot for telling me about these songs. Being introduced to new songs are great, but (kinda) getting introduced to GENRES is amazing. Thanks, man.

  • @FlasKamel Mr. Lif takes some getting used to. The concept behind the album is great. Aesop is probably the most abstract lyricist in the world.

Cage may be my favourite rapper ever. He had a messed up childhood, REALLY messed up, so his first album is pretty 'gory.' "Agent Orange" is probably his most well known song, but I prefer "Among The Sleep"

  • @XanderBBo Make your channel availableee ;P

  • @FlasKamel I wasn't aware of it's unavailability. I will change it now =)

  • @FlasKamel You should also listen to Kendrick Lamar - Section.80 and Big K.R.I.T. - Returnof4eva ... They were just as good as XXX by Danny Brown in my opinion.

  • @albinocify Ok, so I've finally decided what my top 5 of this year are.

    1. Elmatic - Elzhi

    2. Section.80 - Kendrick Lamar

    3. Armor of God - Vakill

    4. Oneirology - Cunninlynguists

    5. R.E.K.S. - Reks

  • @Eziokilla9595 Heard them all, except for Vakill's Armor of God.... is that one excellent like the other albums on your list?

  • @albinocify God damn man...Vakill is in my Top 10 Ever. He's what I like to call, The Best Rapper You Will Never Hear. COP ARMOR OF GOD. It's unbelievably good and it will lead you to Va's other albums. Nearly every track on it is a stand out. I can't recommend it enough.

  • @albinocify Thanks for tips, I've listened a little to both of em, and I don't really like it, there's something about the slow relaed porn'ish music I just don't like unfortunately, but still, thanks a lot for recomendin em ;)

  • @FlasKamel Slow related porn'ish? I don't understand :\ I mean not to be an ass, but have you heard Kendrick Lamar - "HiiiPower"? It's not slow nor ignorant by any sense. :) It rocked my ass off and then glued it back on, and then ripped off again. lol Maybe you should check out this song... Reks - "25th Hour" (it doesnt disappoint in my opinion, and it's got great technical ability) Hope I helped!

  • @albinocify Sorry about that "slow porn'ish"-music. I'll give it more tries, but my first impression wasn't great. A little too "relaxed"ish for me. And I don't wanted to sound ungrateful, not at all, it just wasn't music I'd listen a lot to. "25th Hour" on the other hand is one of the songs I've listened to the most in 2011, it's great (except from the lack of pauses between sentences, btu that's charming). I'll check out HiiiPower ;)

  • @FlasKamel oh no, not at all! :) Kendrick's flow can be veryyy relaxed and laid back, which turned me off first when i heard him. But after multiple listens, hes actually really good. But trust me, "HiiiPower" is no relaxation. it has testosterone! :D lol although im not the biggest an of Childish Gambino, you should check out Childish Gambino - "Bonfire" also. It really is pumping :)

  • Please review Frank Ocean - Nostalgia, Ultra :)

  • Jizzuh. Anthony said Jizzuh.

  • @lakeoballguy That's how you say it. Gza used to spely 'Jizah'

  • el micheals affair

  • 36 chambers is a bukkake you want to have

  • some of your reviews are straight bullshit lmaoo, u thought phontes' 'charity starts at home' and evidences' 'cats & dogs' were average 5 out of 10 albums, thats a fuckin joke.

both of them albums are some of the best of 2011

  • Cal Cuchesta, greatest mc of this generation

  • I'm so happy you said that Ghostface Killah is your favorite solo member. I, personally, don't think he gets enough credit and he's my favorite.

  • Second favorite album of all time. First is Illmatic by Nas.

  • I would love to see you review anything by OutKast, maybe Southernplayalisticadiallacmuzik since it was their first album.

  • immortal technique revolutionary vol 2

  • "Well I'm a sire, I set the microphone on fire

Rap styles vary, and carry like Mariah." - Inspectah Deck

  • @Zsmart Here I go, deep type flow

  • BASEDGOD FUX ALL FATANO'S B*TCHES

  • Comment removed

  • masta killa, fantano you no like?

  • No mention of the Rebel INS makes me :(

  • Fantano can spit. Everyone should check it out his review for DOOM's Born Like This. He kicks a verse at the end and it's actually rather above average.

  • Legendary Álbum .. Wu Tang Forever

  • only built for cuban linx was almost better then 36 chambers

  • Good job Anthony. As far as "raw and real" goes this is the quintessential album that all emcees that shortly followed this release went to for inspiration. The rhyme scheme was evolved and deliberately used to show that a larger vocabulary could outdo anything heard before it. I feel like this and Method Man's Tical are the only album's I return to even if I'm a little bit quiet about to others. It's harder to find other's that enjoy this. I heard this when I was 14 and it made a big impression

  • Cal Got Bars!!!!

  • record sold at both hot topic and urban outfitters. its weird..

  • CAL is the greatest rapper alive!!!!! Oh and by the way i can't tell You and Cal apart with that stash. lol

  • Thanks for this. One of the best hip hop albums....

  • I didn't even like hip hop 4 years ago, but I got this and it blew my brain out

  • Watch these muthafuckas still say Wiz Khalifa is better

  • Cal is ill.
