I've had 20 tetras and 4 ghost shrimp in my 3.5 gallon tank for almost 2 and a half years now and none of them have died! As long as u take care of the water and have a heater, filter, bubbler, and hiding places small shoaling fish like neon tetras are perfect for small tanks, so are ghost shrimp, they are very entertaining! I know im going agaisnt the 1 gallon per inch rule but I believe that neon tetras are the exception because there really small (about an inch) and theyre a shoaling fish
@AquaLover99 well i'd love to see them at that price in Nebraska lol....earl mays sells em for 5 dollars each!! pet shop has em for 6 @18$...12@32$...or 3 dollars each lol. wanted to get some glo fish but they were 8 dollars each!! :/
another way to get algae off plant leaves is to get a small peice of filter wool and very gently whipe off the algae, it works for me, as my tiger plec is usless at cleaning algae, hes just aging
I am getting 10 neon tetras soon for my freshwater fish tank 10 gallon but if I get those fish should I add a airstone filter to make my neon tetras fish safe and don't use a aqua clear 20 anymore? what filter u are using?
did you breed them cause tht is what i am trying to do just put them in breeding tank they were spawning in my main tank so i put them in the breeding tank and took out the lemons the neons seem easier to do
CS123. Beautiful tank and video. I took my bumblebee catfish back to the pet store today. I had bought two but the bigger one killed the smaller one. I now have 5 neon tetras,2 green cory catfish, and 2 zebra danios that are green and orange respectively. I also have a banana plant. My only decoration is a mountain with 4 openings. When i learn how to make a video i will. I love watching other peoples aquarium setups on youtube. Keep doing it everyone. :-)
Great super clean design and layout. I am a huge fan of the simple neon tank. I had a 40 tall with 40 neons in it in college. Morons would come in and say,"is that salt water?" I would then ask them to leave..;) I have a neon tank currently but it doesn't hold a candle to yours. (check my green thumb office video) I feel inspired!
I remember as a kid never being able to have my neon tetras live past a month no matter how i changed the water and all. Your video is pretty much my dream tank and was wondering, with your bristlenose he doesnt eat the plants and just the algae?
@eleeschalow G'day, and thank you! This tank looks a little different now, and I traded in most of the neon's. I still have 8 of them, but also have several other tetras. I have read that the bristlenoses will destroy anubius with their constant rasping, but mine have never been more than helpful. Without them, the anubius leaves get all over run with hair short algae.
@eleeschalow neons arnt the best for tanks that are just starting off its good to let the tank cycle first with just a few different hardy fish and then add neons as your last or close to last i remember my first tank having neons and micky mouse plattys and they lived for 2 years until the tank had a leak and i had to take it down but try that
Very nice tank. Like your set up. Just wondering, how did you get the Anubias plant stuck to the driftwood and how long did it take to stick to it? I just recently bought a driftwood and an anubias plant. Gimme a response. thanks.
G'day. I actually bought this driftwood pre planted with the Anubias, though I have done it the hard way in the past! It doesn't take long for it to "stick", about 2 weeks should be enough to allow it to hold on for itself, assuming it's a happy plant and the roots are shooting. Just tie it down with some cotton, or fishing line (not too tight, but firm enough to hold it without too much movement), and wait! No real trick to it.
Hey skimstr, they sure are real. Anubias planted on driftwood. They look nice and require virtually no care and minimal light. They have collected a bit of algae on the leaves now because they are such slow growers. I got a brisltenose last week and he's doing a great job of cleaning it off! Cheers.

Awesome tank. Getting my tetras this weekend. The only issue with putting a Pleco in the tank is that it would eat the plants as well as algae
