Even though Chin had left Hawaii 5-0 by the time of Season 11, the 5-0 sketch was very accurate of how stiff the show had become. Season 11 was '78 - '79 - this sketch was from '79, so spot on. So wooden was the acting by the time of Season 11, James MacArthur called it quits and bailed out before the truly awful twelfth season was commissioned.
BBC Radio 4e is now airing the 1982 series "Stick a Geranium in Your Hat", about the comic songwriting duo of Weston & Lee. As I listened to it on BBC's iPlayer, I was thrilled to discover that the supporting cast of singer-actors included Dudley Stevens!
Besides singing on some gems like "Your Baby Has Gone Down the Plughole" and "What a Mouth", he was also the show's narrator.
You can listen to each episode on the BBC's website, for a week after its original broadcast.
It was funny, especially the Mind Your Language skit. It w as very much like the show. The Hawaii Five-O one was not funny and exaggerated. I've seen the show recently, and the actors are far more animated. Just because they were serious, it doesn't equal stiff. Chin didn't stand around with his hands on his forehead, and Steve and Danno were very tough and spoke with inflection. When they keep labeling the cast of Hawaii Five-O as stiff, it influences what people think before they see it.
Great stuff! This does remind me a lot of "The Burkiss Way"-- Eric Pode of Croydon would fit right in, although maybe he would be better left to the imagination...
Thanks for the superb upload. I was a great fan of "Burkiss" and was very excited when they transferred to television.

I'm amazed at how they got away with spoofing Mind Your Language!
