Wow. Classiest hardware porn ever shot. Amazing job, man. A proper tribute to the greatness of the platform!
I collect NEO-GEO arcade hardware, and have been planning on shooting a series of videos (I have a DSLR that can shoot HD vid) first documenting basic hardware knowledge, and then moving on to the care and feeding of a cabinet. ;)
I already planned to do a macro shot pulling back along the surface of a big arcade board. Now I know how good I want to make it look!
Wow, that was awesome. Thanks for showing Metal Slug first since it is the best SNK series. Though I'm kinda disappointed, where's Bust-A-Move/Puzzle Bobble & Ghost Pilots?
One of my local laundramats had a open arcade cabinet with 3 games inside, Metal Slug 3 included! The laundramat was lucky I'm not a thief.
Again great video, it brings back memories when arcades were the best, when there'd be an audience behind you or group of people taking turns trying to defeat Morden's army.
@metalmariox100 Glad you enjoyed the video! I unfortunately only had room for a certain amount of games and Bust-A-Move/Ghost Pilots didn't make it in.
I'm wondering, did the Neo Geo suffer from the same issue that plagued other "Super Consoles" of their respective time periods, like the TurboGrafx-16 or Sega Saturn, or today's PS3? That issue being a computer so powerful, no one could use it to it's maximum capabilities, and seeing little to no 3rd party support. It's a shame that such a technological marvel was ignored.
Well, imho that was one "small" problem for aes, if comparing with the big one what was pricing. Think about you had to pay around 250$ for a brand new fresh game, maybe more if the title was kof, fatal fury o similar...
@extremduke I'm in the middle of buying new camera equipment, so most likely be in the summer/fall timeframe where I will start thinking of my next console film.
As usual, Aaron = High Quality in everything related and non related to video games videos/films, excellent work . (my number 1 is still the PCFX videos you used as a bgm "Skin Of The Night" by M83 and "Running Blind" by t.A.T.u.. and the other version using Ayumi hamasaki`s . ) Thank you very much for using your knowledge (and for the time invested and dedication) in making those videos
@TioUltros Thanks for the kind comments! I think overall, the PC-FX film (the re-edited version) is also my most favorite. Right now I'm saving for a Sony Super 35mm NXCAM which I hope to get sometime during the summer, then I can start work on my next console film (Sega Saturn? Dreamcast? VMLabs Nuon? We'll see....)
Great video, but the credits are too long. Should have used that part to add more gameplay in. Long credits like that on such a short tribute video make it appear as if the video is more about you then the original subject matter.
@ConfusionDistortion The proper people, music, and games needed to be credited. There is no law that says that credits can't be long - besides it was about quality, not quantity.
NEO GEO will live as one of the best gaming console of mankind ever, thank you SNK for make a arcade legacy since 1990. I watch many people playing in the local arcade KOF2002, Metal Slug 3, Samurai Shodown and other games in the console that make history in the entire world. Long live to the king and that king is called SNK because OUR FUTURE IS NOW and forever in the hands of a legacy better known as the NEO GEO. Thank you sir for make me believe once again and forever in the arcade industry.
@jmelonsoda Thank you for the comment! Scanlines on the game footage was very warmly received by viewers of my PC-FX and TurboGrafx/PC Engine films so I decided to keep with that for this film as well. I'll probably keep with scanline game footage until I reach HD consoles (which won't be for a longggg time).
@videogameobsession If I could afford it, I'd shoot in IMAX :) But the next best thing that I could do is shoot in 3D (whenever I decide to purchase a 3D camera). I'll reshoot all the consoles when that time comes....
LIKED, FAVORITED (not a real word, but whatever :P), SHARED ON FACEBOOK AND TWIITER.. What else can I do for this masterpiece. Best short film I've ever seen editing-wise.
You can emulate these games on a PC, you can download them onto your Wii and buy them on a compilation disc, but nothing beats playing them on the original hardware! The Neo Geo AES is worth ever penny, and its library of incredible games are surprisingly affordable, and many of the ones that are more expensive are great value for the amount of deep gameplay they give.
Playing the likes of the Last Blades, the Real Bouts and the mighty King of Fighters games on the AES is gaming gold.
A very proffesional job. Really at the level that was a system like Neo Geo. I loved that console. Crashed 3 arcade sticks in 10 years, that says all xD One question to the video maker: That boxed are not the original game boxes for neo geo, you reprinted and maked them from 0? i make you that question because they looks even better than the original ones, without the transparent plastic surface, and more vivid colours. Very good job dude!
@extremduke Thanks for the comments duke. The boxes are authentic SNK boxes which I purchased from Japan (the seals shown during the credits were from the boxes). I then used the amazing fan-made artwork found at Southtown for all the cover inserts as I didn't have access to any of the original US AES game inserts at print quality resolution. The game boxes in the film still have the transparent plastic and is still visible in some of the box shots.
Another note, I'd like to point out that I appreciate the choice of showcasing Blazing Star over its seemingly (at least in my circles) more popular predecessor, Pulstar. I just find Blazing Star to be a more fun and fantastical experience.
Finally, again, just loving that credits scene. Great showing good sir.
wow amazing i was a fan of Neo Geo i still have it and its working , never mind Neo Geo the video is amazing and i really love it i wanna see more of this it well be cool doing the current generation :)
I loved NEO GEO so much growing up. I never owned one though. I had to settle for the arcade machine down at the (K) market. Too bad that SNK never got the recognition they deserved. Everyone went mainstream with SNES and SEGA.
@acabtp Well since I worked on the film for 8 months, of course I'm going to put my name on it...and you are saying I shouldn't have given credit to the games that made this film possible? No credit to SNK? No credit to Southtown? No music credits? Wow, glad you're not my editor!
@acabtp dude watch it again.. yes they did third of the video for credits but its for you to know whats in the video so chill and enjoy the work :) shears
A top notch collection of the AES titles all touted thoroughly through this amazing fan video. Simply astounding camera work on the system, I feel as if this ad should have been created for the system in its heyday over the rather brainless American marketing that disgraced it. Long live SNK.
@michiyoyoshiku No need for the aggression, but I don't believe the sexual ads ("I remember when he couldn't keep his hands on me") along with many others obliviously off the mark. I will say that the, "We're not worthy" one was alright though. Regardless, this is a much better showcasing of the fantastic Neo Geo system undoubtedly.
A final tip would be to use spell check before you make offending comments, for it will make you look less of a fool.
@assramp Since you removed your post, let me put it back up for you since you hate the Neo Geo...ahem, and I quote: "So you filmed yourself playing video games with an expensive camera and called it a "film". Wow, that was boring as hell."
WOW... that took me back and blasted me with nostalgia!!! I was fortunate enough to have the original NEO•GEO console...till I couldn't afford the $100 game cartridges anymore!!! LOL Good video man...that was great!
Tribute accepted. Neo Geo was a such a pro experience. Didn't had the chance of owning one, but look at nowadays: KOF's a f*cking garbage! After Capcom's turn, everything got a stupid look, characterwise mainly.
@Pcenginefx OMG!! DID U REALLY DO THIS VIDEO "JUST FOR FUN??" OMG I LOVE IT!!!!! THAT'S AMAZING!!!! =) WELL PROBABLY I WILL CALL YOU TO MAKE A REAL VIDEO OF MY PROJECT! :)
Never had a Neo Geo but I did play some Metal Slug games in arcade and a lot of SNK fighters on PS1 and PS2. Maybe it was a great console and deserves this but I wouldn't know. You made a great video though.
@edgeCrusher1999 I can't give you a Blu-ray for this particular project, but I can make the original video available for download if you wish. Let me know.
@PaulOkon1981 For this particular project, I had decided not to include the Neo Geo Pocket as I wanted to focus more on the AES/CD/MVS and the games that made up the console. I'll have to do a film for the Neo Geo Pocket all by itself....
A lot of these games like the KOF Series, Fatal Fury Series, Art of Fighting Series, Samurai Showdown Series & Metal Slug Series etc. you can get the archive collections edition at Gamestop Stores or order it at Amazon.com ,but that's if you have a Playstation 2 system which is $100 cheap . Why buy a new Neo Geo System to play old games.
I do wish that King of Fighters 2002 Unlimited Match was for Playstation Network..... I'm crossing my fingers.
@Fordlumb123 Why drive an old car? Why listen to Record Albums? Hell, why even read books? Is it because we feel the need to have some sort of nostalgia? Or is it to feel something else? The sense of passion, pedigree, and soul that runs through a simple obsolete gaming system is no different than picking up an old acoustic guitar with such rich heritage and yet still provides such beautiful music. This feeling, you can't get from a compilation pack. There is no logic to this illogical inferno.
2 assholes don't have NeoGeo or never have played One, mine is in excellent condition and my 25 games are incredible replayable not like DoA's , tekken's and other things xD
I can believe someone not liking the Neo ... just cant believing someone not liking this video ... some people are full of hate. Your work rocks!! Trully awesome video! Just one thing. I think it would be better if you put the most well known game from each series like SS2 from the SS series, AOF2 from the AOF series, (slug was spot on though!) and so on instead of putting the first instalment. But again this is just my personal taste... the video again blows my mind!! Keep it up!
Your videos remind me of Cinema Tech back on G4 in the day and I mean that with EXTREME praise. These overproduced"positive connotation" console videos rock!!!
@Pcenginefx Cinema-tech Nocturnal Missions was an explicit ass freaken show, it shows a bunch of porno games. I reccomend just watching normal Cinema-tech.
Wow. Classiest hardware porn ever shot. Amazing job, man. A proper tribute to the greatness of the platform!

@DTJBsd Sorry, I had to pick and choose which game footage to feature and Garou was cut during editing.

Epic.
There are no fans like Neo Geo fans. Where can I buy the Blu-ray?
edgeCrusher1999 1 year ago
@edgeCrusher1999 I can't give you a Blu-ray for this particular project, but I can make the original video available for download if you wish. Let me know.
Pcenginefx 1 year ago
@Pcenginefx The original video would be great! Now to see if I can buy that Black Blade somewhere. Very epic.

The Neo Geo is indeed a great console for any time. This console has a unique catalog of games with unique personalities!!

I don't suppose the neo geo pocket would have come up well on the camera, but aside from that cool stuff, man!
PaulOkon1981 1 year ago

@Fordlumb123 Same here im waiting for KOF 02 UM too be released in PS3 network
cavezon16 1 year ago
@Fordlumb123 Why drive an old car? Why listen to Record Albums? Hell, why even read books? Is it because we feel the need to have some sort of nostalgia? Or is it to feel something else? The sense of passion, pedigree, and soul that runs through a simple obsolete gaming system is no different than picking up an old acoustic guitar with such rich heritage and yet still provides such beautiful music. This feeling, you can't get from a compilation pack. There is no logic to this illogical inferno.

Pretty cool. Two minutes of credits is a bit much, however.

2 assholes don't have NeoGeo or never have played One, mine is in excellent condition and my 25 games are incredible replayable not like DoA's , tekken's and other things xD

@Sniperpain26 Now it's 3 assholes :) Can't believe anyone wouldn't like the Neo Geo!
Pcenginefx 1 year ago
@Pcenginefx
Keep it up!

@RawbThatPunk I can only wish... unfortunately consoles only come out every 5+ years so I'd be out of work between projects!

Your videos remind me of Cinema Tech back on G4 in the day and I mean that with EXTREME praise. These overproduced"positive connotation" console videos rock!!!
jtmcbath 1 year ago
@jtmcbath I'll have to watch Cinema Tech - sounds like fun!
Pcenginefx 1 year ago
@Pcenginefx Cinema-tech Nocturnal Missions was an explicit ass freaken show, it shows a bunch of porno games. I reccomend just watching normal Cinema-tech.
