  • Rudess my Master! Wow incredible so epic!

  • hahaha it's funny how mike portnoy's "muted" cowbell is heard...supposele only the band members can hear it on their in-ear monitors...are they using on-stage monitors? i did check that...

  • who are these people of the 5 dislikes? I dislike your dislikes!

  • Masters Of Music :)

  • this song is more than 20 minutes long, and it is one of the songs, that I cant turn off in the middle.. It happened to me not only once that I missed a bus because of this :D

  • what a tune.............

  • Rudess having alot of fun playing that continuum, well you can't blame him when it costs 5,000 bucks

  • what happen to sacrificed sons

  • Comment removed

  • There is a half-sized version of the Continuum - for a 'mere' $3.400... Alternatively you can try Morphwiz on an iPad for less than 10 bucks. :)

  • dude... i wanted to get one of those Continuum fingerboards, but i realized that i would need like $5000 to get one! Only DT!

  • Jordan Rudess is the best keyboardist in the world by me :O

  • @graemecrackers wheres sacrificed sons

  • they should do this with an orchestra, that is if the haven't already

  • @ustingnumber9 They did ;)

  • @LesVideosDeJet i mean live, if they did, can i find it anywhere here?

    i bet it was EPIC

  • @ustingnumber9 Yeah, in the Score DVD for their 20th annyversary, they also played Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence, Sacrificed Sons, Vacant, The Answer Lies Within and Metropolis pt1. :)

  • @LesVideosDeJet sweet :)

thanks for the info and for keeping up with me haha

    DT ftw!

  • This intro, is fucking awesome. Reminds me of Pink Floyd. I wish this intro never stops!!!

  • q paso con sacrificed sons???

  • If I could have 1 day to hang out with Jordan Rudess................. Good god

  • VIVA CHILE!

  • LaBrie is a creepy dude

  • Do you think he knew the pirate was standing behind him the whole time?

  • I touched Heaven when Mike hit drums.

  • I can play LaBrie's part in the intro *holds finger down*

  • LaBrie: "What the hell is this man doing? Oh Jordan, I would like to sing tonight, let me give you a hand to finish this."

  • best song i've ever heard on my fucking life

  • 0:55 he is not playing a real keyboard whats that thing?

  • @Brandon18valensi its a continuum keyboard

  • 3 people prefer Justin Bieber instead of real music

  • @preppychrisbou

    original

  • @preppychrisbou make that four

  • Labrie is looking very curious if you ask me...

  • Pink Floyd influence? Nahhhh....

  • HIIIIIIIIIIIIII

  • CFCFCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC

  • this song created god

  • zxxxxxxxxxxxxxxccccccccccnmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

  • It takes so much skill to play a continuum, so its only rudess who can play a haken and a keyboard simultaneously. This band truly is god.

  • this song is better than sex :P

  • jordan always looks like a sex addict when he does awsome solos!!>:) HAHA!!

  • I stopped the critiques when I figured Whom I am.

    This is absolutely beautiful!

    I need that FingerBoard too!

    Damn... this is sooo cool!

  • Wow, i thought that was slide guitar on the album...

  • Shine on...

  • Yeah but I saw in a documentary that he is not actually doing that much there. Actually there's no LaBrie in the Score gig! But he's great though!

  • Thumbs Up to LaBrie !!! :)

I bet is much more talented than he shows up :)

  • i was there.... and i cannot have words to explain how we feel there =D.... the chorus at the start... was an amazing moment

  • I like it, but I clicked it to see Portnoy, not constant keyboard

  • is there any body being a hero and hanging shit on this song cos its impossible to say any of this is shit its pure MASTERPIECE

  • flawless everything is perfect best sounds I've ever heard

  • Jesus Christ !!! I live for this shit !!!

  • 8 minutos de introduccion!!

    que pedazo de cancion!!

  • Simply from that first upward slide on the fingerboard, you can tell immediately that shit's gonna be good.

  • galing>>>>>>>>>>>>

  • Relaxed:D

  • could there be a more beautiful song intro?

im 21 and im not ashamed to say it makes me cry when i hear it

the continuas organ sound makes it just perfect

  • Thats a really long setlist :O

  • Not only is this song amazing instrumentally, but the lyrics are absolutely phenomenal. The whole concept behind Octavarium just makes you wonder: Are these people celestial beings from another galaxy who have come to earth to show us what music and lyric really are?

  • Jordan Rudess always has an orgasm while using continuum XD

  • @themrmustazz who wouldnt? XD

  • @MattiaFrasca he does more XD

  • @themrmustazz and I fully understand him, I would have too ;p

  • There is no word on earth that can express how perfect and amazing Dream Theater is! They are, without a doubt, the best band ever and anyway they are so underrated!

    Dream Theater Forever From Austria!!!

  • I heard Mikes secret cowbell

  • @espon6 Thats because the sound from the board is pumped straight into the camera and the audience cant hear it, but the band members can and which inturn means we hear it

  • That metronome totally blew off the feeling. Its okay though, awesome performance of a masterpiece.

  • OMFG! THIS IS THE BEST MASTERPIECE SONG OF ALL TIME FOR DREAM THEATER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    DREAM THEATER FOREVER!! <3 \m/ ^________^ \m/

Forever live John Petrucci/Rudess/LaBrie & John myung!!

    =D!

  • @Akinito10 wut about Portnoy?

  • @ABRfan1231 o_O!

    i forget it sorry :$

  • My god !! BEST SONG OF ALL TIME .. Thumbs Up if you think that too

  • God this song is just amazing...so many different style perfectly blended

  • Rudess' solo always blows my mind, especially when the whole band joins in and he plays the Medicate theme on the stell guitar.

  • @CLOCKTHULHU Woops, meant "Steel"

  • It's Art

  • fucking intro :p

  • I'm not even gay and I find jordan Rudess incredibly attractive

  • This blew me away when I saw them in Connecticut during this tour. I actually went to a clinic and met/talked/watched John Petrucci before the show.

  • I want that fingerboard. So much.

  • Jordan FTW!

  • this is hackwork, for musical illiterates

  • LaBrie did a mistake at 6:35.. LOL.. the next note should still be at F, but he mistakenly did B-flat.. lol,xD

  • @UnforgivingCritic That wasn't a mistake, that just was a change... Nobody mistakes a note like that...

  • God the piezo pickups in JP's guitar are sick.

  • cowbell cowbell!

  • what kind of board is he using for the second part of the intro, the one under his continuum

  • its a lap steel slide guitar

  • Comment removed

  • wtf is doing james there?

  • He's triggering the chords for Jordan, so he can do the lap steel part and use both hands on the continuum, otherwise would be impossible to play the lap steel part live.

  • @mr4y

and why he's not doing that on score?

  • Actually he does. He just doesn't do it directly(you can see it). If you see the score video of octavarium, you'll notice that after jordan takes his hand out of the oasys, the chords keep playing. On other camera angle, you can see a guy standing next to jordan modular synth. That's LaBrie. On some backstage video, he shows the midi keyboard he uses for that purpose.

  • but it might be a dream come true if LaBrie would play In The Name of God guitar unison. LOL,xD

  • No, he's not at all. It's simply the effect - it sustains the notes for a much, much longer period of time. No one else is playing a keyboard except Jordan. It's simply the series of effects he has programmed in at this point in time. He plays his keyboard, continuum and slide all on his own.

  • @liquifex Of course he is. If it was all programmed all times, Jordan would have to do the intro 100% accurate to the studio version, which never happens in any octavarium intro he does live. Also, there's a video of backstage where LaBrie shows the particular keyboard I mentioned before, just search for it.

  • petrucci rulz

  • Dream Theater's best song (in my opinion)!

  • how much a fingerboard like that costs...?

  • I believe the full size one (the one Jordan has) costs roughly $5300.

  • Jordan has the half size board. The full size one is the same width as a normal piano keybed (1,40 m or something close)

  • what is that instrument thing that hes like touching at the beginning? :P

    thats right im a noob.

  • its called a fingerboard.

    its freakin sweet!

  • It's called the Haken Continuum.

  • Labrie is creepin on jordan during the first solo hahaha

  • asshole

  • Is the guy playing the chords JLB?

  • yes

  • exelente!

  • me da una ladilla este video :S

    parece chill out

  • This song is Fucking perfect

  • wana see this live too !

  • shit I wish that DT played that setlist when I saw them...that's like 2 hours of playtime...probably more xD

but shat...I wanna see octavarium live

  • awesome sound. awesome instrument. (Its an electric fingerboard, kinda like a keyboard but your able to control 3 different parameters with only one finger. look it up. haken continuum fingerboard. only ~ 3000 bucks^^)

  • what's the second instrument, that the bald guy is playing, what's it called

  • the second instrument, not the electric fingerboard, is a lap steel guitar. very nice instrument too, not as hi-tech.

  • :D Labrie has to hold the Key for Jordan during his experimental solo...

  • the continuum sounds like a fretless electric guitar

  • hey with this keyboard u dont need lead guitar!

  • Someone says Shine On You Crazy Diamond?

  • a bit, hey but very cool!

  • that's an obvious reference

  • @Prowger the whole text of the song octavarium consists of quotes and references.

check out the wikipedia article, it's all explained there

  • actually its only the 'full circle' and 'razors edge' parts that are made up of quotes etc

  • The most crowded DT show ever: 25000 souls! Here in Chile!

    Aguante Dream Theater carajo!

  • That continuum fingerboard is too cool. Love this song.

  • this intro makes me so fuckin chill u_u

    0:30: a magic-epic beginning

  • a long intro for a long song, but this song is very nice

    DREAM THEATER ROCK !!!

  • Wow didn't play this song in denver but it doesn't matter, cuz they played stuff off of awake

  • Reminds me of "Respect The Wind" from Eddie Van Halen from the movie "Twister". Amazing. This is musician's music.....

  • Impresionante, que vuelva Dream Theater a chile rapido !!

  • what an incredible intro, rudess is amazing on that continuum fingeroard, how much control does it take to play one of those?

  • Man, I wish they played this long here in Montreal, that was a fucking insane set list.

  • 0:30 (when starts the magic)

  • for a second thought at 4:44..

LaBrie is gonna smudge some booger on Jordan's octet oscillator.

  • Sounds so much like Shine on you crazy diamond in the beginning... another long fantastic epic song! Dream Theater's awesome. 5/5

  • this is the first time i've seen the OASYS without the turntable stand.

  • because this is one of the first concerts with it.... thats in 2005...

  • i like to see James play the lap steel part.

  • I like it, Dream Theaters new keyboardist; James LaBrie!

  • oh? LOL!!!

Dream Theater's new keyboardist: Jordan Rudess.

  • it was a joke man!! ofcourse I know that Jordan is the keyboardist! :p

  • Lol, Rudess is having so much fun with the Continuum fingerboard at the beginning ;P

  • you are really stupid..

    "metronome??"

that is Mike setting the rhythm.

These are 5 of the few genious of music in the world..

    Their music makes me chill..

  • it's a cowbell. mike is trying to create the correct syncronization for intro.

  • yes

  • He has balls. Throwing in those dissonants... genius!

  • It's cool when Labrie is taking over the backround keyboard while Jordan takes the lap-steel-guitar thing:P

    DT rocks!

  • I thought that somebody behind is playing on a guitar lol. WTF is this instrument?

  • That's a Continuum.

  • It's a XYZ midi interface with no frets, so you can make it glide, and what you hear is V-synth XT. And it doesn't really sound like a guitar, which is good, because it's not.

    Pretty sick stuff...

  • It's a very distorted lead sound, so everybody thinks it's a guitar.

  • but jordan's studio version of the continuum is now with black fret markings, just like ebony on a piano.

  • All i can say is Jordan is such a genius musician look at him !!!

  • amzing !!!!!!
