  • Hi Davie, great looking buzzer, it does look slightly different with varnish than with bug bond, but the effect is still brilliant, please could you tell me how long the varnish takes to dry between coats as it looks quite a thick coat, you should ignore any critics out there, In my opinion I would say without doubt (and not to give you a big head) but your tying is perfection. Regards Alan

  • Hi Alan,

I'm glad you liked the buzzer, I normally leave them overnight before I varnish them again you could do it quicker with some of the ladies varnishes out there like one I use to used a lot called Rimmel 60 seconds..

    All the best Davie

  • sorry ignore last quaestion, ive seen your answer re bugbond, nice fly again.

  • Davie i see you use varnish for the coat, why not use the bugbond lite?

  • For the varnish what do u use

  • Hi dreamcaster4639,

I like Veniards varnish which I pour into an old nail varnish bottle, as you see I like to apply it with a brush.. Another I like is a ladies nail varnish called Rimmel 60 seconds..

    All the best Davie

  • this is one of the best imitations of a buzzer Ive seen ,,,the buds are what sets it apart i think as it just gives that authenticity and catching touch ,,nothing else but magnificent is the words i would use.

  • almost 200

  • Hi Dave

Nice buzzer thanks for sharing i will be tying some up for my box.

    Regards

    Richie

  • Why have people disliked this? I think it looks great!

  • Hi McBeever2k9,

I'm not sure why but I did have another like this tyed with another material but I got lots of complaints that they couldn't find it and if they did it was expensive so I retied it using lite-brite which is easier to find and much the same and as good..

    All the best Davie

  • Hi Mr McPhail,

I have watched most likely all of your videos, each fly was tied so perfectly and extremly neat. i can tie neat flys but they cannot come close to this, do you use some form of magnifing glass? i have seen some nice glasses made for fly tying and i was thinking about getting them. if you use this or any other magnifier, can you tell me.

    God bless,Ak

  • Hi AK (flytyerman),

I just recently got glasses but they make very little difference to my tying as I can tye just as well without, I do use a 22 watt day-lite lamp with a white background which does make a huge differance to anyone that is tying flies.

    All the best Davie

  • Hi Everyone,

I have been asked a few times why I never used bug-bond on this fly. The reason is that the uv resin sometimes reacts with the pens I've been using and until I find out why this is happening I have went back to using varnish on flies that I use pens with to colour areas and as well I have been asked many times to put this pattern back on..

    All the best Davie

  • Great looking buzzer Davie, thank's for showing.Steve.

  • Davie,

Have you tried a very light coat of varnish first to lock in the ink? I found that when I was tying with pens, if I used a first coat of superglue the pens ran but when using Varnish it didn't. I used maybelline ladies varnish as it is very light and runny.

The Bug Bond may work in the same way as the Superglue. The only thing I would worry about is if the undercoat takes away the shine and effect of the Bug Bond?

    Just a Thought...

    Best Regards,

    ~David

  • Hi David,

I appreciate that you are trying to help but if I find a fault like I did then I would rather go back to what is well tried and tested with no problems, I'm happy just to use the bug-bond on plain flies with no issues..

    All the best Davie

  • Davie,

No problem, It was just a thought...

    Best Regards,

    ~David

  • Super fly

  • Great buzzer Davie, though I must admit the translucent effect is much better with your Bug Bond version.
