  • If only we could have a recording of him using today's technology.

  • @lorileeky That would be great. If he was alive today, he would've been impressed by how much sound technology has improved over the last 90 years or so.

  • De profundis.

  • the best tenor ever, with absolute beauty, strength of voice, and remarkable control of dynamics. My favorite tenor aside pavarotti and corelli and del monaco

  • Wonderful clip, but Caruso is according to all the books and things the greatest Tenor of all time... and my Great Uncle!!! ^_^

  • truely the best, with beauty, strength of voice and remarkable control of dynamics. My favorite tenor next to pavarotti and del monaco

  • This is cool, phone camera, covers "1940"s style" report of 1921 incident. An authentically sad day in opera.

  • BUT TV DIDN'T EXIST IN THAT TIME!

  • film existed and it was this film that was edited into a newsreel in the 1940s and was used as a retrospective "Greatest Headlines of the Century" featurette.

  • Thanks for the information.

  • They showed newsreels in the theaters in those days.

  • It was an era of class culture and appreciation.. At least we have an outlet here to learn enjoy and appreciate all things about fine music and singing Nice video. enjoyed very much!

  • ok!ok!ok! thanks for the comment and thanks for watching.

  • great! thanks!

  • this is a real gem of history thank you so much for putting this out here. It shows to a young singer, how much the great singers of the past were loved.

  • Thank you for your comments. If you love Caruso, listen also to Mario del Monaco, Jan Peerce, Mario Lanza, Giacomo Lauri-Volpi, Miguel Fleta, Beniamino Gigli, Richard Tauber, etc etc. For sopranos, may I recommend Helen Traubel, Leontine Price, Licia Albanese, Anna Moffo, etc etc. I love recommending these great singers - thanks for watching.

  • He died at age 47?? Very young, very sad.

  • Yes, he was born Feb 25 1873 (some sources say 1874), and died August 2nd, 1921.

  • WOW! where did you get this?

  • it was bundled with an old copy of the film "The Young Caruso" which starred the singing voice of Mario del Monaco (one of my three favourite tenors...the other two are Caruso and Jan Peerce). Thanks for watching!
