My PSP 1001 was completely submerged in water. Luckily I was able to completely dry it out. I can access the web, download games, and play them using the memory stick duo. However, I can’t play any UMDs on it. Is this because the UMD drive is fried? If I replace the UMD drive will it still be able to play UMD?
My UMD cover pops open. Do you think i could fix it by doing a little trick to it or do you think i got to buy a new cover? Also the it doesn't want to read the UMD disc sometimes so i'm think to replace the UMD drive and see if that helps out.
My UMD drive is not working so I just ordered one from eBay but since my PSP is used, I've decided to buy more parts for it because my used PSP looks reallly ugly and I want to replace some items to make it look almost new.
I saw from this vid that you can take the LCD screen off easily. Can I replace it with a new one when I have to put back together as you've shown with your old one, or is there more to it than that? That goes for the L and R buttons too.
@TKGB2006 Go to my channel and there is a two part video of me doing a complete case replacement on a fat and slim. That is what you want to do, right? Yes, the screen is this easy to replace. ;)
@hydrolisk1792 Thanks but apparently turns out that it wasn't broken, there was just a bit of dust in it. But yeah, thanks for the post. I finally got my UMD drive and it took me 4 hours to do the whole deal. No to mention, I wish you told us about the small screws in the UMD drive that are a pain to get off. I ended up breaking the plastic that was holding it together.
Regardless, it was worth it. My PSP now works great.
@hydrolisk1792 yeah well unfortunately i took this UMD drive out of a PSP that wouldn't power up and i believe the UMD might have been the reason that one didn't work in the first place so unfortunately I am going to have to do this again. which also means i am going to have to buy and wait for another UMD drive to come from wherever i order it from either deal extreeme or ebay,
@daddytech I'm sorry to hear that. Um, You have a choice, if you get it from DX, it will be cheeper on you but you are going to wait 2 weeks to a month to get it. Ebay, you'll get it faster, but it will be more expensive. I hope that I helped.
thanks dude. once im old enough to use Ebay (and by that time, the Atari 2600 will have been completely forgotten, and the PSP will be considered a classic handheld console) im gonna buy myself a new UMD drive lol
Great video. Worked perfectly for me. The PSP is reading the UMD now!
But I have no video. I took it back apart and it looks like the little tab that holds the smaller ribbon from the screen is gone. I'm assuming that this is the reason for no video. Would you suggest soldiering this point if nothing else works?
@Gavintech I've had that little tab missing for about a year and a half. I just shove it in there and the bracket that holds the screen does the rest.
I was going to do this, but it seems as though you need to take out almost everything. not that I haven't done that before, but I already backed up all my games before the drive broke (yay hacking!) and honestly the only reason I would replace it is that OCD feeling you get when you know there's something wrong with your psp.
Another thank you from another one you helped with this. Surely would've taken me much longer than it already did. I broke a small plastic part when removing the UMD Door but well, summed up i have a working PSP again and i surely can find a cheap replacement for that part.
Oh, maybe, if you ever do that again, or still have the sourcefile, that in HD may be worth a reupload, just so you can see the screwes and smallparts better. :)
Yeah, look for something called PSPTube on google or here on youtube lto tell you how. Personally, I haven't done the mod yet, but we will work on it.
Try this, open your UMD door like you are putting in a game, and grab a Q-tip with some MINOR Alcahol on it (not saturated, but wet it than squeeze it in a paper towel) than rub it on the eye. After, grab another Q-tip ,or use the other side of the same one, than dry the eye off. Try that, than if it don't work, replace the UMD drive.
If you don't get the "red light" which is the laser, Replace your UMD drive because your Laser burnt out from most likely static electricity. Follow this video to know how. . .
Can we trade brains for a day smart boy i need some of you knowledge. I love you GIVE ME YOUR BRAINS I AQUIRE IT FOR WHAT IM ABOUT TO DO AT THE ''COUGH'' SHOP
Try to take a pair of needle nose pliers and bend it back to where it is supposed to be. If this does not help, than open your PSP and take out the metal behind the screen and try to do a repair on the latch mecinism it self. Yeah, that latch is attached to the bracket behind the screen.

@valdesadam Your door is warped. You might just be able to get a UMD door and that might help. Also you need to clean the eye to the drive.
