=o I've played this with Mr. Hazo too!! It was WVU Honor Band 2008. At the first break of the first rehearsal he decided we were good enough to throw it out there and give it a shot. We loveddd it. I played bass clari. It was one of the toughest parts I've ever seen. We never get anything fun. Haha. Did you play any of his other pieces with him?
this is definitely the best rendition of this song that i have heard. the percussion, brass, sax and oboe solos heard clearly...thanx for putting it up...my skool played this song in 08 for our pops concert.its on the top of my list as one of the best songs ive ever played...i remember the feeling i got wen we played from 1:06 to 1:57 just chills
my school will play this in the spring concert this year. We are SUCK. lest people love this song. No one have the mood to play this piece just some people included myself have the mood to pllay but we need trainings...a lot of fit for those who are not. Your school performence is the BEST. I love the wind parts and decosendoes . I play the flute 2.
We're working this piece up for our Spring Concert this year as of right now. I play Bass Clarinet :] This sounds amazing, by the way. What an honor to have him conduct you!
this is the second greastest song ever. im playing first clarinet and i lovelovelove this song, but not as much as i love tempered steel. OMFG that is the single greastest windensemble piece ever written, even though i had to play third on that song. but check that song out its sooo good, and then third is fortress by frank ticheli.
holy shit dude! (pardon me) but when we played this this was the demo we got to listen to get the feel. It sounded professional, you guys are amazing.
Nice recording, especially the snare drum at 2:28. This piece makes a good driving song when you're on the freeway/highway, but if only it went longer...
If you end up making a slideshow, use clips/stills from Top Gear or grab a few mates and take pictures of you driving.
Yeah, well once again it's an excellent recording. The visual quality wasn't great so I'm just curious because I couldn't tell... I think I saw a string bass in the front, but did you have any tubas? I didn't see them but once again it was pretty blurry!
Hah, well! No matter. I couldn't pick out the tuba part because frankly I can't remember what it sounds like, but I'm sure they played it beautifully!
Great job...we played this for our UIL concert this year and it was the best piece i have played in life i think even i still love the great locomotive chase. That was awesome that you had Hazo but i think having Mr. Perkins from the phantom regiment was just as cool
We just finished playing this for our UIL concert piece down here in Texas...we didn't have Hazo conduct us but we Mr. Perkins who is just as great(Phantom Regiment Director or Assistant one of the two) it was really exciting because as band from a small town we usually play level 3 or 4 music and this year we split into a even smaller band for varsity and played level 5 music which is what Ride and Omagma Mysterium (nice piece just super long and as a clarinet player you get no rests in there)
I played this in my wind ensemble last year. We had an amazing time...I was horn 4, actually. And it was nice that even the horn 4 part was pretty good! I had a lot of fun with my part around the saxophone solo...even though it was just moving chords. You're so lucky that you had Hazo conduct you!
URGH JEALOUSNESS! I love Hazo's music. We marched Ride my freshman year of marching band, and now playing it my senior year for symphonic contest. Rush is fun and hard. Love Ride the most I'd have to say though! (I go to Castle High from Indiana.)
You guys did an amazing job on this! I'm so jealous that you got to work with Hazo. I can't believe how loud your picc player is, though. Don't get me wrong, the picc part was amazing (better that I do it).
Yep that was my friend Danna! I dunno how loud she was really, I mean... she's very good, she has a very piercing instrument (I mean HER piccolo specifically cuts really well) and obviously she was sitting at the front of the ensemble, which was closest to the microphone. Thanks for the compliments!!
Hazo is my absolutely favorite composer. He conducted the District 2 Virginia Beach District Band and we played this. We also played Fantasy on a Japanese Folk Song. It was absolutely amazing. This song is secons only to Fantasy on a Japanes Folk song on my list. For Random info, i played Contra Alto Clarinet in the Band, first Chair.
I just played this in the WVU Honor band under Mr. Hazo's direction and it was an amazing experience. I now have found a new love of symphonic bands and wind ensembles. Just for facts, I played glockenspiel.
My friends were in WVU Honor band from the UHS Wind Ensemble!! We played this once in class just for fun, unfortunately I couldn't come to the concert, I think it would have been amazing to see Mr. Hazo conducting it.
mr hazo was my elementary band director, now we're playing this song and im on alto 1 and ive never heard or played a harder solo. it's difficult now but it seems so easy and smooth
this is the same person as mexicanbizzoy i guess i was on my friends name. im competing for the solo with another member but as for practicing its hard. and haha i dont think i had a japanese lunch lady
Yes, he's great- and hysterical. The counter melody in the second measure of the alto sax solo, I think the picc. and 2nd alto and clarinets have it... he was like "That needs to come out! It's like... a streaker. It needs to BE THERE and then it needs to be gone!"

@sheenalover4eva but tempered steel is way to easy for an wind ensemble and even for an honors band

Yeah, just did, that's a great recording! Are you talking about the one from Foothill or the other one?
zjoke 3 years ago
Well, the Foothill one was a bit rusty since it was the beginning of the year, but the other one from Hawaii is the more improved one, haha. :)

We do, right next to the two string basses on the far right. and i think it's blurry because of the zoom feature.

Who is your band director, is it Matt Spatz?
fusionbeatz 3 years ago
He's the Freshman band director. Mindy Scheierman is upperclassman bands and wind ensemble director.

Alright, was wondering as he's an instructor of mine and we're performing ride for our drum corps, if you ever hear anything about that
