Good information, I had no idea why cheap ammo was so crappy. I may end up doing this. We shoot up cases of CCI ammo. The stuff is pretty good, but it does cost a lot more. I can get the kids to provide the cheap labor and sort them out.

@kennnmoran1 the 5,s and 3,s would group the same. but the 5,s would not group in the same group as the 3,s. the group would be smaller but the point of impact for each number would be slightly different.

@kennnmoran1 you would sort them by rim thiskness,then shoot the same number rim thickness with the same number rim thickness. like if you had 100 5,s and 100 3,s. you would shoot the 5,s with the 5,s and so on.

Rename the video something like "use this tool to help identify the best of your bulk ammo"

"convert" and "transmogrify" both suggest that there was some sort of modification taking place. you are simply filtering out the losers.

"how to Rambanginize .22 ammo" and just keep everybody guessing :) If you used cantampanake or Kriblimote I'm sure intelligent viewers would still see the purpose of the video and not bitch about it like this useless tool.

He has applied a form of quality control that the cheaper ammunition is lacking. He is able to identify and remove the rounds that would likely be flyers, thus making the overall consistancy of the ammunition more reliable, like more expensive ammo.

Would a cheap dial caliper or 0-1 micrometer do the same thing? I think the 0-6" caliper might be faster. Very interesting indeed. Nifty little tool though!

thats a good idea, have to resight for each grade but if you get a few boxes of fodder and your socpe working right it seems like a easy to do and great help. seeing em go all over is is bummer, even when its fodder

Expensive target ammo should all be roughly the same. so lets say they measure up as a number 3

But the cheap box has 4 different rim thicknesses ( number 3 - 4 - 6 and 7)

By rights, you should get good accuracy if you shoot all the number 3's together and the shoot another separate group with the number 4's instead of shooting a group with a whole lot of different rim thicknesses.

AnYwHoO... I understand what you're trying to get across, it's easier for a reloader to understand since consistency is what makes ammo and guns accurate. I don't quite have the time to sort 22s since my 45s take up most of my time. My suggestion would be keep the ones that group best with your rifle/pistol and blast the rest for fun.
