Smyth just killed the Bucks of Oranmore ('killed' in a good way)! Lunasa has stellar musicians all around, but Sean Smyth's playing interludes are heaven-like- the technique! the silky smoothness!
I don't think I've ever heard any fiddle player play Paddy Ryan's Dream as well as Sean Smyth, his playing is just perfect for it (well probably perfect for a lot of tunes!). Bucks sounds like it's in A allright, Paddy Ryan's is in Am
Well, I'm a bit clueless about music theory but I'd say this tune is played in A major!? To play this tune on a whistle using the same fingering I'd use on a D whistle, I need to play it on my A whistle. Interestingly, there's a G# in A major, but this would be the equivalent to C# in D major... and I just noticed that Bucks of Oranmore doesn't have any C# (when played in D). Interesting.
I love Lúnasa, but I think they just didn't do enough justice to the last tune. That needed to be one for the whole group, tearin the arse off it! Not a lot of feelin if ye ask me... (yes, i feel like a traitior critisising the greats).. :(
1st = Chapel bells ! Haha..Kevin remembers the old B'ham sets alright! I'm sure Long Acre (long, long time ago) used to play this (&2nd = Paddy Ryan's)...thanks for posting
Incredible.

Anyhow, the real tune here isn't Bucks of Oranmore, it's Paddy Ryan's Dream, a kickass reel, one of my all time favorite that gives me shivers.

@willy0275 Actually there are three tunes. A jig and two reels the last of which is the Bucks of Oranmore.

I got signatures on 6 CDs and a book! They seemed both happy and annoyed to have to sign that much;)
