V Interesting. Say what you like about the old 'slam door' trains, but they loaded far far and away quicker than the modern trains, on account of having so many doors on each side. Station 'dwell' times were, therefore, far less than these (so-called) modern improvements, therefore the journey was quicker. When I was at school it took 12 mins to get into Maidstone on an old slam-door train, it now takes 17mins. Progress? I think not.

Modern Trains: No buffet car, no luggage area. Poor, V poor

I miss our old railway with all my heart and i wish it could come back to how it was.

British Rail was something to be proud of...even when stifled of money by government after government we could still beat the rest of the world with our trains.

now the system is bled dry every single minute by private cowboy operators with no interest in railway operations at all.
