@WaltonSauce A few weeks ago a woman told me that years ago she had cancer. She had had it for three years and just married, no kids, and was making all this trouble for him. So she decided one night that the next day, she would take pills to kill herself. She had a dream where she was running from demons up a hill and came to the Virgin Mary in a house. When she woke up, and got a check up, she had no cancer. Her doctor said to himself, My goodness, it's a miracle. How's that for an example?
First of all, your not the only one in this discussion studying biology at uni (although I hardly see how that is relevant), secondly, why not? Describe the condition in more detail please.
We have multiple cases of cancer going into natural remissions, it happens a lot. Also, for every example of your God healing someone we have examples of Allah, Krishna and even Eir. Each religion has it's own stories about miracles, everyone else is waiting for the evidence...
@WaltonSauce you don't need to study biology to know that a woman who had cancer for years and was going to die and was preparing a handful of pills to commit suicide would not have had a sudden cancer remission. Much less the doctor saying it's a miracle if it was just remission. You can believe whatever you want, but you'd have to believe the opposite of what obviously happened. She told it to me in a clinic some months ago.
@WaltonSauce I don't think accounts of different religions (such as? no examples) and aliens are the same thing as someone telling you to your face how they were going to die from TERMINAL cancer. It did not go into remission because 1) She had it for years and was going to die 2) the doctor's comment.
Feel free to believe whatever you want, but I know that if you were honest with yourself you'd stop arguing basic logic.
" I don't think accounts of different religions (for propaganda purposes) and aliens are the same thing as someone telling you to your face how they were going to die from TERMINAL cancer. It did not go into remission because 1) She had it for years and was going to die 2) the doctor's comment.
How long the condition has been apparent makes no difference, nor does the doctors opinion. We can't effectively tell if or when cancer will go into remission.
Kabane is quite intelligent however I feel like his argument is far more driven from a debate skill rather than actual knowledge, I feel like he did a lawyer thing and studied his argument specifically with the hopes of shutting Matt down, which by the way, he didn't.
Yet another bright young American who's had his brain scrambled by the likes of William Lane Craig et al. We are watching our vision as a people being taken over by dizzy hustlers incapable of plotting any course for the better of all. They hate America and American life and they are well on their way to stifling it for good. Don't look to your consensus reality to make your projections, it's being corrupted by these filth, and their tragic followers like this kid. Charlatans have the power now.
kabane is a prodigy child unbelievably smart for someone his age but as im an atheist i do get on board with what matt says but the manner in which kabane put forth his argument was incredible
@wadeanddave Yes, it was impressive in terms of information, there was no contest in the debate in terms of logical argument, but Matt was in a debate, Kabane was simply using logic and reason, you can not win a debate on logic and reason if the other side does not return in kind. The ironic part is the theist was acting far more scientific than the atheist, and being far more polite and respectful.
Oh dear. N.T. Wright is NOT an historian, although bowl-head has it correct that one of the Jesus Seminar guys (forget which one) wrote a book with him. Write is Bishop of Durham in the Church of England. He's an NT scholar, NOT an historian. Amazing how apologists confuse these terms.
Anyone else notice how Kabane always tried to tell Matt things with words twisted around and bringing up insignificant words trying to coerce the conversations with his fast talk?
what an idiot. provide an example of people saying they wouldnt except this as evidence.....Thats not how it works you idiot, they make excerpts that say what they DO except. otherwise the list would be freaking huge.
Kabane's assertion that multiple unverifiable textual accounts reinforce one another is absurd. There are lots of stories about Leprechauns in the world.
I've listened to this a couple times now, and I just can't get over how much Tommy (Kabane) sounds like a telemarketer reading from a flow-chart script. He has an answer for everything, but his answers are all based on what he expects to hear, not what has actually been said.
Im convinced kabane is a parrot nothing more. His arguments might sway the people who want to believe. But holds no water with those who just want truth.
Kabane's tactic is clearly just doing lots of research beforehand and when the opponent can't cite someone off the top of their head he thinks he's won the argument.
And he clearly doesn't even understand what Matt is talking about half the time. Either that or he's just on purpose twisting Matt's words and putting forward straw man after straw man. I mean come on.. "Any textual evidence is not evidence enough that it occurred." "So you're saying you reject all evidence??" :l
Also, is anyone keeping count of the number of strawmen Kabane puts up? Matt says one thing and Kabane completely twists it around and responds to something Matt didn't say in the first place.
Common-Sense of Debating: If you have to change the context of an argument in order to rebut it, then you don't have an argument to make.
Kabane's being intellectually dishonest. Matt is being completely rational and plain-spoken in his arguments. Kabane's doing the ever-popular tap-dance that Christians love to do. 2000+ year-old claims of resurrections written in a book that has been translated and altered numerous times across the centuries isn't an outrageous claim, justifying something more than just "a book says it happened" as evidence? Come on.
Poor debating skills by Kabane. Typical apologist in the making - hears what he wants to hear, and jumps around drawing woefully inept conclusions from the mess of information his struggling brain clearly cannot handle.
He should really take a long hard look at what should (and does) constitute reasonable standards of evidence. A clearer view of reality would surely follow.
The Principle of Uniformity of Nature and Historical-Critical Method is the most common methods used to study the Bible. Kabane had read Willy Craig's books and allowed himself to be intellectually inbread. He should throw in some Ehrman, Callahan, or anyone else with another opinion. To quote WLC, the laughing stock of the philosophical community, as if he were a historian is a grave mistake. Pretty much shot himself in the foot here.

Not that good, Cancer can go into natural remission.

@WaltonSauce Umm as someone who is currently studying biology at a university, along with the doctor's comment, will tell you, no it can't like this

Once again, how do you know it was not a natural remission?
How do you know it was your God?
Like I said before, we have accounts of this in every religion and even some with aliens too. Can't all be right.

Also, how do you know all the others were for propaganda purposes?
So far the only difference between your account and all others is what caused the remission.
You don't say how you know this is what caused it, you just assert it.
