The Howard Govt rode on the back of the first resource boom while spending nothing on Schools,Hospitals or much else for that matter.
As a result,the Labor Govt has been doing it's best to bring those things back to a decent standard.
Not always successful with it's implementation but the policy is right.
Labor successfully guided Australia through the Global Financial Crisis with flying colours and we now have a lower unemployment rate than anybody.

@ajuk1 In Australia, the major party that follows what would normally be called more liberal leaning views is actually the Labor Party (Similarly, the Labour Party in UK). The major party that follows conservative ideology is the Liberal Party. It is a bit confusing to those outside of the country at first and definitely misleading, but that's just how the two major parties have named themselves.
