...and finding guys for open shots. He also had the quickness and agility of a perimeter player and could generate steals for easy fast breaks like a guard. His combination of steals and blocks during his prime years are unmatched by any other player in history.

The NBA needs a new wave of excellent centers, the position is just so weak nowadays. Bogut is one of the best defensive centers now? The perpetually injured Bynum is up there as well... Only Dwight stands out, and it's depressing.

Once they put Otis Thorpe along side Hakeem the two just devoured NBA front lines together like Olajuwon and Ralph Sampson did in Hakeem's first 3 seasons. It'd be really interesting to see just how great they'd be if Sampson stayed remotely healthy after his 4th season.

Otis Thorpe is one of the most underrated power forwards/players of that generation as well.

@thestradiosmiles Things were really just so effortless to (H)akeem to be THAT good without picking up a basketball until his late teens. As well as the fake NBA insiders insist he was actually only 6'10" and not 7'0" like he's listed.

Besides David Robinson you'll be hard pressed to EVER find a center that agile that can get THAT many steals to compliment the other obvious center stats like pts, rebs, and blks.

@ARMquaman Exactly. To further elaborate on my comment: he was a brilliant center who played both ends of the floor equally. He had everything the prototypical center was supposed to have; excellent offensive and defensive post game, the ability to alter shots at the rim with his blocking ability, a nose for rebounds, and footwork to the nth degree. In addition to these things, he was excellent at passing not just out of the post but also on the perimeter, handling double and triple teams...
