Okay, you are so not well educated on who are the Miao. Miao is what the Chinese called us. The Hmong people make up the second largest Miao branch in China. Hmong are Chinese nationals. So, it's wrong calling myself American?
hmong moving to other countries and losing there rich culture and tradtion is a great lost isnt it. Any ethnic group in a different country like america will surely become americanized and lose many traditions. Some people just consider themselves americans bc they dont know who they are anymore.
It is important that we need to know our roots and where we came from. But the reality is we need to survive no matter where we are- China, Laos, Thailand, United States, and elsewhere. A basic of life is more important such as- a job, foods, clothes, family members in times of need, and a place call home come first; religion, culture, and everything else are secondary.
As Hmong we are and forever will be Hmong... so learn to love one another with respect and honor.

i agree with u but that quote is easier sad than done. ironic that it actually came from a hmong. it is good though--if only we would follow our own advice....
This is awesome! This is a very beautiful culture but most of the Miao people in America doesn't even know what Drum Dance is. A common mistake that most Miao/Hmong people here in America make is that they think their ancestors always lived in Southeast Asia so they perform Thai dances instead.
yes u r right. we have forgotten our roots and it is sad, but thanks to people like u we can re-educate our young. thanks for uploading. It is wonderful- appreicate it much...
that's not true. Most Hmong adolescent know that their ancestors came from China and not just SEA because its the most common theory of where the Hmong people originated from. Besides not all Hmong in SEA immigrated from China.
when i say roots, i don't mean only knowning where they came from but who they are. A lot of youh these days have no idea on who they are and how to appreciate it. There is more to roots then history. if u understand..
of course I understand that our roots goes further along than what history has written down but that doesn't mean that our roots determine who we are. We as individuals can choose to embrace our ethnicity or simply discard it and now a days many youth are choosing to be more Americanize than traditional.
Ethnicity is self-asserted while being American is being recognized as a Nationality. You cannot discard your ethnicity and culture. Doing so, it's like being today Black and White with no culture and no knowledge of who they are. Culture determine our identity and who we are. Being Americanize does not mean you're going to be accepted into mainstream society. An Americanized Asian will always be an Asian in the eyes of others.
Many Native American, Slaves such as the Native American are constantly trying to find their roots and why it is that you Hmong feel the need to discard and embrace whatever. I find it stupid to consume the American Ideology of Assimilation. Assimilation Policy failed to the Natives. People constantly search for their root and where they're from. Be proud we still have our root and a strong cultural heritage. be proud our ancestors sacrificed everything to retain our identity as Hmong.
i can understand where u are coming from, but remember ur roots r one factor of who u r. whelter u choose to acknowledge it or not. Also just because r youths r choosing to be Americanize and discarding doese not and wil not change the fact that they r hmong. Personally i think it is all a misunderstanding of our youth today on what it is to be hmong.

This isn't as bad as most Han choreography of minority ddance. It would be better without the flashing lights and big screen in back.

Drum dance is very common among all the Hmong in China. We left many of our great TXUJ CI behind when we fled to Southeast Asia.
